something to watch for when spinning and sliding at the same time is that nothing is symmetrical. the thrusters on his left leg would be at full power when he's facing left, but almost off when facing right. same with the sparks. the foot closest to the camera is moving way faster than the other one.
I'm pretty sure they're sliding by momentum, and that because they're completing full rotations, the average directional force in the horizontal plane roughly zeroes out. To pick on a different issue, I'm pretty sure the mech boosts in the wrong direction to stop its momentum at the very end there. Its sliding backwards, but activates all front facing boosters when coming to a stop, which would push it backwards.
