When I was 12 my sister’s boyfriend had a banshee, his neighbor had a quadzilla. Banshee was red & white, quadzilla was same as this. Both machines were absolutely incredible at the time. This video hit me in the feely’s of being a kid 30 yrs ago

@TheMapleDude1 I can tell. It wouldn't hang with a quadzilla if it was. I guess unless the zilla is slipping too. The powerband and delivery of the power sounds odd on the banshee. It sounds way too wound up with not enough output. It is a video tho and I get that. Also it seems like you only hear the banshee and never hear the zilla? I assume the banshee was mic'd up?

owned both, in stock form the quadzilla always beats a banshee, always. Back in the day 3-4 wheel action magazine bored a banshee to 400 and still lost in stock form. Sold my 87 quadzilla because parts were $$$$ and hard to find. Currently have 2 421 banshees, i can get all the parts i need for cheap. If your looking to buy one of these machines get a banshee and save the hassle of the Suzuki parts issues. What a great time for atvs, kind of like muscle cars of the late 60s, lots of power!

People always want to compare these two machines but its apples and oranges. Even bored to 400cc its still spotting the Suzuki 100cc so not a fair comparison. When I raced back in the 80’s I NEVER lost to a Suzuki 500 because with little modification the Yamaha would easily outperform and out handle the Suzuki “Quadzilla”…

I owned a Quadzilla for years sold it in my mid 20's. My buddies all had Banshee's some heavily modified. The results were exactly the same. Quadzilla is a faster machine and so easy to ride because its a torque monster. I didn't need to be on the pipe and could still climb anything! The wheel base is also a lot longer than the Banshee. The Banshee was fun to wheelie on or tight twist trails but pure speed was home for the Quadzilla. Too bad I didn't keep it.

Being a two stroke mechanic..the banshee has a very close ratio transmission compared to the Suzuki..the 500 lays down alot more torque..it has a lower ratio to take advantage of it's longer powerband and..plus those tallerd tires help with the wheel spin..lower air pressure on the rear tires would improve the banshee in a drag race..

Thats why fourstroke motors work so good on the bikes..its all about the traction and duration of hooking it up to the ground..the race was on a lose gravel road..the banshee makes more horsepower but its unstable and wasting it in wheelspin which sounds like a sliping clutch.. if you can get it to hook up it will tote the front tires the whole way

It's a hookup factor..think about it!! The banshee makes more horsepower...think about how fourstrokes took over motorcross..the four stroke a a wider power band range.. which allows less wheel spin..gives it better traction..two strokes have a more rapid and violent power band which gives away to wheel spin..which is slower..even though they are both two strokes the banshee is more violent and making more power..only at higher rpm..that's why its needs a close ratio transmission to keep it on that range..the 500 makes its power low end to mid at a longer range..just as the fourstrokes do.. quadzillas motor and transmission was tested and improved many years in the rm250 and rm 500 bikes ti give it a better platform for dragracing

    • @PaulBruce-lz1lc

If memory serves, the LT500 used a detuned variant of the original RM500 engine. As a result, one could make a far more powerful Quadzilla simply by blueprinting the LT500 to RM500 specs, or transplanting the stock RM500 straight into an LT500 chassis.
This brings to mind the question: what is the best all-around engine shared by both ATVs and big-bore off-road bikes? The immediate engine that comes to mind is the 650cc Honda four-stroke as used in the XR650R “Big Red Pig”, which exists as a fuel-injected variant in its Fourtrax counterpart.
Maybe a big bore 2 and 4 stroke comparison video is needed, and the winning motor is Frankensteined into a donor Fourtrax 250 to create the ultimate sleeper.

I grew up about 100 miles from Glamis. Those were the two top quads at the Glamis dunes every year when I was a teenager early 20's back in the late 80's early 90's. Having 100's of miles of BLM land to ride on really nice to have. The big spark arrester on the Quad zilla was due to the National forest always required spark arrestors on any vehicle. I think the 500 being it was a larger engine needed a larger spark arrestor. The motocross bikes were sold to be used on closed tracks it was never intended to be ridden in the forest. I do remember getting stopped on my KTM once by a ranger asking if I had a spark arrestor glad I had a super trap on it. I knew that was a big thing they checked for out west forest fires are a big problem.
