    I have never seen one of these, thanks for sharing. It looks to me to be a very adaptable design with the ability to reduce the heat by turning down or off one or two wicks. Our reliance on the electricity grid for everything is proving problematic. Even here in Ireland with our mild climate we recently witnessed a storm with up to 500, 000 houses without electricity for upto a week. Having alternative forms of cooking, heating, lighting & transport is more relevant now than ever.

    The different sized concentric rings are to enable maximum exposure to the rising heat for pots/saucepans of different sizes.
    You just use the largest that will support the base
    A beautiful stove (although I prefer a more efficient and less smelly/smokey blue flame)

      They dont have to smell at all it depends on what kind of fuel is used ...mine 2 wick haller only smells a little bit when lit but after 2 minutes it is gone ....most of these people buy one of these things and dont know how to use them ...like this guy or even read some info

    High matey. It's old George in the UK. I have just purchased a Stove similar to this one. But no cast iron rings. Cheers from George and Jane. 🤠🇬🇧👍👫

    I think the separate rings are to keep the plate from warping when the heat expands and contracts. it is just a guess.

    I Would Assume The Rings Are To Accommodate Different Sizes Of Pots When You Need More Heat By Removing Rings To Be Closer To The Heat Source.???

      @jerrycallaio5130 That's what I'm thinking, too.

    Had to watch your video again. Your stove is really beautiful. I wish I had one like it. I don't see Hallers for sale around here very often. I'd like to get a Perfection one or two burner as well.

      YES! I think Perfections are really cool! I can't wait to try cooking on the thing.

    I think those three rings are like the rings on the top of a wood stove. If you have a small pan, you use all the rings. A large pan you would take off rings until the opening fit the bottom of the cast iron pan.

      @@fotinimihalaki3435 I honestly don't remember what I bought it for. I think somewhere in the $250 range. Especially since it had the rings and stuff.

    I would be very nervous using this inside a home. Did they dry burn the wicks back in the day Sir ??

    • @OysterPir8
      @OysterPir8  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I've read, yes. Why would you be nervous?

    • @victoryfirst2878
      @victoryfirst2878 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One reason, back in the days quality of kerosene was questionable. A many homes burned to the ground because the fuel was adulterated with gasoline. Documented history can be believed and learned from.. Great video fella too. vf@@OysterPir8

    That tool is a blacksmith made flint knapping hammer of cold steel (cold low carbon steel won't spark the flint accidentally in a rifle). It clears the touchhole area (the pick side) and the blunt end will chip the flint to a sharp and even edge with tapping.
    You do see this stove is really just a series of two open enamelware pots. Hard for an adult to tip over, but take care in moving as the oil will slosh and run out the sides. A puddle of K1 will not burn. Only a wicking surface will burn do discard carefully any paper towel or rag used to wipe it up. That will burn uncontrollably.
    K1 if you can find at a gas station is under $4 a gallon from a pump. K1 in a store bottle is about $20 a gal.

    Hi , i have the same stove but its the 2 wick model . i have tried to boil water on it but it takes way to long to get to the boil if at all , what was your experience like when you tried to cook or boil water ?

    • @OysterPir8
      @OysterPir8  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took about 15 minutes when the kettle was full. When I made soup on it, it got going pretty quickly. When I did a test and boiled 1L of water in that same kettle, it took about 7-8 minutes. I removed the iron rings so the heat from the flames was reaching the kettle as quickly and directly as possible. I started a video on my iPad, but I ran out of memory. I'd love to see a video of your stove!

      Hi and thank you for your reply , I'm guessing that 3rd wick makes quite a difference . i am also questioning the quality of the kerosene i am using here in Indonesia , i suspect its low quality and there are no choices to my knowledge .... do you think high quality kero burns hotter ?

    • @OysterPir8
      @OysterPir8  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I switched to odorless mineral spirits. The kerosene smells.

      Now you have me curious. I will try it on one wick and then two and then three sometime.

      i will be interested to read your results , just for interest sake i am using a vintage Iranian kerosene single wick Samovar [ large round wick ] it comes to boil as quick as using LPG .

    Seems most of the wick stoves are loosely woven, with a catalytic process. This tightly woven wick seems like a simple design.
