The intensive hiking has made the dislocation noticeable to a 10 at times. I’m VERY glad I’m doing these training hikes, to get stuff like this figured out and fixed before the main effort! Huzzah!!

  • @Lib3x

This is half right, tape BEFORE you start walking. The "hot spot" are usually on the heel and the side of your feet and toes, buy "kinesiology tape", and don't tape in small patches, like in the video, try tape it in a way that you prevent other potential hotspots. Don't forget to cut away/round of the corners of the tape, this way they won't flake off as easily.
If you have already started to develop blisters like in the video, buy compeed, and tape over that. Also cut the crease formed on the tape (as seen on the video), round the new corners and fold it to the contours of your feet. If a cone starts to take shape in the fold, cut that as well. Basically, remove all creases and cones. They will eventually start rubbing and become a new hotspot for blisters.
The big key to prevent blisters is to buy a walking boot that are 1 to 1,5 size bigger than what you usually buy. Use a breathable, thin sock as your undersock, and a marinowool sock. As they too are breathable and lead out moisture. The friction will now be between the Socks and not the boot material and won't rub as much.
Try and invest in genuin leather boots and put a few hours of walking in them BEFORE you go on the actual hike. (About 8 hours in total), the leather will form to your feet and will make the hike a lot more comfortable and also help prevent the blisters. You don't need Gore-Tex and other "fanzy" technologies. Wax the boots and it will be both breathable and waterproof.
Also, ALWAYS bring 2 extra pairs of under socks. Take a break as soon as you feel irritation on your feet and tape up.
    Happy hiking 🥾

Would you say too tight of shoes is as dangerous for blisters as too loose of shoes? I’ve been walking 5-7 miles a night every night for the past few weeks, and I’ve had a couple minor blisters here and there. I’m wondering if I should buy a pair of shoes in the next size up for when I walk, but I’m worried they’ll be too loose.

    • @Lib3x
      @Lib3x 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@Catsaregoodandyourenot it depends. If you walk in such a way that your feet starts to swell, then I'd go half a size to a full size up. Enough to fit the swelling and a medium thick sock. It should feel just like it would if you bought the right size boot. The way you lace the boot/shoe can also have a huge impact in how it behaves.
I have mine set up in a way that instead of the laces going left to right in a normal zig zag way, mine are laced so that the laces cross in the middle and goes back in the hole above where it started, hope that makes sense. This allows me to not only control pressure, it allows me to adjust where I want the pressure. There are tons of different ways to lace, so play around and see what feels best for you. You want to tie the shoe in a way that your feet does not move around inside, yet not too hard that you cut off circulation.
New shoes should not be awkward to walk in, they should be comfortable from the start then they will be perfect as they form to your shape.
If you're just walking on regular terrain like in a forest or on grass, maybe you don't need a boot, but a trail shoe, in that case I can highly recommend a shoe with a wider toe box. Altra makes some nice ones and has some cushioning. Or if you want to try barefoot/minimalistic ones (next to no cushioning), then Vivo Barefoot has some nice trail shoes as well.
Hope this answer your questions ☺️

it doesn’t look like you got an answer, so I’ll offer one for you: you can wear a solar panel on your backpack, And charge your gadgets as you go like that or charge a bigger battery from which you can charge your gadgets at night. You can use a fire charger, so that you’re charging your gadgets as you cook or enjoy campfire, and they were camp stoves that have built in converters in them, Which store energy and have a built-in USB port. There are also chargers you can get for the times when you can camp next to a stream, which charge as the water passing through it moves a little turbine.
You can also get a little wind charger, that you can just set up on a little mini tripod, that charges when the wind blows.
there’s also the option of using gadgets with a dynamo, but that’s really an awful lot of work and not very practical.

Don't ever drain a blister. The body creates that fluid to protect the skin healing underneath and so it doesn't hurt.

I find double socks also really helpful. Because I have small feet, I use a very thin seamless kid’s Smartwool as the base layer and then just a hiking sock as the outer layer. Keeps my feet dry, doesn’t bind. No blisters.

Never drain a blister! They’re there for a reason. It’s to protect the damaged skin beneath it from more harm or infection. Draining could lead to more issues.

Hey guys! I'm a mountain guide from the UK, here's a tip I learned from my favourite expedition leader years ago. Double up your socks. Use thinner 'liner socks' underneath a thicker pair of socks. Always go for quality. I recommend the brand bridgedale . This reduces friction between the socks and your feet, and instead, the friction will be between the two pairs of socks.
    Happy trail guys! ☺️❤️

I’ve been forced by Circumstances to have to walk more 🚶‍♀️to the local shops in my area. It’s Great Exercise for me and has also helped to reduce Anxiety and Insomnia.
