Nikon Z 8 Cinematic Short Film | Skate Love

- We shot a mini documentary of an LA roller skater in partnership with @nikonusa using the Nikon Z 8 and I'm in awe of seeing how this camera performed video wise. So we know Nikon exceeds in the photo category but it was imperative for me to test out what it could do video wise since it has some amazing video specs such as 8k NRaw, Pro-Res in camera, great autofocus and so on. My goal was to show you all what you could do with this camera in a real life situation and since I love telling stories as a DP, I figured why not create a documentary showing what you can create using the Nikon Z 8. If you all have any questions for me let me know. First things that got my attention were the colors, post workflow and how clean the image was coming straight out the camera!

Edit: Now that I’m looking it up, this camera looks like the Nikon equivalent of an a7s III. Okay Nikon on the come up!!! I’ve never heard of a Z 8 til today. Everyone I know is still on the FX30 craze 😁 Thank you for showing other awesome options outside of the usual Sony/Canon/RED brands.
No problem! And yes it’s def competitive to some of the Sonys and really could stack up against them! Nikon did their big one with this!

Great Cinematography, story telling 🔥🔥🔥 During the pandemic, Rollerskating got me through a divorce. In the rollerskate community you'll find amazing stories on why they became skaters. At this point in my life, it's a lifestyle and business. I love what I do as far as capturing the essence of the roller skate community here in atlanta, ga.

I love your content Brittany. I would love to hear your perspective of the Nikon Z8 compared to your Sony FX3 and the Blackmagic pocket camera. I was interested in purchasing my next camera and would love to hear your thoughts. I know a camera is a part of the process of making content along with lighting, audio and set design, but you might have insights that I was thinking of.
I think the Nikon is a great contender if you want a hybrid camera! The fx3 is not a hybrid camera so that’s a huge difference. You’re looking at a dedicated “cinema camera” vs a hybrid camera. The bmpcc is my fav sensor but it’s not as great in low light as the fx3. They all have pros and cons so it really depends on what’s more important to you when it comes to the features. If low light and having a small camera is more important then get the fx3. If you don’t care about low light becsuse you will be using lighting and you want a beautify sensor get the bmpcc. If you want a hybrid camera with nice neutral tones get the Nikon
Really beautiful work! Did you shoot in regular ProRes? I love how the motion cadence on the Z8 is, the motion looks more filmic like Alexa and RED compared to Sony FX3.
I didn’t because I didn’t have a card big enough for the pro res! But I will be testing the pro res soon!

I would say start with stories around you. Everyone has a story to tell. Start with family and friends and grow the way you tell these stories!
