- www.RiffNinja.com Pipeline is a super famous surf rock song, one of the very coolest. This lesson covers the intro riff for this song, and other lessons will cover the other parts. In the intro riff, you really need to watch your alternate picking. Visit RiffNinja.com for a detailed lesson on alternate picking.
The "sixteenth slide note thing" Is actually a thing called "glissando" or "descending gliss" which is star of the show in style of Don Wilson's "Tekke-Tekke" rythum guitar in which any guitar with dual P-90 pickups in the Middle position (best choice is Fender Jazzmaster) may be used paired up with a Fender tube powered amplifier with inbuilt spring reverb set high to get that "oil drip" when the low E and A strings are palm muted.
This was actually quite a good lesson. I played the guitar for the first time today and this is what I decided to play and I managed it with your video.
Nice lesson, thanks. Shows you can get that surf sound with any guitar and good facial expressions when humming the solo!
Thanks RiffNinja~ I play with a bud in our garageband (PTSD BOYS) and have been struggling for months about playing the rhythm for this song...I got it!
Mahalo!

nice job, good explanation and easy to follow.
Great video! thanks!
It's crazy how a few techniques and a certain key creates different styles and sounds.
Thanks, you're so cool. I really learned a lot from your video. Surf on!
Just starting to learn this song today, good job man, I know this is an old video but still very good.

Great, are you teaching solo guitar online sir ?
thanks for the video
thanks thats pretty fun!
Pipe line is by the Ventures
Nope ,it's by The Chantays.
Okay you start at the 20th fret for the slide........... And also why are you using an Ibanez for surf???
Hello oddkin13 , the slide is on the A string......
Maybe to him it's a cheaper alternative to a Gretch and he's on a tight budget, although hollow body guitars weren't a thing during the ORIGINAL era of surf guitar. It was usually a Fender Stratocaster or some other Fender variant, of course Danelectro and Mosrite guitars were popular too. I've seen pictures of Link Wray playing a Gibson Les Paul ,but he ditched it for a Gibson SG. Why criticize the man's gear? It works and you're not paying for the lesson so...
감사합니다.^^
Turn the reverb up dude. And get that telecaster for this or a les Paul studio
I play this with some modifications of course
The sliding gliss is on the A string
How is he doing all thins without a pick! LOL
Damn dude, you talk waaaay to much. Just play and explain
