Grenzebach Float Glass Line | Double Pick on the Fly

At the restart of both lines at Fuyao’s Mt. Zion, IL float operation, Grenzebach provided all new, state of the art glass handling, cutting and stacking capability. Starting at the end of the annealing lehr, Grenzebach’s equipment transports the continuous glass ribbon through the cutting and snapping operation, defect inspection and stacking. Grenzebach’s cutting optimization and process control systems link with Fuyao’s ERP system and maximize cutting yields based on current orders, routing individual glass sheets to one of 12 robot stackers which pick parts “on the fly” from the line and stack them onto racks for delivery to end customers. The line is capable of producing a full range of part sizes, from small window sizes up to full ribbon width sizes. Because the plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without disruption, equipment reliability is a must. This reliability is what Grenzebach’s customers have grown to expect from them.
