We witness a man fully broken down. He chose to abandon his crew in order to protect his father in the East Blue. He not only physically hurt his captain but he also verbally announced that Luffy's dream can never come into fruition to ensure that both Zeff and the Strawhats are safe from the Big Mom/Germa merger. Now his only ray of hope in Pudding, the fiance who was very supportive of him from the start, reveals that not only she despises the notion of marrying him but she'd also gladly pull the trigger on him during their wedding vows.
What a shitshow for Sanji but also absolute cinema. WCI kept serving and will still serve (wedding keikuuuuuu)

Yeah he still didn't trust his crew or Luffy, his captain for that matter so fuck Sanji. he should known better by now being one of the longest straw-hat members around, that if he just asked they would have helped him out on cake island, sacrificing himself only proves he hasn't grown at all from his time at the restaurant. why did he feel comfortable asking robin for help but not his fucking Captain?
@@madelinemcmillan4020 Congratulations, you MISSED his whole character and development during the entire arc. It was never about not trusting his crew or his captain. He TRUSTS them to come and die for him if it meant he gets the tiniest chance of getting out that's why he knew he HAD to take drastic actions AGAINST his crew to discourage them from even trying. He KNOWS just leaving will NOT be enough for the gang.
This is a VERY PERSONAL issue for Sanji in many ways more than one and one that he would prefer to leave his LOVED ONES (Zeff and Strawhats) out of. This was an impossible rescue attempt when you're up against the entire Big Mom Pirates and the enhanced Germa 66 army within BM's territory. Sanji's knowledge of Luffy's fighting force only exteds to the main crew, Law's and Kin'emon. There's no way they could've escaped with just that and without insane unforeseen help from the Firetank Pirates, Germa, Sun Pirates, Pekoms, Pedro, Jimbei, and the Charlotte siblings Pudding, Katakuri, and Brulee.
ALL of whom are NOT part of the original rescue plan. Sanji was 100% right it would've been a disaster had they not allied themselves with unexpected individuals and his VERY CARING heart cannot bear the burden that he'd be the reason his crew doesn't get to accomplish their dreams. No matter what you thought of how he went with it, he was the one self-sacrificing here that EVEN Luffy ACKNOWLEDGED with his speech.
He would have never put anyone from the crew on harm's way but clearly, Sanji now knows better than to not ask help from his family. He instantly called for Robin the moment he got himself in a bind with Black Maria and asked Zoro to kill him if he goes overboard with his genetic enhancement but he would die standing his ground against two one-billion bounty All Stars just to protect an injured Zoro.
This is coming from someone who doesn't have Sanji nowhere near his list of favorite characters but has media literacy.

@@KadurOrdoI mean all the stuff in there matches up with the sbs notes on the strawhat’s favorite foods that was out many years earlier than this episode’s release. Those caught up with Straw Hat trivia get the bonus of knowing immediately, letting others know is just putting them in the same boat.
Sanji always says that when a girl is in danger or cries he would always be there, but when he was crying no one was there. Wish I could have given him a bro hug 😔. Man, that scene where Sanji can't light his cigarette always gets me. He is a captive, he is all alone, he has just been betrayed and he can't even have a smoke. 💔

Many forget that we see Pudding so long ago in one of the episodes of the fishman island that they tend to forget about her with her secret. Episodes are the ones where you see Bigmom first time in silhouette along with Pudding and Bobby

Yet another amazing episode that never fails to make me cry. Sanji had given everything up to save Zeff and the Straw Hats, committing mutiny against his captain all to ensure he can continue his adventure, enduring the abuse from his biological family so the ones he considered family would be unharmed. He threw everything away and put his own happiness on the line, all while trying to convince himself that there could be SOME hope for him in this loveless marriage… and he breaks. After everything he’s lost and given up, Sanji’s at rock bottom. Not to mention, he poured his heart out to Pudding thinking she was his one hope, and all of his vulnerabilities and emotions were mocked and spat at in return. He quite literally can’t find himself in a worse position, the rain sizzling out the flame of the lighter highlighting that
People may not like Sanji as a character, but this arc and this EPISODE especially… hoo boy. It’s a tear jerker for sure

I've been waiting for this episode ever since you guys started WCI. I had just watched someone react to the Baratie arc and I've noticed that Sanji did the lighter thing when he was leaving Baratie too
@@riduanaqil1452 I was thinking that too! Sanji can’t seem to light up when under extreme distress, and the parallels between this and Baratie are fantastic. Back then Sanji thought he was being ridiculed and tossed aside by the cooks, but overheard them secretly wanting the best for him. But here, it’s the complete opposite and he’s left with nothing. No Luffy to pull him out of his situation (yet), no Zeff to kick him into shape, it’s just him, sad and defeated
