i actually LOVE how her vocals aren’t perfect. it makes it feel more real and powerful to me. her songs are HARD to sing live and to sing them with just a piano and her raw voice is incredible. she’s so talented

what i love about this is it's COMPLETELY live... she has no in-ears so no backing track, metronome, pitches etc but she still puts on an amazing performance!! she's amazing

She is in key for the majority of the song. She's pitchy in the chorus because it's live and the vocals are relatively un-altered. And that is to be expected when singing live as there are plenty of factors that can incorporate shaky vocals. It's not painful to listen too, that's a bit dramatic.

The times where she is a little flat are excusable for the absolute raw emotion in her singing. I feel like it balances it out
Everyone commenting she's "off" or "flat" - you're used to singers with backing tracks cutting through making sure the false notes can't be heard. I guarantee you if you heard the real singing of those performances they would be miles worse than this. She's not flat, she's singing live and she's in control of the whole thing.This is a powerhouse of a performance.

Very well put. Does she have pitchy moments? Sure. But her voice is real, and her tone is absolutely beautiful, with crystal clear high notes. And her control over dynamics was great. This was a very exposed performance for a singer - just her and the piano, and then acappella at the end - and I thought she nailed it.
And to address the other comment, it's not fair nor realistic to compare a delicate, lyrical voice like hers with a big, powerful voice like Adele's. That's like comparing apples to lychees.
Or in the world of opera, that's like comparing a lyric coloratura to a Wagnerian (hoch dramatischer) soprano; they're two completely different vocal types.

I Will always love you by Whitney Houston that’s a hard song to sing ..yes it has ups and downs but I don’t think it’s hard to sing it..she went for a stripped version -touching and emotional and she didn’t plan to sound like in the original version..she nailed it! I felt like she was singing it to me you can feel what she’s singing about
damn i like the change on that last chorus. the 1st chorus sounded like slow realization and acknowledgment of what happened, 2nd chorus felt like anger and pain at what happened, and last chorus just sounded so defeated and regretful. so much vulnerability there, it sounds like a girl who reluctantly accepted a sad fate. she told a story through this performance infused with lots of emotion. idc if the singing isn't perfect, i appreciate she's even singing this song completely live and playing the piano by herself.
Olivia conveys so much emotion in every song. I love seeing artists perform with no gimmicks. Just a beautiful girl and her piano. Well done!

You can hear her voice strain in certain parts, but that's nothing that can't be fixed with time and practice! Such a vocally challenging song and what an amazing performance by Ms. Rodrigo!! So emotionally raw.

I was so surprised to see she had no earpiece, she did so well!!! What I really don´t understand though is people saying her "vocals have improved so much" like huh? She has always been this good live, maybe her confidence grew and her vocal techniques got better but she´s always been an incredible live performer.

She would struggle with breath control during the last album. It was noticeable on the faster songs. It wasn’t the vocal itself so much as the strain. You can tell she’s put in the WORK.
Same with Taylor. Debut Taylor had a weak voice for live performance as well. Most of your faves did.

She seemed to struggle with her breath control in this one, and didn't quite hit the notes right in the chorus, it was a bit jarring when in sync with the piano. And you don't really need a earpiece if you're the one maintaining the rhythm yourself - I've done that for most of my performances.

voice cracks can be a vocal choice as often as an error - cracks convey emotion in a song. A lot of her vocal cracks she hits again and again in performances, because she is specifically aiming for them.

I antisapated her first song would be 'Vampire', but when the camera pulled in to reveal only Olivia, a piano and no in-ears, I thought holy shit ! The high notes ! This is going to be a really, really hard song to pull off without the added decibel level from her band. So I just took a big breath and ... Oh my god : Her sweet and tender voice, able piano skills, beautiful face and doe eyes, elegant gown, hair and minimal jewelry, and of course the ground fog effect ... She fucking crushed it. I'm reading vocal cracking here and not in tune there and sometimes flat in the comments - Olivia uses vocal fry and inflection to tell her stories with feelings, passion and emotion, so I don't hear these as flaws or mistakes. This is my favorite rendition of this song so far. I was hoping to see Dan off-stage looking proud as he did at her first SNL appearance - Well done, Olivia ...
