In this session, Pea & I work over some canter poles! Though the aim was to help improve the canter getting her thinking ahead it was actually her canter transition that improved the most and I'm over the moon with her!

You have a notably relaxed seat on her despite the erratic transitions needing attention. Noticed it from the onset when you had first ride. She is very striking and will do well with your guidance!

Her transitions improve each ride. It turns out she was always just guided forward using a 'click' via voice...I have also found she finds it quite stressful so we are working on desensitising her on the ground at the moment which will hopefully help. :)

Just lovely seeing the work you put into her. Not riches or expensive horses. You are a joy to watch. Well done 😊

Haha any horse is expensive to me. She's worth her weight in gold!

Your girl is improving so much already. Head carriage is better, be even better when you get her neck muscles up on her crest. Looking forward to seeing more. 😊

Very interesting, I had a Thoroughbred of the Track years ago..I hope she had her Back checked before you got her….sadly they have a tendency for kissing spine😢and I would look at her teeth just to make sure she doesn’t have any Problems there…please have the saddle checked if she is sore already😮
I would restart her, with nine years she doesn’t know any basic skills about trotting forward downward wich is essential to keep her Back and topline healthy…you could try lunge work with some tie down rains for a few times a week so she can build up muscles on her Back and learns to carry her head lower…she seems a great Horse that deserves a second chance and a new career…❤❤❤Thank you for giving her that chance…❤

She was restarted after her let-down time before I got her. In our future videos, you will see she works lovely long and low without being tied down. :)
She's had her back and teeth checked. She doesn't have a sore back, she has a condition that causes her to get bumps on her body and she had one on her back so I was unable to put a saddle on her due to that... she will always have regular physio and saddle checks.

Maybe the long reining and lungeing will help anyway with starting to get her to work in a better outline and building different muscles?

She is very hollow in the back and has no concept of using her topline and softening through the bit. Lots of groundwork at walk and trot. She was starting to carry herself better at the walk. Let her learn to stretch her head and neck down at the trot and ride her into her outside rein. Lots of gentle half halts to get her to understand moving down onto the bit through her topline.

I think what you are doing is brilliant. Maybe pole work for her just too soon. If you both find it hard maybe step back. She has very clearly some horrible remnants from her past. And good for you for taking her on, a credit to your skills and personally, I thank you.
What about the old fashioned hackamore? I know this theory has moved on but clearly her mouth manifests some kind of evil at this moment for her.
May I thank you for your kindness and your skills. These “off the course” horses -some but not all- truly demonstrate just how much trauma that time was for them.
I am sure all of your peace and love will have an effect. Well I hope so. They all gave do much natural ability to offer once they find the key to their mental cage. Best of luck.

We don't find it hard as in unable to do it, just that it gets us both thinking...in a good way. She made so much progress this day!
A hackamore would be no good as I am aiming to produce her for eventing which it is not allowed in the dressage phase...she has however improved since I changed her bit which was after this session. I am hoping to have a bit fitter out soon.
