Aaron Devone Glenn is an American professional football coach and former cornerback who is the head coach for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions from 2021 to 2024, the defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints from 2016 to 2020, and as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns from 2014 to 2015.
Glenn played 15 seasons in the NFL, where he played for the New York Jets, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints during his playing time. Glenn was selected to the Pro Bowl three times (1997, 1998, 2002) and is regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in NFL history. He played college football for Texas A&M University and he was inducted into the Texas A&M Sports Hall of Fame in the year 2000.
Aaron Glenn was born on July 16, 1972, in Humble, Texas. He grew up in the close-knit community of Bordersville, where his athletic prowess was evident from an early age. He played youth football in the Humble Area Football League. His younger brother Jason Glenn, played in the NFL from 2001 to 2006. Glenn has been married to his college sweetheart Devaney Glenn. Together, they have three children, two daughters and a son namely: Aaron II, Tristen, and Rheagan. They met while both were students at Texas A&M University, where Aaron was building his reputation as a standout cornerback and Devaney won his heart with her personality and intellect. They married in 1994, during Aaron's second season with the New York Jets. Devaney Glenn works as a fashion stylist at The Archives and Showroom. Additionally, she holds a part-time position as an administrative assistant at Solely Fit. Devaney is known for her grace, tenacity, and dedication to her family. She has played a significant role in Aaron's success, both on and off the field. She has been a steady force, helping their family stay grounded through all the changes. Aaron’s daughter, Tristen, pursued studies in fashion apparel design at LSU and merchandise product development at FIDM. Additionally, she has gained valuable experience through roles such as administrative assistant, design assistant intern, and retail sales associate at various companies. On the other hand, Rheagan Glenn completed her high school at Ridge Point High School. She is presently majoring in real estate at San Diego State University.
Glenn attended Nimitz High School in Houston, Texas, where he was a four-year letterman for the Nimitz Cougars football team. He also lettered in basketball and track. After high school, he first attended Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, before transferring to Texas A&M University. At Nimitz High School, Glenn was a standout athlete. As a senior, he posted over 1,000 rushing yards, over 200 receiving yards, and 7 interceptions. He also lettered in basketball and track.
Glenn initially signed his letter of intent to play college football for the Purdue Boilermakers in 1990. He first attended Navarro College, in Corsicana, Texas, where as a sophomore, he won all-conference and junior college All-America honors, after posting two interceptions, 60 tackles, and 15 pass deflections. Glenn then transferred to Texas A&M University, where he played for the Texas A&M Aggies football team in 1992 and 1993. As a junior in 1992, he was the Southwest Conference (SWC) Newcomer of the Year and a first-team All-Southwest Conference selection. As a senior in 1993, he registered 27 tackles, 13 passes defensed and led the nation with a 19.2 yard punt return average, while receiving first-team All SWC and a consensus first-team All-American honors. In 2000, he was inducted into the Texas A&M Sports Hall of Fame.
The New York Jets selected Glenn 12th overall in the first round of the 1994 NFL draft. He played his first eight seasons in the NFL with the Jets, from 1994 to 2001. In 1996, Glenn set the team record for longest interception return with a 100-yard touchdown against the Miami Dolphins. In 2001, he started 12 games, missing 3 contests with a sprained knee. He had 39 tackles and 12 pass deflections which is second on the team.
The Houston Texans selected Glenn through the 2002 NFL expansion draft. He started 16 games at left cornerback, registering 75 tackles, 5 interceptions, 16 passes defensed and one sack. He and teammate Gary Walker became the first Texans player to reach the NFL Pro Bowl in 2002.
