      It's a Stacy Adams that I got on-line at GentlemensEmporium.com. Tough to get ascots in the US, most are shipped from UK with long lead times. Mine is microfiber. It is durable and less likely to fuzz due to whisker rub while also having great hand.

      Albert, just started to rock these as well. Game changer although not everyone is a fan at least not initially ;). My first couple I found at a community yard sale. They are shorter in length by an inch or so and thinner silk material. However, I just got two new ones from Cravat Club in London and I feel like it's way too much material for warmer seasons? What do you do when it gets warm, say 80+ degrees.

    Thank you Sven, I was looking at a photo of me back in 69 dressed up in a blazer wearing an ascot and after becoming acquainted with your broadcast I saw this particular one and thought, "I really want to start wearing an ascot again!' Today I stopped a this fine boutique thrift store and found the perfect small scarf to use and am now enjoying the style of the ascot once again again, thank you!

    I wanted to thank you again for this wonderful video. Most importantly, when you demonstrate the way to position and tie the ascot, you are showing something that is so very important: you're showing the way to use a gentle hand. That is what I learned from you!
    I'm an old man. My generation was taught to take out a lot of frustrations on the necktie. We used to make violently forceful knots that you almost could not undo later. Thank you again for teaching the gentle-handed way to tie a tie.

    This is great. I've been looking for a kind of neckwear that is suitable for use in Australia:
    1. Protects the back of the neck from sunburn
    2. Allows an open top button for cooling
    3. Is not exceedingly formal
    The ascot is ideal

    Great vid... I really love the modified ascot tie as well. I've had my ascots for years and never thought to tie it like a regular tie and bring the long end over... I was use to tying it like the first tie in this video. The knot would always drop or lose.. Thanks for the video...

    I accidently bought a, what I now know as a Half Ascot, and spent about half an hour trying to figure out how the heck to tie it. Then when I watched this video and learned what you call one of these monstrosities, I laughed for about a half an hour over hearing it as "Halfass". What a perfect term for it.

    Very distinctive, comfortable, elegant, that few men would decide to wear, either because of fear of being different, or the desire to conform to the regiment necktie!

    I use the loose middle knot with an unbuttoned shirt. I like the more casual style. Right now, I'm using a large material square as bandanas tied with a small square knot to fasten and tucked into my neck. When around people, I pull it over my nose as an ersatz respirator.
    Of course, it is color-coordinated with my shirt.

    Regarding ascot styles, what style should I incorporate? Would I work it with my outfit like I would a tie, or would it be different because it has a larger presence. Similar to ties, should I have the pocket square work with the outfit like I would with a tie, or just keep the pocket square simple to highlight the ascot?

    • @gentlemansgazette
      @gentlemansgazette  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    dear sven, what would be the best way to wash those silk ascots? hand wash, or cold cycle in the washing machine?

  • @Ascotman
    @Ascotman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I own both self tie and pre-tied ascots, and the pre-tied ascots, from Beau Ties Ltd, and Vintage OST ascots are my favorite! Why? The pre-tied ascots have a velcro closure, to fasten the ascot tightly around your neck. When I say tightly, I mean tight enough so the ascot does not slip down your neck, but stays comfortably in place around your neck.
    The self tie ascot always seems to loosen up and needs to be tightened and adjusted several times during the day to look properly in place under an open collar button down collar pinpoint oxford cloth white dress shirt.
    I prefer to wear an ascot with the top two buttons unbuttoned, to reveal more of the elegance of the silk ascot!
    Just my thoughts of wearing an ascot, which is my neck wear of choice.
    I enjoy the silken comfort and the distinctive elegance that wearing an ascot provides a gentleman.

    In what instances it is ok to wear the ascot on top of the shirt's collar and in what instances its recommended to wear it under the shirt's collar? I appreciate your educational videos. Thank you.
