    45 to 50 years ago I grew up in a house whose garden backed onto the line between Tattenham Corner and Tadworth stations. During that time I walked passed the Tadworth station a lot, and saw Tattenham Corner station a bit from outside, but I've never been on the line. And never saw what happened after the line rounded the corner from Tadworth. Many thanks for the opportunity to ride the line.

    The 5-car Class 377 Electrostars are quite suited to this line. They usually depart London Bridge as a 10-car set and split them at Purley with one set going off the Caterham.
    The first time I went from East Croydon to Tadworth by train, 9 years ago, they had engineering works on the Caterham branch. At the time, they ran two 455s and at Purley, they told passengers to board the front 4 carriages while someone went and locked all of the doors of the rear unit. After I finished what I was doing at Tadworth, I wanted to see what they did at Tattenham Corner so continued there (a one-day travelcard gives you this flexibility). At Tattenham Corner, they got everybody off the train and started locking the other unit up. They then unlocked the 4 carriages at the London end before allowing people to board. At Purley, they unlocked the rear 4 carriages.

      The same still happens. Caterham, as well as the 5 car 377s, gets 8 car 455s and they lock up the back 4 in each direction between Purley and Caterham

    Another nice video. I find these very nostalgic, travelling some of these routes with my parents many years ago now. Many of the stations haven't changed that much and there is still a recollection from the past in this ever changing world, a lot of changes, not for the better unfortunately. You can see why the railways are expensive, with all that infrastructure to keep in order.

    So I sat down to enjoy your new cab ride video without reading the complete description. Up until about half the way through I kept asking myself, "Why is he stopping at the green signals at the end of the platforms? Is this some kind of special stop and proceed signal?" Then it dawned on me--we aren't riding a tamper. I think I need a cup of tea to wake myself up. Cheers from Wisconsin!

      There’s an air valve on the cab door. I believe it prevents the cab door being opened whilst the train is in motion, but I haven’t put it to the test!! 😂

    I notice the livery is the same as was used by Central and then the London Midland franchise. These train operators don't have much imagination when it to choosing colour schemes for their fleets. Perhaps it's because they don't actually own the trains and lease them from another company, which is why train travel in the UK is so expensive. Far too many persons on the top rung of the ladder probably doing a 2 day week.

    • @emmo999
      @emmo999  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s not the same livery as either. The only similarity is they all use green. As for the rest, I refuse to comment, as my channel is to enjoy cab rides, not discuss politics

    • @AndreiTupolev
      @AndreiTupolev 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are or were under the same ownership (Go Ahead) so it was probably a uniform style. Certainly a lot better than London northwestern that succeeded London Midland

    • @OfficialRyanx
      @OfficialRyanx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of TOCs don’t own the rolling stock, in fact most of them don’t, yet most of the operators have changed liveries on the rolling stock a number of times. Look at LNER - GNER, NXEC, Virgin and now the Azuma style livery. The Southern franchise was run by Connex 1996 - 2001 and had an all white and yellow strip livery. Far from exciting. Point being, prior to now, TOCs have long been able to create their own liveries even though they don’t own the rolling stock outright.

    • @peterbattey8263
      @peterbattey8263 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OfficialRyanx That's more than likely why rail travel is so expensive in the UK. Colour schemes Shareholders not to mention the subsidies payed to subsidise the foreign companies that are nationalised in their country of origin, mainly France, Italy, Germany and Holland even as far away as Japan and China too.
