  • The journey starts with a 4-kilometer tunnel called the Drogden Tunnel, located on the Danish island of Amager. It connects to an artificial island called Peberholm. From Peberholm, we crossed the Øresund Bridge, which is the longest combined road and railway bridge in Europe. It stretches for about 8 kilometers, connecting Peberholm to the Swedish coast in Malmö.
📌Peberholm is a nature reserve made from Swedish rock and soil that was leftover from the construction of the Øresund Bridge and tunnel.
The Drogden Tunnel consists of 20 large reinforced concrete segments, each weighing a massive 55,000 tonnes. These segments are connected in a trench on the seabed. Inside the tunnel, there are two tubes for railways, two for roads, and an extra small tube for emergency use.
Construction of the Øresund Bridge began in 1995. It was officially inaugurated on July 1, 2000, and quickly opened to the public. This vital transportation link significantly reduced travel time between Denmark and Sweden, benefiting passengers and cargo transport. The bridge symbolizes international cooperation and innovative engineering, fostering economic and cultural ties between the two countries. It stands as an iconic landmark, showcasing human ingenuity in bridge construction.
