    Lately I have been feeling frustrated that after working on myself for so long and going to therapy, my inner issues are still there. I felt like deep down nothing has changes, I am just a bit more stable and able to communicate about it better. Hearing you talk about emotional regulation and stability was very validating. Yes it is frustrating that I still have so much to work on, but the work and therapy I have done already was probably necessary before starting to go deeper.

    This is such a great tool to help people understand what is involved in this process. It goes a long way to take some of the fear and confusion away. Great video!

    My therapist suggested this and I am the type of person to say f it.. lets go. Im pretty excited about it. For me personally she calls it ptsd for a 1 time trauma that is trigger very rarely BUT when it does its full blown terror. So I'm excited to reprocess this 1 incident and get back to my life before shit hit the fan lol. I thank all these therapist posting online 🙏 and helping us be the best humans we can be! Thank you!

      Kevin - so awesome you are willing to give it a try! I believe it is one of the most effective methods, particularly for a 1 time trauma. Wishing you all the best!

    Hi! A couple of questions: what about the right screen dimensions? Are eyes' issues, such as miopia or astigmatism, a problem? Very interesting and clear contribution, as usual! Thank you very much!

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi: I don't believe miopia or astigmatism impact emdr at all. When I have clients who aren't comfortable with the light bar, we use tapping which can also be done online. And as for screen dimensions, most of my clients just use the screen on a laptop and it seems to work fine. With a therapist, the light bar might have a greater range, but I don't find a difference in effectiveness.

      Hi: So sorry to hear about your partner's trauma. It does take time to find a good trauma therapist, but it is worth the search. I do have a video on finding an EMDR therapist: th-cam.com/video/Tc_MNa257nk/w-d-xo.html
      I no longer do psychotherapy. I wish you and your partner the best!

    So does this mean that EMDR doesn't help with severe depression and anxiety? Even though there was also issues of trauma in childhood? This is my 4th time going through this severe depression and anxiety in 7 years since full hysterectomy. I went through it in my 20s and as a child. I am seeing a therapist now who does EMDR but we haven't done EMDR yet just going over things and learning to use container method and some tapping for positive reinforcement. I have an underlying depression and anxiety so if this isn't going to help me then I don't want to waste money that I can't afford. I am on medication for depression but not helping much.

      Hi Georgina: I don't believe I say it doesn't help with depression and anxiety... (I'm curious what implied that?). I find it most effective for anxiety and trauma, but those are also my specialties. The majority of stmy clients have found it helpful, but not all. I wish you all the best,

    Hi Barbara, Where would my Therapist purchase a light bar. We have been working on-line since lock down began and just doing a lot of Tapping during the session. When we were in the office EMDR I would follow her fingers.

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi: This is a site that has a built in computer light bar, and walks you through the EMDR questions - it can be used by therapists with clients, or clients by themselves - the therapist can turn the light bar off and on for the client: bit.ly/bhvirtualemdr. There is also a light bar on TH-cam that you can use while on with your therapist - you would just push the pause and start buttons when she says to do so: th-cam.com/video/DALbwI7m1vM/w-d-xo.html (When using this, I have the client turn off the sound on the YT video, leaving it on on the computer). Hope that is helpful!
