Sony a6300 Low Light | Experimental Video | Amsterdam

- I shot an experimental cinematic video in Amsterdam with my Sony a6300 in low light. During the night we walked through the canals and alleyways of Amsterdam. And we played around at Dam Square, where there was a funfair. Great lightning for shooting a low light video!
I shot all the footage on the Sony Alpha 6300 with picture profile Slog-2. The ISO between 800 and 10.000. I used a Sony E 50mm F1.8 lens and also a Zhiyun Crane Gimbal for smooth and cinematic video shots.

man. this video is epic, cool and ageless... I am starting now to experiment with lowlight filming with my a6300, but how have you dealt with the noise from the high iso? shooting slog 2 as well with low aperture.

Amazing video! I've been trying to experiment with slog 2 but even with over exposing I get a good amount of noise. Did you go through this as well? Or did you apply any type of noise reduction?

Excellent video. Could you give some tips on how to get the right exposure since that I find one of the hardest things to get right when filming.
Yeah, finding the right exposure is pretty hard indeed. What I often do is look at the brightest parts of the shot you wanna take and make sure that those parts are not burned. So set the exposure right under those bright parts burning. Also you can try shooting in S-LOG, it allows you to just have the same amount of information in the highlights, midtones and shadows. great video this truelly inspired me but had some questions because i shoot with the same camera........why did you shoot this video in HD and not 4k? and how did you had no noise in the footage while shooting in slog 2?
Thank you! 😄 No 4k because then you can’t shoot 60fps for slow motion. And I think I shot with a relatively high ISO and used a LUT to correct the slog.
@@JoesFlow but a high iso gives noise in the footage or not? Or does it dissapear with f1.8? Did you used a paid LUT or did you donwloaded it somewhere?
Yes, in general the higher the ISO the more noise. But I believe I did some test shots in the dark on different levels of ISO and then corrected them afterwards. And I believe the ones with ISO of 10k were better then the ones with a lower ISO, strangely enough haha. I used free LUTs. Just a standard one that I found online to correct slog.
This is some of the best footage I've seen. Would you recommend the a6300 over the gh4 or g80? I've heard it tends to overheat.

First of all that was amazing piece, but can u tell me about this music you used. Can I use commercial music that is listed in the youtube music policies library or could this video get silenced/banned by the owner as well?
Thanks mate! Yes, in the TH-cam music policies library you can check per song what happens if you use the track. For this track I could not monetize my video. Monetization would be enabled for the owner of the track.
amazing work! Subbed right away!! How do you achieve this clean visual? I mean it looks like theres almost no noise. I thought its hard to keep the noise low when you use flat profile like slog especially when it paired up with high ISO. Whats the secret????
Thanks very much man! I don’t know. The a6300 is quite good with low light situations. And of course you also need to do some color correcting and grading in post :)

Yes, kind of I guess. I worked with LUTs designed for slog. So those really help to cancel out noise I believe :)

Is it a flat footage or color graded footage? If it is color graded then do explain the steps taken to do it
Color graded. I first used a LUT to correct the S-log. Then used a second LUT to give it a certain style 😄

nice man...i have the same camera and lens and for some reason my slog2 footage is still too noisy. Do you overexpose by 2 stops or just keep it exposed normally?
Thanks mate! I overexposed just a little bit. But the shots that I took in 100fps were quite noisy too. Wasn’t too happy about them. But yeah, recorded in a lot of very low light conditions. I find that shooting in slog is not always ideal. I guess it’s best for high light conditions.
I agree... I think the SLOG2 800 ISO minimum is too high. One day i'll try it out in good lighting to see if there's any difference. For now PP8/Cine4 is working for me. Thanks for the response!

i just got the 6300 with 50F1.8 to start with, gonna get the kitlens tho for wider shots and a Ronin S for stabilization, so far testing with hangheld... its amazing camera and lens combo

bro the video is lit!! but one question.. shooting in slog 2 in low light..they said noise is more pronounce in slog 2 compare shooting in cine4.. any idea about this??
He shot in 4k, which in Sony's case is a 6k image down sampled to 4k. He didnt use that high of an iso for most shots, 1.8 lens. A6300 is just beasty for low light video.
@@masononemine1702 yup i know about sony a6300 shoot in 6k and downsizing it to 4k, and also i assume that he shot this with fast lens"lower fstops" .. also i keep in mind that a6300 is a ok shooting in low light.. what i am trying to figure out is what video profile he use.. cause i heard using slogs in low light bring more noise since it raises the native iso..
