    Also, to be fair, and I know this isn't the same for everyone, but my opinion on a product and it's worth, personally, doesn't depend on and isn't affected by my personal ability to afford it, nor am I judging those that can. There are things that, yes, in my personal opinion, and that's all any of this is, is our opinions, are totally worth the asking price, whether I can pony up the dough or not, and there are just as many other things, that I think are charging a premium I don't necessary think is warranted again, whether or not I can afford it. Just saying value isn't always tied to ability to pay.

      I've addressed that comment about the ability to pay in the video as well. It's not the sole reason but it is one and possibly the biggest one.

      Shane’s a big baller that gets all this shit for free. It’s hilarious that in some videos he admits that he gets stuff for free or heavily discounted and some he acts like he pays for all of it.😂 I think we can all agree that we would take a Kaldiescape if someone gave it to us.
      I could afford one but to me the entire reason to have one is the convenience of having my entire collection in an easy to use interface. I have around 1500 movies, so to buy the hardware and all the movies would be like 40k! I just about purchased one back in the day before they went out of business the first time, back when you could actually put movies you already owned on them, but the studios screwed that up for us. What happens if they go out of business again? What happens to the thousands of dollars of movies purchased through their store? What if the hardware quits working after they go under? You admitted that not a lot of people will buy one and they have already failed once. You’re right about Apple not going anywhere, but I would be shocked if kaleidescape is around in 10 years.

    • @enderrobinson5556
      @enderrobinson5556 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The price of the Kaleidoscape is irrelevant to me. Even if they lowered the price to 500 or 1,000 dollars, I probably still wouldn’t buy one. I just couldn’t bring myself to purchase hundreds of movies on that platform over the next 5 to 10 years. I don’t have that much faith in a company that went out of business just a few years back. If the studios allowed us to load our movies on to them like they use to, I would be the first person in line with credit card in hand. Maybe if Apple makes a streamer that does full 4k blu ray quality I’ll buy one of those.

    Kaleidescape makes Shane happy and that’s all that matters. Niche products always have a small user base but they typically make those users very happy.

  • @Antimonkat
    @Antimonkat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just because something is the best at what it does, and is expensive due to expensive components, or to recoup r&D or make up for the fact it is a niche product, doesn't mean it can't be over valued, and the company isn't trying to fleece its gullible customers with nonsense, or take advantage of people who have enough money to not give a crap about the economics of it and are just like whatever it costs give it to me, it's all good. At least with an expensive car, there is a lot of development, shipping costs, expense in materials and labor, that can justify the price tag, vs something else, that is just expensive cus some one decided to price it that way with little to no reasoning matching the actual cost of production. Now I'm not saying that's the case with Kaleidescape, because there is one unreasonably expensive cost for them, that we dont have actual details on, and that's what the movie studios charge them for the mez file and the rights to produce their content. It's quite likely the movie studios being the greedy bastards they are, is screwing over Kal, and holding them over a barrel for the rights to do what they do, so they have to pass the screwing on to the consumers to make it workable. or...they could just be making massive profits and laughing all the way to the bank, I don't know. I'll say either way though, in the price to performance rating, Kal is not the worst offended by a long shot, no that award goes to some of these exotic loud speaker and especially exotic cable companies, who quite literally are selling you a story to justify expensive things with no actual technical benefit over cheaper alternatives. Kal at least provides something unique for the expense.

  • @Antimonkat
    @Antimonkat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey I think maybe you took that comment out of context or gave it differnt intent, either way, I'll tell you a maybe different perspective. Some, I wouldn't even say most, but some of the stuff you review is out of my budget, that doesn't mean the review "isn't for me" or people who can't afford it either. I'd say a majority of people who watch this, or any other youtube video are doing it for fun, or enjoy the hobby. I like tech, I like learning about tech, I get to "experience", learn about, enjoy through your enjoyment stuff that I would never be exposed to relying on my own access. That's why i come here, you know your stuff, you enjoy the hobby, and you generally have good taste. I don't consider you showing us this stuff as flaunting or bragging, you're giving the community exposure to things they wouldn't otherwise have, and you provide perspective and insight, yes this super expensive thing exists, but this less expensive thing also exists and gives a compelling experience other, look how much more value it has cus it does so much of what this more expensive thing does for a fraction, makes you appreciate the less expensive thing more. I enjoy your reviews and content whether the particular item of the day is in my budget or not, because I enjoy all things tech. I follow DDE, daily driven exotics, I love that channel, even though that content "isn't for me" per se. I can't afford an exotic car, I can't even drive due to vision issues but I like the content, the hosts and the beautify of the cars. I also like that they beat the shit out f these expensive toys lol. You shouldn't say a piece of content isn't for a particular viewer just because that viewer can't afford or wouldn't want a particular piece of gear. You never know what someone may want to experience out of your content, people get different things out of your videos, it isn't always, or even mostly about shopping advice. Maybe they just want to dream about what if, or feel better about what they own that gets close but costs way less. Same with Z reviews, I love his videos regardless fi he is reviewing an attainable $20 pair of iem's or a $5000 pair of headphones. i mean if you just reviewed the mass produced crap anyone could get at best buy (that's already been reviewed by 100 other youtubers) who would care? And you know, peoples means change, We went from barely making ends meat, to buying about $12000 in gear in the past few months due to wife getting a new job, and a lot fo what I got was featured on this channel at one point or another, so thanks,, just don't assume or target who your content is for based on budget. I generally like your attitude, slightly trolly nature, and don't give a fuck nature, but that comment came off kind of condescending for no real reason, but i get it comments are frustrating to deal with, maybe you were just blowing off steam.

    • @dynamicallychallenged
      @dynamicallychallenged  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm positive I've addressed this very same comment. I review stuff for all "budgets" if something doesn't meet that person's criteria for value then making excuses why it's bad or talking down about it accomplishes what? And you shouldn't make others who find value in it bad cause you may not find it valuable. That's a bullish comment and it's mean. So what it costs what it costs. People like $6k cables. So what. I won't retype everything I already said in this video but I'm sure you get the jist of it.

    I definitely was the opposite with the audio/video debate. I was always about the audio. It wasn’t until I achieved that big home theater sound that I realized I needed a projector to match. But the people who click off are the people that don’t have that home theater sound at home so to them it really doesn’t matter how good the audio is.

      Also just because you want and have money for a good viewing experience doesn't mean you have or want the knowledge involved in properly setting up 6 or more speakers plus the amp and all that, let alone the space, or want to comprimsie their decor with having to run wires to everything. And a good sound bar can get you 75%, 80% to a good audio experience.

      @@oledkingdom8286 you forgot the power cord...but in any case that isn't true. A small pair of bookshelves won't sound as good as a decent sound bar with a wireless sub, let alone wireless surrounds. Plus a sound bar with good cap can do more width smaller drivers then a basic stereo amp. Granted that kind of sound bar also costs more. Point is you can't generalize that much. Not all sound bars sound like craps and not all speakers sound better.

    You forget buying the hardware doesn't give you ANYTHING, you have to spend the 9 grand for the hardware, and then decide what $50 movies you want to buy so your very first movie, costs $9050. That value prop gets better the more movies you invest in to the system, but that's the other thing, relatively speaking, the Kal library really isn't that big. You get a blu ray and you have access to 10's of thousands of titles, the Kal is a limited access experience, you'll only use it when the movie you want is available, then you have to wait while it downlaods before you can enjoy it. If you bought the Kal and you had access to their entirely library on demand for free, that totally changes the value proposition, which seams to be how Bill was working his math. Even if you got 10, 50, 100 free movie credits with your purchase, that makes a much more palatable and valuable experience. i mean they dont even give you 1 movie included in yoru purchase right like a demo? Come on, my $3500 Sony TV gives me like 10 free movies, and 2 years of streaming included, and I'd bet the cost of hardware on that TV is more then the Kal strato box. It wouldn't kill them to include a few movies to get you started

    • @dynamicallychallenged
      @dynamicallychallenged  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can always browse their store. Not sure where you came up with $50 a movie? As far as waiting to enjoy a movie and waiting for it too download. If your talking about a new release movies you'll get it faster than waiting for best buy to open or waiting for that amazon delivery. If you've preordered it it's already downloaded and ready to watch the second it officially releases. So unless Best buy or amazon ships your movie early you won't get it faster than kscape. Movies can also download from 10mins on up depending on your internet speed. As far as the library, if you've already got a collection your likely not gonna rebuy all over again unless you've got some favs. As far as free movies sure that'd be nice but that's like buying an Sub-Zero fridge and expecting some free steaks to be included.

    Jut now getting to finish this stream so throwing out another comment. I actually signed up for the patreon bc you were looking all sorts of cool, different, and high end stuff. Im not going out and buying Trinnov, Mcintosh, or a Kaleidescape (actually tried to talk myself into the K-Scape recently) but I love this hobby and love getting a look at cool stuff. All the more affordable stuff has been covered hundreds of time already, so I'm definitely not looking for more videos on SVS, Klipsch, Marantz, Polk, etc. I just want to see some different stuff that's intriguing whether it's affordable or not. And lastly, I think what i want most is no more instructional videos from youtubers who spent 5 minutes with a product or software. Im not sure if there's something wrong with me but when I click on a video showing how to use a room correction software or a miniDSP and the guy has no clue what he's talking about I get so angry. Ha. I kinda wonder if it's just me on that one. Anyway, Shane, keep stirring the pot.

  • @taivo5753
    @taivo5753 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Personally I say the kaleidescape is a rip off. I’ll tell you why. I have 500 blu ray movies. I have ripped them all into my hard drives using a software called DVDFAB, cost about $200. It rips pretty much everything including 4k. With a decent computer, you would spent the same amount of time ripping each movies as if you we’re downloading them into the kaleidescape. Sorry I can’t justify paying $9000 for something you can do yourself that someone is doing the same thing to sell their product. How do you think the people of Kaleidoscape rips their movies? It’s pretty much the same essence. It has nothing to do with not being able to afford it for me but a gimmick for the enthusiasts.
