He’s a devil. He has eternity. There are schemes Asmodeus started all the way back before mortals even were created. They don’t cope to get by a situation they must accept; they cope so they can start over, adapt, revision, a plan that can work. In this, the mortal player is a check on ambition, but once they’re gone, no such check would exist. It may take hundreds or thousands of years, but eventually, Gale’s ambition will become… too much.
I like how at the end, there is absolutely no reason for him to move the "camera" around and follow it, I like to believe he's doing it just to be dramatic
On which difficulty? In my current playthrough (Balanced) I surrounded him with 3 runepowder barrels (same strength as the bomb each) and 8 smokepowder barrels and he managed to survive the blast with about 1/3 health intact. Granted, I finished him off in the same turn, but the bastard still survived the initial blast.
@@aristoeldesarmado I took down 3 pillars and had just one barely breathing cambion remaining. The rest of the turn was more fun through -- toss prone Raph all over the room by Karlach throwing Nyrulna 😂
How very ironic that Raphael calls Gale's plan "following Karsus folly" when Raphael's own Plan was even more doomed. It was quickly pointed out his attempt would have worked "until he got Asmodeus attention". There is a reason his father newer used the crown. Ironically enough this Ending might be one of the better ones for him.
@@Draegon-tk9dj Sadly not ingame. It was pointed out mostly by DnD Lore Guys. Asmodeus control in his plane is pretty much absolute, there are some good explanations out there that would be too long for the TH-cam comment section but long story short "You don't try to fuck with Asmodeus in his own home".
If Raphael was weak enough to get slapped by my noob ass, he wouldn't have had a chance against Asmodeus with the crown and he won't have a chance against the pantheon lol
I mean the crown was originally in the possession of Mephistopheles. If one of the actual arch devils can’t take Asmodeus with the crown, there’s no way that Raphael stands a chance.
Apparently none of you have played the game. The point of the Crown wasn't its raw power, it was the potential for ascension. Raphael was already partially ascended from consuming so many souls; similar to Gale (a much weaker mage, but who held the Orb) the Crown had the potential to turn him into a full god. And a full god Raphael definitely has the potential to take over the hells, considering several of its archdukes are far weaker than gods. Zariel is already much weaker than Raphael just by comparing their canonical stat blocks, even on Balanced difficulty.
@@Lardo137 And you don’t know nothing about the lore. He has zero chance to take over the Hells. Not only is Asmodeus a Greater God, you really think Mephistopheles would be so fucking stupid that he would use the “take over the hells” button if he could?
@@Lardo137 Yeah, is he far stronger than Mephistopheles? Seemingly not. Would he be far stronger than Asmodeus even if he ascended? I kinda doubt it. Also it didn't feel to me, from Raphael's cutscene like he had used it to ascend. It seemed more like a ring-of-power type thing for him. So I stand by putting a big fat "X to doubt" on his plans
@@df1ned I did some digging and actually, turns out Asmodeus has an canonical stat block! From the Chains of Asmodeus official module. And Raphael is weaker...but not by much. Raphael actually hits harder with his own Fireball nuke (26d6 vs Asmodeus' 20d6), Asmodeus just has way more innate abilities, slightly more HP, and the ability to call other subordinate devils (including other archdevils) for aid. (Raphael is also basically just as strong as his father, also in the same book. They share an ability to ignore resistances/immunities to fire, interestingly enough.) The point is, they're close ENOUGH in strength to where plotting and armies and silver bullets and strategy are going to matter far more than "I can punch 10% harder than you can." The real reason why Asmodeus is unbeatable isn't because he hits the hardest but because he's the leader of all the Hells and had ages to establish and reinforce his power base. Which is exactly what the Crown of Karsus would hypothetically be for.
They missed a HUGE opportunity here. Gale should have said " I'm a god. How can you kill a god? What a grand and intoxicating innocence. How could you be so naive?" to Raphael.
Gale is Barely a god. Like… he’s probably as Strong as Zariel when she was an Angel. Gale doesn’t have enough followers or power, Gale is just a walking opportunity for someone like Sazz Tam or Accererack.
@@TrenchCoatDingo Yeah that's not how it works. In order for a god to benefit they need worship and that has to be active and conscious. As a result Gale really does need to be careful with the fights he picks at this stage of his divinity; flipping off Raph is easy because despite the way the game presents him he is a bitch ass cambion, a half breed that holds his position more because he's clever and (almost assuredly) because his daddy is mephisto. Zariel on the other hand... Him picking a fight with her is very likely to get his ass killed.
If Gale is powered by ambition the Raphael is single handled fueling him. I don’t see Raphael ever truly winning unless Gale’s ambitions drive him to war with the heavens
Raphael is a great character, but listening to him bang on and on at the end made me glad that in my playthrough I refused to sign any contracts, then just went to his house and kicked his ass.
I always forget you don't have to kill Raphael. I take such personal pleasure in putting him in his place that I don't think I've ever seen an ending where he lives on my playthroughs. It's one of the few things in act 3 I'm still excited to do. "Can't wait to get to the House of Hope, oh boy!"
let's be real for a minute, anything regarding raphael has been undeniably invested, expanded upon, and written with the utmost care. the theme and song while we fight him, his multiple appearences, hope and korila, the items in the house of hope make so much sense if we take into account his power, the level of danger and the big scale events that are going on at the same time with the mc. i freaking love this character
Raphael must be huffing that stuff, why is he pretending this was part of the plan all along😭😭 “Ah yes, you basically called me a bitch & sent me home and THAT was plan from the start!”

Alternativ Gale/Gandalf inspired: Do not take me fir a conjourer of cheap tricks i comand powers of wich you can only dream of little demon *snaps his fingers and turns Raphael into a sheep*
Technically the deal still exists. It was simply adjusted to be a pickup instead of a delivery. Raphael has been invited directly to go get it. Gale can't help any outside interference that might bring.
I'm pretty sure those deals are only as good as the devil that makes them. That is to say...they need to hold power over the individual in question. As Asmodeus is barely considered on part with the gods in most cases, it is highly doubtful that Raphael could enforce the contract. Also, there's some question to whether the mortal soul of a person survives ascension. So, the entire contract may be null and void, and Gale is merely messing with Raphael.
