    You missed one vital piece: shortly before E3 2019, Vergeben leaked an insane amount of stuff. Almost all of it was at E3, except for a new Wario Ware and Metroid 5. Because literally everything else was true, I awaited those two games knowing they were real. This year we got both.

    • @TheRealFolkBlues

    Now that Sakamoto is finally giving the fans what they want with Metroid Dread perhaps this fanbase can stop spreading those false rumors that he supposedly said he hated the Prime series and was abusive to his workers. The poor guy has been slandered for over a decade. I think it's about time he gets the apology he deserves.

    • @TheRealFolkBlues
      @TheRealFolkBlues  3 ปีที่แล้ว +152

      Hopefully, Dread proves itself well enough to salvage the public opinion on Sakamoto. Not to say he's infallible, but the guy really got turned into the series' scapegoat for the better part of a decade after Other M.

    • @ldragon2515

      @@TheRealFolkBlues The dude made one controversial game and the fanbase acts as if he can never make a good game ever again. And I know they claim OM destroyed Samus's character, but in the end Samus Returns returned her to her former badass glory, and Dread seems to keep with that. He clearly saw people didn't like his interpretation and pulled back on it and reverted back to what worked before.

      It’s funny because i started playing metroid after reading an interview Sakamoto gave around the time Samus returns was released. I can tell from that, the man love he’s job even if the fans don’t always love him.

    The year is 2045, metroid 6 is announced directly into our neuron connections. Being no longer able to grasp physical objects, I command my sentient grapple AI with Bluetooth Wi-fi Intel Inside to fetch me my telephone booth/microwave machine:

    • @TheRealFolkBlues
      @TheRealFolkBlues  3 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      The pizza arrives, and yet I find something is missing.
      On the pie, I can see every topping, perfectly intact; perfectly positioned.

    Actually Samus Retuns foreshadowed dread, on the chozo memory’s you unlock a secret 11th if you get 100% and it is called 2/d. Aside from this there are 10 memorys, a / can be used to mean divide, if you divide 10 by 2 you get 5 and a d, so it will be 5d, 5 dread and the 2D can mean its a 2D Metroid game, and the chozo that killed the others is in the dread trailer to add fuelnto the fire.

    By now, Metroid Dread is out, and is one of the biggest Metroid releases ever.
    I hope people still remain curious about the early DS iterations. Especially hearing how the game originally looked, that the story concepts were not fully ironed out by that point, and the struggles with trying to implement an enemy like the E.M.M.I. which was apparently the reason the initial versions were scrapped, it'd be up there with those early versions of Yoshi's Island and StarFox 2 as among Nintendo's most interesting prototype material.

    Metroid Dread is the closest thing we'll ever have in modern times to a Myth actually being real. A community knowing something existed but also doubting its existence, then, finally, losing their minds because they knew they weren't crazy. From "it's gonna happen," to "nah, that ship has sailed," to "no way, it was real." This game has eluded us for 16 years, it has driven people mad and even subconsciously becoming some sort of conspiracy theory. As it turns out, this trailer has shown us that there really are aliens in Area 51, if you know what I mean.

    This was an absolutely incredible production!! It was really amazing to see just how deep the rabbit hole went. I always knew about Dread, but never to this degree. Looking back at all the mentions of it, now living in a time where it fully exists, is so surreal.
    Just to throw my hat in the ring, I feel like Sakamoto would've hoped for Dread to be released within the timeframe of Other M's release. I know I'm reaching here, but hear me out. Other M served as a story to bridge the gap between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, and in doing so, it would turn eyes towards Fusion's story. By doing this, Fusion and the events both before and after it would be on fans' minds, helping to build hype for Dread's then hypothetical release. Moreover, it would also prevent a dry spell for all types of Metroid fans. For those wanting a story-focused game, they get Other M; for those wanting a title more focused on traditional gameplay, they could have Dread. Of course, as we know, this scenario never happened, but the rest is now history.
    Anyways, my rambling aside, this video was of such high quality!! Your thorough research combined with top notch editing, voiceover, and overall pacing made this a wild ride. I cannot wait to see what else you have in store~!!

    Quite possible he could be misremembering as it was so long ago but it could be possibly mean there was a build being shown at some point

    This is incredible, holy hell. Nice work putting this all together! Even me being the avid Metroid fan I am missed so many details you've covered. I'm always happy to learn more about my favorite video game series. 💜

    As someone who found out about these rumors all that time ago, it’s still crazy to see this game become a reality. I also kinda wish Nintendo would let us see the rumored behind closed doors prototype. I really want to see what Dread looked like all the way back then.

    Watching this after beating Dread the other night is a wild ride. For further details I didn't get into the Metroid series until Samus Returns came out. I got it for christmas 2017 but never got around to playing it until summer 2018 because I wanted to play the original Metroid 2 first.
    Despite this I always felt fond of the series even if my only exposure to it prior to that was playing as Samus in the various Smash games. After getting into the series though in the last 4 years I quickly learned about Dread. I was intrigued by the elusive game and wondered if it would ever become real. Needless to say I lost my shit when it was announced. Great game.
    Oh hey what's that anime you showed footage of? Not the Touhou stuff but that other thing?

      It's really interesting to hear stories of people finding this video or getting into the series after Dread's release. Wasn't somethin' I even thought about back when I first made this video.
      But to answer your question, I mainly used footage of R.O.D.: The TV and Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture through the video, with a bit of Bleach towards the end.

    Hey!! I did a playthrough of Prime 3 recently and I just wanted to share that there's this thing that you can scan in the pirate homeworks where the metroids are experimented on, and it says 'Project "Dread" is nearing completion.'

    Wait, 5th 2D entry in the Metroid series? How are you counting these? Metroid, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Samus Returns, and now Dread. I count 7.

    • @PianistTanooki
      @PianistTanooki 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid: Samus Returns are remakes of Metroid 1 and 2, respectively. Metroid Dread is the 5th 2D entry that isn’t a remake and is a continuation of the story beyond Metroid Fusion (Metroid 4).

    Great video! We're just as excited for Dread and hope it delivers! Just hope Mercurysteam can balance the counter hit... It was too OP in Return of Samus.
