    This was a very enlightening review. I have had Vivint for 4 years & was never shown things you covered in this video. I don't have all the smart devices you do hooked up so this was great to learn other features I may think about adding. Thanks for putting in so much time explaining & showing all these features. I never knew I could see weather on this thing. You are definitely right about cost, prior to installation I was quoted one price, when I got the bill after installation it was twice that price!! They could never fix that issue, live & learn!

    THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! This video was truly needed - a real home user sharing their experience with Vivint. Plus, a smart new home owner doesn't want to be burdened with DIY home security, I've done so in the past and it is exhausting! Yes, Vivint is pricey, but you get what you pay for and your peace of mind deserves 'white glove service'. Can part 2 include integrating with z-wave capable products? Thank y'all again for this content 🙏🏾

      Exactly! I always tell my customers who ask why were priced higher than others that it’s the same reason you buy an iPhone instead of a flip phone. Because it does more and it’s the best. Personally any time I’ve tried to save money going with a cheaper option I’ve always regretted not going with what I really wanted.

      Do not trust vivint! This is an insanely crooked company. They weaponize contracts and the salesman are encouraged to deceive. Vivints game is to lock you in a contract before you can cancel, they just want to sell you their shit equipment that doesn't even work half the time. Once you've paid off your equipment, good luck if you need anything fixed. You could have five techs come out before one of them even knows how to fix the problem and most likely they'll just ignore your issues entirely, because they got what they wanted already (your money). The salesman just make up prices at will, I've seen smaller packages go for 4,000 and then biggerr ones go for 3,000. And this would be on the same day in the same neighborhood so no sleezy salesman can say it was a discount day or something. They just make up prices and slap on extra fees at will. I was a tech and once I started doing services instead of only new installs, I was able to hear the truth from customers and see for my own eyes what a shit company vivint is. That's why I quit. I do not want to rip off people for a living and they treat their employees like shit. The salesman and customer service are all under trained and incompetent. I would have to stay on the phone for three hours just to get these morons to add a sensor to a package, because if I tried to do it, it would add hundreds of dollars to overall price! For one sensor! One time I removed a garage door opener from the package and it made the package price INCREASE, so I had to spend hours on the phone as an employee (in the middle of the install at the person's house) just to get that fixed while a customer mean mugs me. I would do services where the door sensors unlearned themselves from the panel for no reason! This happened a lot! If you can't even trust the sensors, you can't trust their cameras. Meaning if someone broke in the alarm wouldn't have gone off. This happened days after the install. The cameras go offline constantly, they don't always record events and the camera quality is terrible. Vivint does not care about their employees or customers. The salesman will make promises that are not possible. The cameras are not wireless, they use a cat5 wire that runs to a plug that is also a wireless repeater. If your power goes out your cameras will not work. If your wifi goes off you can not view your cameras from the app. Stay away from vivint. Also, the panel becomes your new doorbell chime. It's not loud at all at max volume. If you're not near the panel you won't know if someone rang your doorbell.

    You are so right especially about the prices, I got my cameras June 30th 2022, I paid $2,267 in full for only 2 outdoor cameras, 3 door sensors and 1 motion sensor and they never worked properly from day one. They did not allow me to cancel within my 3 day period they have been stringing me along, and today is July 12th which is the 3rd time I had an appointment for them to come install new cameras, 2 times they didn't come they had excuses, now today they was supposed to come install new camera from 12noon - 4:00pm and it's now 5:19pm. I am so disappointed with Vivint with how my issue have been handle.

      What city are you in? Sometimes Vivints technician situation in certain cities isn’t the best, typically if you are located outside of the major cities in your state. But the system itself is amazing, but only if you have good wifi. If your wifi isn’t good, I would not recommend Vivint. It’s a powerful system, so you need good enough wifi to run it with no issues.

    • @MikeJ2525
      @MikeJ2525 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your wifi is really good and you still have issues, then your panel is most likely a little too far away from where your cameras are installed outside the house. If there’s too much distance between the panel and the cameras, that can affect the efficiency of the system. If you think that might be the case, ask them about reconnecting your cameras using the PLC connection. That makes the cameras think they are hardwired to the panel, instead of being connected over Z-wave.

    Hello. Great review. I recently bought a home and the previous owner had a vivant system so I was looking into their service offerings. • @thedavisathome9637
      @thedavisathome9637  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes it has a battery back up and uses a cellular connection while your Wi-Fi is down. I don’t think the battery will last days but at least several hours for power to come back up

    • @trentonedwards8203

    • @Little_Bitz
      @Little_Bitz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@trentonedwards8203 is correct. It has decent enough backups battery if you lose power and do not have a backup generator. And it uses AT&T as the cellular backup. Something to consider if it does not work well in your area. Also, They ONLY give you 3 days to change your mind once it is installed unless you work something out with your equipment rep beforehand. That's not enough time to learn all the small things that may be deal breakers for you. And they know that.

I live in end unit townhouse so no thanks to outside camera. I glad that the hub can be remove because I live in a 3 levels. I definitely do not want to be under contract either. The Smart lock works great, but just heads up: if you happen to loose electric &/or power off for a repair, the panel will still guard your home (via battery backup) BUT Smart lock will go off line from your panel & app/ No worries: (You can manually use your lock & reset it by sliding Vivint hub/panel off wall mount & remove backup battery for only 30sec , reinsert it & properly slide panel back onto mount..your panel will then reboot then your Smart lock will work fine again 👍😉

    Sorry I keep stopping the video, your video is good thank you. Yes you are right I have talked to 11 people at Vivint and I kept feeling like they all really didn't know how to get my problem resolved, I asked where is the company located in my area? they said the company is in Utah, I asked but where is the equipment kept? the person said the technician allow to order his kits for his appointments. I asked those questions because was not understanding why they was giving me a hard time about replacing my cameras especially after finding out on the very first day that the cameras I have had just been uninstalled from another customer's home, because all of her recordings was still on my Hub. Even the one when he rang her doorbell and said hi, I'm so and so, I'm here to uninstall your cameras, that was on the same day a few hours before he installed had my cameras.

    I needed to see this prior to my install. I had a utility concierge call to help with my move and utility set up. I knew a security system was important to me and would also save money on my home insurance. I am concerned about equipment costs and contract since she was very vague, only mentioning my initial 39.99 I paid that day and the 49.99 per month following. She did mention it's 19.99 after 5 years. I'm assuming because the equipment is paid for at that point? Any additional info about cost would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!!

    • @MikeJ2525
      @MikeJ2525 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’ve got that right! Your monthly payment of $49.99 is both your equipment payment of $29.99 each month, and $19.99 for your monitoring. The equipment pays itself off after 60 months. You can pay off your equipment portion sooner if you’d like with no penalty, and can cancel with no cancellation fee. If you qualified for our Citizens Line of credit, then your equipment is financed at 0% so there’s no rush in paying off the equipment sooner than later if your worried about paying interest. 👍🏼

ADT is exactly half price in compare of Vivint with same equipment and lock in 3 years contract and with Vivint is twice more money but no contract and also $10 more monthly monitoring price. I don't consider security system as fancy things and I'm treating it like insurance. You sure don't want to use it but pray to have better one when the time comes.

    We have had Vivint for about 4 years and we have had nothing but problems since day one. Cameras are nice "at first".....but they constantly go offline all the time, Windows sensors problems, panel went black several times. Oh and let's not talk about the camera clips that don't playback or catch every movement. And each time the solution was for "us" to troubleshoot. They would walk us through having to unplug the panel, take a screwdriver and take the battery out (long process) to restart the system. I was upset because I felt I shouldn't have to work this hard because I am not a technician & it ws their faulty system not working but they refused to send someone out free of charge until we did this. After about 8 or 9 times of the same issue, several complaints, manager callback request, 6 or 7 billing credits for my "inconvenience", they finally said they figured out the issue. But guess what??? I still have issues! I am just waiting for March when my contract is over to cancel. I pray your experience is 1000x better than mines!❤

    I wish I had found your new home building experience videos this past summer. In the process of getting a Ryan Home built, but I’m at the finish line - close in early Jan 2022. Also, I like the review of the alarm system as well. Integration with Google Nest and the garage door opener are requirements for me.. I’ll probably do the front door lock as well.

No, as mentioned in the video we have seen things here and there but its not consistent.........I've also heard stories about being difficult to cancel but thats down to if you have a contract term with them or not. This is actually one of the main reasons we opted not to go into a contract with Vivint because some people said its great others say its trash so I wanted to be sure we could exit easily if needed. Great video! My home is a new construction and heard you say yours was too. Drywall has not been put up yet. My GC advised that I should reach out to a security company now so that they can earmark placement for the outdoor cameras. When calling Vivint customer service, you're speaking with Sales People (young and unexperienced as everyone as mentioned) not technicians. They told me that they don't send technicians out until the construction is completely done. I understand that they're able to install everything once the drywall is up because obviously not everyone is working with a new construction...but I would imagine that there are some benefits of being able to layout the wring ground work before the walls go up. Just wondering if you installed after the construction was done or if anyone has any insight on this....Thanks!

      Can be somewhere below 1K right upto 2K plus......... It depends on many factors such as your equipment selections, are you paying upfront with no contract? Or your doing a payment plan with a contract, of course doing a contract = reduced equipment price. As mentioned in the review, their pricing is very confusing, one person will tell you one price then you'll hear something different from another.

    • @thedavisathome9637

      It's down to you and your preference on how many cameras you need/want but the Vivint tech does walk around your home to scope out best places to put your cameras that cover large areas of detection zones and will provide advice, also, because the flexibility with the indoor camera some people don't feel the need to get multiple because it can be moved around or mounted to a wall, the system is expandable so you can always start with one then purchase more later down the line if needed

    So you chose Vivint over ADT even though ADT offered the same exact package for HALF the price of Vivint? I'm confused as to why you chose the more expensive company then.

    • @thedavisathome9637
      @thedavisathome9637  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes indeed I did........first of all even though ADT was cheaper in terms of equipment , it still required 5 or 7 year contract, which as stated in the video, I wanted no part of any contracts. If I took that option with ADT I would be stuck with them for that contract period unless I buy my way out, which I am sure would work out the same as paying Vivint upfront cost or close to it. Secondly, I prefer the technology Vivint had to offer over ADT so already had my mind up regardless. Besides, if I was so concerned about which is cheaper I would of just gone with the much cheaper DIY options. Its all about whats important to you , price, technology, reliability the list goes on

    • @Little_Bitz
      @Little_Bitz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thedavisathome9637 I see. Thank you for your response. I'm currently trying to decide myself and what I found so far is that Vivint is really expensive. Much more than I thought it would be. That is to say, they explained to me that if I do not want a contract then, as you said in video, I have to buy my equipment up front. Which is just under $3k. OR I can pay half and take out a LOAN, for the amount that is owed and they do a soft and hard inquiry etc etc. So it isn't a financing option but a loan as he explained it to me. And that of course is how you end up in a "contract" like situation. So price considering, I'm still looking around. I don't want any contracts either and I know there are other cheaper DIY options but I'm still on the fence. So... Off to part 2 of your video, lol. Btw I had a similar experience with customer service today and I haven't even made a decision yet.

    • @thedavisathome9637
      @thedavisathome9637  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I hear you, It's alot of money to payout upfront.......just take your time and continue to research on other options. You could also consider starting with less equipment then adding more later down the line if you do end up liking Vivint, you probably would have to pay for installation cost when you do add more stuff but just something to consider if there is nothing else out there you like.

    Hello fellow Davis family! My family and I are looking into home security systems and I just spoke to a rep and to be honest, he was not friendly, or kind, or patient with me and the questions I have. I am looking at Vivint and SimpliSafe and it seems like he was turned off by that as soon as I told him. He quoted me 4x the amount of SimpliSafe. And when I questioned the pricing he was annoyed with me. Sorry, just doing my due diligence. Do you have a rep that you refer? I'd love to speak to someone who is professional and patient with me!

      Hey! back at you fellow Davis fam.......sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the sales rep.......honestly, the sales rep I had was nice, but he deceived me by adding very old cameras rather than the latest ones I asked for and made it look like he was giving me a huge discount so I would not recommend him atall LOL! Vivint doesn't have the best reputation with their sales reps. I would suggest try calling again to speak to another one and see how that goes. SimpliSafe is definitely one of the best DIY security systems and was an option I too considered.

      @@thedavisathome9637 Darn it... I was hoping you had a wonderful rep you could share. Not sure why they have to be so deceitful. I asked the Vivint guy if he was giving me the best price, as he knew I was comparing Vivint to SimpliSafe and he said yes, then I asked him about an Instagram promotion I saw and he said, oh no, I don't know about that and then said let me check, ohhh yeah, I can do that. It was so blatantly obvious he was done with me when I initially told him I was trying to figure out what system I wanted to go with.

      @@DawnDavisBobDavis I suggest you look elsewhere to be honest. Unless you're dead set on this company and then only reason at this point would be because you can control your lights and thermostat etc from the panel or the app. The app only works well on Apple so if you have an android then it's a pain in the butt to get it to work. Constantly has to be closed and restarted. You can only use either a Google Nest or their own company thermostat so if you have another smart thermostat you're out of luck. In order to use the garage door equipment and cameras etc you have to use theirs and they charge $500 PER CAMERA. Do not let anyone lie to you and say different. Monitoring fee goes up $5-$10 bucks per additional camera you add on top of it. Really if you're already using smart home stuff and using the app then the fact that they have smart home integration is not a huge deal. Especially when you're obligated to use only those 2 brands. They're way too expensive for nothing. Especially when compared to ADT or other reputable companies. Use IFTT if you want to truly control it all on one device. Or your basic Apple or Samsung etc smart home apps. OH BTW, THE WALL PANEL IS HUGE FAT AND UGLY FOR NO REASON. A true eye sore on the wall. Too many reasons on top of the already ridiculous price they charge are why I am cancelling. Not to mention a huge electrical issue they caused at install and made very little effort aside from empty words, to fix it. I see no real reason why you go with them at this point. Maybe in the future when they get better looking stuff, better reliable customer service, and more fluid smart home integration with products. On top of everything else. Not to mention, if you do not want a contract you have to pay it all upfront and it still costs way more than all other companies. If you are ok with a contract you end up paying 3-4 times more money over time. Ex: $1200 upfront or $3000-$3500+ with a contract loan and hard credit inquiries. And that's just for a few items of equipment mind you. That's a very basic set-up. See for yourself. Oh and I forgot to mention here as well. You pony get 3 days to decide if you want to stay with them once it is installed. Unless you work out something with your equipment rep before install or have a huge issue like I did with the dangerous electrical problem.

      Good question, I didn't sign anything outside of the original terms agreed to. When finally speaking to a competent person I was told I had 2 accounts in 4 year contract and a whole mess was caused that he needed to fix ASAP, I guess he clearly he seen the previous people I spoke to did something they shouldn't have........in regards to what we paid for installation, it was waived by the salesperson, I think this was because we were paying for equipment upfront. I believe usually its $99. Our monthly fees is discounted due to the mess that was caused so it's somewhere under $40 for monitoring and miscellaneous fees.........thanks for watching!

  • @johnszatkowski6898
    @johnszatkowski6898 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I looked into this system and were TOO many negatives for me! First off is the equipment costs and the "professional" installation that is REQUIRED at additional costs. Next, 3months from now if you want to "add" something to this system it again REQUIRES "professional" installation at added cost every time you want to "add" something plus the cost of whatever device you want to add! If something fails in the system again it REQUIRES a "professional" to come out (whenever one is available) and your system could be completely "down" for several days again at additional costs. Lastly, if you discover this "system" is NOT for you and want to cancel be prepared to pay HUGE-HUGE fees to cancel. The LAST nail in the coffin was the monthly operating costs at $50-55+ a month! WAY TOO EXSPENSIVE and is NO better than ADT which "bends-you-over" at every turn where there are MANY other options out there that have NO contracts, NO cancelation fees and are WAY less a month for the SAME protection at 24/7monitoring, smoke, CO2, and glass breakage, multiple camera coverage, and provides cellular backup! At $55+ a month added up over 10years this is NOT acceptable to pay when the same can offered elsewhere for MUCH less! I had ADT and dumped them like a "bad habit" when my "contract" was up as they got greedy and service SUCKED! You NEED to "look" into those "hidden" fees and cancelation costs before you "buy" any system! You'd be surprised how MANY people do not consider this and pay through the A$$ in the end! This is how ADT and Vivint make their MONEY! I won't "play" that game anymore!

    • @thedavisathome9637
      @thedavisathome9637  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for you comments, yeah you definitely need to look at the hidden fees........I can only speak from our experience, we didn't have to pay the initial installation so I guess that all depends on what deal is going on at the time or the sales person you speak to because they waived it for us. Also because we paid equipment upfront and have no contract, we are on a month to month with no cancellation fee. They are expensive, there is no denying that and there is plenty of cheaper options out there especially with the DIY options.......it's all down to your preference and doing your homework, before signing anything.

      Month to month is the way to go in your situation with the NO cancelation fee and NO contract. They waved the installation fee as they make up for that with the monthly fees. It's nice to see this company "changed" its ways somewhat. The system does offer some really good features but for me the price was just too high.

    • @thedavisathome9637
      @thedavisathome9637  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the tech definitely sold me, the high price was a tough pill to swallow so I wanted to make sure we were not bound to them for years if we ended up not liking it or system doesn't work so I said a big N.O to contracts, because the reviews from real people are not the best. Only the "professional" review people really rave about them.........sooo about the monthly fees, ours is actually on the cheaper side because of all the mess ups they did that we mentioned in the video, not sure how long it will last but I have been watching it like a hawk!

      @@thedavisathome9637 ;
      You did it "smart" I played it "stupid" when I re-activated an existing system in the home I bought that had ADT in 2005. It was outdated then and they would not update it without astronomical prices and kept jacking up the costs with no new features and then dumped them like a bad habit! This is why I am so against "contracts"! At least you have the option to "dump" it anytime! I was bound to 2years at that time and now I read ADT does 3year contracts now! Do you have backup cellular with your setup? This is where ADT was bending me over at that time but it's an important feature to have. My current system has cellular backup and it's a MUST for me. As you mentioned, is any system really "perfect"? Of course not! There are compromises to be made with any system.
