To be fair this entire chapter is purposely goofy. Let's not forget these robots are built by cute fluffy mascot engineers who are otaku that dress them in maid outfits.

Again, I really, really love Zeke and Pandoria. I especially like how Pandy perfectly imitates Zeke's ridiculous Super Sentai-esque gesturing. Also, his battle theme, appropriately titled ''Bringer of Chaos! Ultimate'' is amazing.
What's even more impressive imo is that if you look reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally close, you can see Pandy being *slightly* off tempo, which points to her posing being completely reactionary of Zeke's, implying just how much they've practiced this gig lmao

The most *MeTaL* moment in the game (Lila plunging her hand into her own chest, ripping the control unit out, and crushing it out of spite), followed by the most Super Sentai moment in the game.
This episode had like six midrolls for me, maybe seven... I don't know if it's chugga was the reason why since I've heard youtube sometimes just inserts midrolls even when you tell it not too, but still.
As if Zeke merely existing wasn't funny enough, Mythra slapping Rex at 7:04 might actually be a reference to something. Xenogears was one of, if not THE, first JRPG to do the whole screen shatter transition into battle thing (which was chosen specifically for thematic relevance), so yes, Xeno is so good at honoring its history that even Mythra being embarrassed by a dick joke is part of it.
There's another RPG (IIRC) that does the screen shattering but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I know it wasn't Xenogears but it's killing me because I don't remember it.

I'm sure a lot of people were waiting for Chugga to get to this Zeke scene. I wonder what it felt like to have an early copy of the game and not being able to tell people about this scene? Translating jokes is hard. You know what's worse? When a joke comes back later on, in a plot-relevant context, and has a THIRD meaning that also has to work in the translation. Ace Attorney does this pretty often, foreshadowing major revelations within what seems like one-off jokes.
@@NimonoSolenze Well, a big one is "Gravely roast the Master in the fires of hades" in Trails and Tribulations. This one's kind of awkward in both Japanese and English, and imo I actually like the English one better. In Japanese, the note said to give the Master "magnificent burial rites" or something, which is "karei indou", which got misread as "Indian curry". In English, "gravely roast" is misread as "gravy roast". In both cases, an order to kill someone is misinterpreted as smearing food on a hanging scroll because the one who reads it is a young child. (It makes sense in context)

4:53 This. Cutscene. Is a lovely display of sheer comedy and Zekenation. Nia's snark alongside Dromarch's sass makes for some absolutely SAVAGE lines, Zeke's sheer ego also adds to the comedy, and even Pandoria, Zeke's Blade, is throwing punches at him! And then Nia throws a cyclops joke that is, apparently, an innuendo, and I don't know why... (After looking at the comments... Yeeeah.) And then the transition of Mythra slapping Rex, causing him to break the camera, leading to the fight... Everything in this scene is so well done! And I haven't even played the game, either.
I love how everyone freezes up and reacts to the innuendo... except Poppi and Tora in the background. They don't react at all and look a bit confused because they're too innocent to get the joke.
As always, storyboarding, posing and physical acting (well, "physical acting" by character models) are all excellent but I gotta say, hearing a Tirkin talk still weirds me out.
This is why this chapter is my favorite; its fun, not taking itself too seriously, yet it's all still connected to the overall plot. And the very end of the chapter, we get more/new plot related stuff concerning Jin and others. It left me wanting to know more

A thing funny for me watching these videos of Chuggaaconroy doing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is that while I was playing through the game, he changed the way I played it, making me think about how to make the characters into their best ways possible

I mean Rose wasn't really evil. If anything he's actually quite the flattering portrayal of rich dudes in charge of energy companies in that he genuinely wants to save his country from the incoming energy crisis, but his proposed solution was short-sighted and dangerous. Compare him with the last few Pokemon villains, and he actually seems REALLY sympathetic. We can both agree that Bana is much more evil than him, though. This guy's just a shitty war profiteer.
@@cameroncooper5941 "Short-sighted" in the sense that he overlooked the long-term consequences of using one of the most powerful beings in the world, one which almost destroyed the continent they lived on and had to be put down by two big dogs, as a battery.
Bana is deliberately written to be like a Saturday-morning-cartoon type villain and they embrace it with his shenanigans and scenes like him going into Rosa. Rose was supposed to be an actual threat but he just falls flat in every way with how stupid his plan was and how his character wasn't appropriately set up to him leading into becoming a villain.
Episode Highlight #42: 15:35 Realizing he didn't discover the skip travel point and has to backtrack to that spot. That's happened to all of us, let's be honest. Also, shoutouts to the track that sounds like Brawl's main theme, or at least its intro. I noticed this as well and was reminded of it today, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this. Also, a beautiful touching moment with Tora finally reuniting with his father. The artificial blades have a good development too, but we'll see more of that next time. And hey, can't forget the return of Shellhead! Too bad he ended up blasting off again.

Ho ho, we got to see 3 of my favourite scenes here, the "One-Eyed Monster" scene, the reunion of Tora with his Dadapon, and Lila rejecting Bana's control. This chapter was a rollercoaster of emotions, and boy, cant wait for the next one

I GOTTA GO THIS FAR BACK?" ...Then came back and saw that the landmark for this area just required me to progress for about five more seconds. The moment I saw you notice that little ledge, all I could say was _"don't do it"_
for those to young to understand, Rosa's activation sequence is a Mazinger Z reference (almost 1 to 1 to the original activation)... the moment I saw it I almost choked of laughter
My god, I love this Zeke scene so much. Just the banter between Nia and Zeke and Pandoria is amazing. Then how Mythra slapped Rex into the camera after asking why she was blushing over a duck joke and it transitions into the battle, just beautiful. I also really love this side plot of Bana and Muimui being evil schemers and stealing Tora’s dad to make droids as a war profiteering scheme between Tora, Mor Ardain, and Uraya. Partly because Bana’s and Muimui’s personalities are so goofly evil. It’s like watching Disney Villains or Team Rocket. Also because the scene of Tora and his dad and Poppi and her “sister” Lila are super heart warming.

@@locoludwin3228 If I remember correctly they said they couldn't see his body, and that might as well be short hand for "they aren't dead" because of how often it gets used in fake out deaths. Plus I believe in the adage that if they die off screen they aren't dead, and if they die on screen they might still come back. Resurrections and absurd fake outs happen all the time in storytelling, I've come to be sceptical of character deaths. As one final point, I was thinking of them as a team rocket type comic relief duo (trio) if you think about it, team rocket should be dead many times over with how often they blow up, get electrocuted, and fall from absurd heights, but very few people actually question how they're still alive. And branching off of the team rocket point, I was expecting them to be recurring characters, there to be funny and be a sort of laughable obstacle who would take themselves out everytime, I had thought about them a few times after their first appearance as i really liked them as characters, and wanted to see more of them, I held onto hope until I thought enough time had passed that they actually were going to just be one-offs, coincidentally right before they came back.

Hey chuggaa, I hope you don’t feel bad about taking a break from uploading, given how insane this year was for everyone, it’s understandable. Glad to see you back though, your videos have been an essential part of my daily routine for nearly a decade now
It's time for some classic Super Robot history! This whole chapter with Tora's family is full of references to the Super mecha genre and I hope that Chugga sees this comment and brings up the references to classic series that Takahashi is a well known fan of. First thing first, the whole Grandfather, Father, Son relationship shown with Tora is pretty clearly a reference to Go Nagai's Mazinger series with the super genius grandfather inventing the Mazinger Z a robot used by his grandson to protect the world from mechanical beasts. Tora trying to save his father and put an end to the army of artificial blades produced by Bana is a pretty clear parallel to the series and is far from the only one in this chapter. (We should see the other in an Ep or two but just keep in mind the phrase "Mazin Go") Next there is Lila pulling out the Control device. This is a pretty famous one referenced a lot but it's the end of the Getter Robo manga by Ken Ishikawa. Not to spoil anything too major here but at the end of the manga the pilot pulls out the core of the robot in pretty much the exact same way. Still Lila being associated with Getter Robo is pretty important for the last little reference Lastly Poppi trying to destroy Lila with her shield drill is almost a shot for shot recreation of Gurren Lagann signature attack (although mirrored in this case). Gurren Lagann being the mecha series that most people would know about due to being more modern I'm sure most people saw this and might have thought of the series BUT what really makes this stand out is Gurren Lagann took a lot of it's inspiration from old mecha series, most notably Getter Robo with both mechs being red while powered on a green energy source related to evolution. So in a way you can view that moment as Gurren Lagann vs Getter Robo with the newer series overcoming the older one and once again something else in an ep or two. Anyways I hope this isn't too much of a pain to read and as much as I didn't like this chapter too much when I played it I at least enjoyed it being a small love letter to a genre I enjoy.
Yes, you hit so much of it as close to the center of the target that I can think of, personally I would think of the battle between Lila and Poppi being closer to the Getter vs Copy Getter fights that happen in a lot of getter media like shin vs metal beast dragon or Getter robo vs Devolved G (Devolution) but yes you hit so much of it right on the head, I hope to see a lot more in the coming episodes especially throwing in the signature “ROCKETTO PANCHI!”

I really DO wish that Lila was a dark element artificial blade that tora could use if it be after the factory segment or a quest to unlock her and she’d be the fourth artificial blade tora could have switch between with one of the versions of poppi (or a poppi qt constume was EXACTLY like how Lila looks like just voice and element being the same because weapon is the same as Lila’s)

Skipping this installment of “Things Emile Missed” because while things (mostly Troves) certainly were missed, they require more exploration around the Plant’s plumbing pipes and the Old Industrial District that Emile didn’t look at in his rush to get through to the Hot Pipe District. For now I’ll just encourage exploring these areas more throughly than he did. Fall down holes, explore side passages, go down stairs (especially in the area before the bridge landmark). You can clear out the Old Industrial District and the plumbing pipes (if you lack the field skills, get creative and approach the area from a different angle) all right now and discover some locations for some added BEXP too. 1:00 I wonder if that’s a jab at the fact that you never fully explore the Mor Ardain Titan. Everywhere you go is located on its shoulder area. 4:42 Again, you don’t need that key. The only requirements you need to get from the start of the Old Industrial District to the Hot Pipe District are the Fire and Wind Mastery Level 2 skills. That or some luck as you can exit early to a hangar full of Arachnos that takes you about halfway through the wastes filled with Level 80 monsters. That key that the UM Igna was guarding is only relevant to a later quest. You didn’t think a measly fall would put an end to the Zekenator, did you? 5:48 Pandoria’s first cutscene line! Also showing how much of a comedic duo. Also you can get a little glimpse of her eyes before she facepalms. 6:25 Now, who said anything about eyesight? “Furry-ears”. Is that technically racist in-universe? 7:00 I’m beginning to think the “boing” sound effect was deliberate. Yeah, even Skye wished she could have redone that “Shut up!” Said as much during her stream of this game, which goes to show that sometimes instances of bad reads aren’t really within the VAs control and that VAs sometimes unjustly take the heat for those instances regardless (or worse is when they do such a job at selling a despicable character that they take all the flack for said character’s actions because some people can’t discern fiction from reality). After all, it’s the voice director who calls the shots and what sort of deliveries they want out of the VAs. 8:50 Following up on yesterday’s tutorial lecture (hope you took notes), if you know you’re heading into a boss fight, it might be worth grinding up your party gauge on some nearby enemies so that you can go for an Overkill bonus and reap the increased rewards. 9:17 Oh yeah, because that worked out so well last time. This area is available to explore after your first encounter with Muimui. Pretty much the entire Titan is, really, save for most of the Palace grounds and a few areas higher up in elevation), this barrel will not be present, so you can’t sneak into the Old Factory before you’re required to. 15:38 Yup! You gotta get up to the window that they were talking about in the cutscene to trigger this fast travel point. This in tandem with the last note is to ensure that you do not skip the second Zeke fight by just fast traveling straight to the Old Factory, so take heed before jumping down! 16:20 Oh yeah, when these places are called “Old” and “Ruined”, they mean it. Just like on the Ancient Vessel you have panels and walkways that will collapse under your feet at even the slightest touch. You can’t jump off this catwalk, not yet anyways. First time we’re hearing a Tirkin talk. I believe they’re the only tribal humanoids who can speak in the modern tongue in this game. Don’t believe Ignas ever do. 21:40 First reunion she’s witnessed in 500 years. No wonder she’s gotten emotional. Also helps to show that Mythra’s perfectly capable of not being abrasive around Rex. Emotions are probably running high for our Nopon friend, but I find it a little funny that Tora was able to easily correct Umon on Rex and co. being his actual friends and not just sidekicks and yet here he’s having some trouble telling Tatazo that same thing. 22:05 And just like Umon, Tatazo is all too happy that Tora has such good friends or maybe even friends in general. Tora’s family did seem pretty reclusive in flashbacks and even when Tora was living in Torigoth before his fateful run-in with Rex, Pyra, and Gramps. A small little detail, I like Poppi’s smile when Tatazo recognizes her as an artificial Blade, though that smile’s likely due to seeing her Masterpon and his Dadapon finally seeing each other again after all these years of being apart and not knowing if the other’s even alive. 28:40 Oh that’s funny. I know they do a little dance in a follow-up cutscene that’s also great, but this is just too funny. 35:40 The people won’t stand for this corruption (funny how discovering the latest landmark led to this ending).

it's also worth noting that the instant you start the second fight with Zeke, Rex gets smacked with an attack the moment the fight is 'began'. not when Zeke or anybody else attacks, literally the first moment combat begins. it's an unnecessary attention to detail but that's what makes the second Zeke fight stand out to me.
Can I just say how much I love the music here? It's legitimately great, especially after you clear the area and are exploring it for whatever reason. Having no enemies and everything shut down really adds to the music's empty, mysterious feeling.
looking at Lila and Poppi now, they seem to take some 70's super robot cues in some parts of their designs, mostly the Ears which resemble the horns of Mazinger Z though if they're used for ice beams or thunder breaks is to be seen and Poppi's shield does seem to be referencing Getter 2/Getter Liger's drill (or at least everytime it's used I keep saying either "Change Liger!" or "Drill Hurricane!") and now Lila has what is apparently a signature attack of the Macross franchise which is the Macross Missile Massacre so I'm waiting to see if more come from these artificial blades especially with more coming soon it seems
Mor Ardain come from the Scottish word mór-àrdan which means great arrogance aka Pride. All of the titans are named in someway after the seven deadly sins.

I wanna say... I freaking love the story in the Abandoned Factory! Getting to see Poppi fight Lila one on one, seeing the wholesome and heartwarming moments of Tora reuniting with his father and then Tatazo believing there was still hope for Lila and then be proven right by Lila's rebellion, and the really funny mech activation scene we see with Bana and MuiMui. Oh, it is beautiful! Only thing that really bogs it down for me is the big boss at the end, but we'll see that soon enough...

As if Zeke merely existing wasn't funny enough, Mythra slapping Rex at 7:04 might actually be a reference to something. Xenogears was one of, if not THE, first JRPG to do the whole screen shatter transition into battle thing (which was chosen specifically for thematic relevance), so yes, Xeno is so good at honoring its history that even Mythra being embarrassed by a dick joke is part of it.

Translating jokes is hard. You know what's worse? When a joke comes back later on, in a plot-relevant context, and has a THIRD meaning that also has to work in the translation. Ace Attorney does this pretty often, foreshadowing major revelations within what seems like one-off jokes.

@@NimonoSolenze Well, a big one is "Gravely roast the Master in the fires of hades" in Trails and Tribulations. This one's kind of awkward in both Japanese and English, and imo I actually like the English one better. In Japanese, the note said to give the Master "magnificent burial rites" or something, which is "karei indou", which got misread as "Indian curry". In English, "gravely roast" is misread as "gravy roast". In both cases, an order to kill someone is misinterpreted as smearing food on a hanging scroll because the one who reads it is a young child. (It makes sense in context)

Nia's snark alongside Dromarch's sass makes for some absolutely SAVAGE lines, Zeke's sheer ego also adds to the comedy, and even Pandoria, Zeke's Blade, is throwing punches at him! And then Nia throws a cyclops joke that is, apparently, an innuendo, and I don't know why... (After looking at the comments... Yeeeah.) And then the transition of Mythra slapping Rex, causing him to break the camera, leading to the fight...
Everything in this scene is so well done! And I haven't even played the game, either.
It was a beautifully done moment of Zeke and out heroes.
I love how everyone freezes up and reacts to the innuendo... except Poppi and Tora in the background. They don't react at all and look a bit confused because they're too innocent to get the joke.

Chairman Rose should really take a page from Chairman Bana's book about being an evil businessman.
I mean Rose wasn't really evil. If anything he's actually quite the flattering portrayal of rich dudes in charge of energy companies in that he genuinely wants to save his country from the incoming energy crisis, but his proposed solution was short-sighted and dangerous. Compare him with the last few Pokemon villains, and he actually seems REALLY sympathetic.
We can both agree that Bana is much more evil than him, though. This guy's just a shitty war profiteer.

Virgin Rose vs Chad Bana
Bana is deliberately written to be like a Saturday-morning-cartoon type villain and they embrace it with his shenanigans and scenes like him going into Rosa. Rose was supposed to be an actual threat but he just falls flat in every way with how stupid his plan was and how his character wasn't appropriately set up to him leading into becoming a villain.
I love How Pandoria knows when to duck away from Zeke's massive compensator when hes pontificating.

Episode Highlight #42: 15:35 Realizing he didn't discover the skip travel point and has to backtrack to that spot. That's happened to all of us, let's be honest.
Also, shoutouts to the track that sounds like Brawl's main theme, or at least its intro. I noticed this as well and was reminded of it today, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this.
Also, a beautiful touching moment with Tora finally reuniting with his father. The artificial blades have a good development too, but we'll see more of that next time.

This new major area is introduced in the cutscene as the 'ABANDONED Factory'. This is actually an incorrect name- it is in fact called by all other in game sources the 'OLD Factory'.
Maybe that's because very soon after discovering the area, the characters realize it's not abandoned? But when they first walk in they think it is?

My god, I love this Zeke scene so much. Just the banter between Nia and Zeke and Pandoria is amazing. Then how Mythra slapped Rex into the camera after asking why she was blushing over a duck joke and it transitions into the battle, just beautiful.
I also really love this side plot of Bana and Muimui being evil schemers and stealing Tora’s dad to make droids as a war profiteering scheme between Tora, Mor Ardain, and Uraya. Partly because Bana’s and Muimui’s personalities are so goofly evil. It’s like watching Disney Villains or Team Rocket. Also because the scene of Tora and his dad and Poppi and her “sister” Lila are super heart warming.

@@locoludwin3228 If I remember correctly they said they couldn't see his body, and that might as well be short hand for "they aren't dead" because of how often it gets used in fake out deaths. Plus I believe in the adage that if they die off screen they aren't dead, and if they die on screen they might still come back. Resurrections and absurd fake outs happen all the time in storytelling, I've come to be sceptical of character deaths. As one final point, I was thinking of them as a team rocket type comic relief duo (trio) if you think about it, team rocket should be dead many times over with how often they blow up, get electrocuted, and fall from absurd heights, but very few people actually question how they're still alive. And branching off of the team rocket point, I was expecting them to be recurring characters, there to be funny and be a sort of laughable obstacle who would take themselves out everytime, I had thought about them a few times after their first appearance as i really liked them as characters, and wanted to see more of them, I held onto hope until I thought enough time had passed that they actually were going to just be one-offs, coincidentally right before they came back.

It's time for some classic Super Robot history! This whole chapter with Tora's family is full of references to the Super mecha genre and I hope that Chugga sees this comment and brings up the references to classic series that Takahashi is a well known fan of.
First thing first, the whole Grandfather, Father, Son relationship shown with Tora is pretty clearly a reference to Go Nagai's Mazinger series with the super genius grandfather inventing the Mazinger Z a robot used by his grandson to protect the world from mechanical beasts. Tora trying to save his father and put an end to the army of artificial blades produced by Bana is a pretty clear parallel to the series and is far from the only one in this chapter. (We should see the other in an Ep or two but just keep in mind the phrase "Mazin Go")
Next there is Lila pulling out the Control device. This is a pretty famous one referenced a lot but it's the end of the Getter Robo manga by Ken Ishikawa. Not to spoil anything too major here but at the end of the manga the pilot pulls out the core of the robot in pretty much the exact same way. Still Lila being associated with Getter Robo is pretty important for the last little reference
Lastly Poppi trying to destroy Lila with her shield drill is almost a shot for shot recreation of Gurren Lagann signature attack (although mirrored in this case). Gurren Lagann being the mecha series that most people would know about due to being more modern I'm sure most people saw this and might have thought of the series BUT what really makes this stand out is Gurren Lagann took a lot of it's inspiration from old mecha series, most notably Getter Robo with both mechs being red while powered on a green energy source related to evolution. So in a way you can view that moment as Gurren Lagann vs Getter Robo with the newer series overcoming the older one and once again something else in an ep or two.
Anyways I hope this isn't too much of a pain to read and as much as I didn't like this chapter too much when I played it I at least enjoyed it being a small love letter to a genre I enjoy.
Yes, you hit so much of it as close to the center of the target that I can think of, personally I would think of the battle between Lila and Poppi being closer to the Getter vs Copy Getter fights that happen in a lot of getter media like shin vs metal beast dragon or Getter robo vs Devolved G (Devolution) but yes you hit so much of it right on the head, I hope to see a lot more in the coming episodes especially throwing in the signature “ROCKETTO PANCHI!”

Skipping this installment of “Things Emile Missed” because while things (mostly Troves) certainly were missed, they require more exploration around the Plant’s plumbing pipes and the Old Industrial District that Emile didn’t look at in his rush to get through to the Hot Pipe District. For now I’ll just encourage exploring these areas more throughly than he did. Fall down holes, explore side passages, go down stairs (especially in the area before the bridge landmark). You can clear out the Old Industrial District and the plumbing pipes (if you lack the field skills, get creative and approach the area from a different angle) all right now and discover some locations for some added BEXP too.

Yeah, even Skye wished she could have redone that “Shut up!” Said as much during her stream of this game, which goes to show that sometimes instances of bad reads aren’t really within the VAs control and that VAs sometimes unjustly take the heat for those instances regardless (or worse is when they do such a job at selling a despicable character that they take all the flack for said character’s actions because some people can’t discern fiction from reality). Emotions are probably running high for our Nopon friend, but I find it a little funny that Tora was able to easily correct Umon on Rex and co. being his actual friends and not just sidekicks and yet here he’s having some trouble telling Tatazo that same thing.

A small little detail, I like Poppi’s smile when Tatazo recognizes her as an artificial Blade, though that smile’s likely due to seeing her Masterpon and his Dadapon finally seeing each other again after all these years of being apart and not knowing if the other’s even alive.

it's also worth noting that the instant you start the second fight with Zeke, Rex gets smacked with an attack the moment the fight is 'began'. not when Zeke or anybody else attacks, literally the first moment combat begins. it's an unnecessary attention to detail but that's what makes the second Zeke fight stand out to me.
Can I just say how much I love the music here? It's legitimately great, especially after you clear the area and are exploring it for whatever reason. Having no enemies and everything shut down really adds to the music's empty, mysterious feeling.
looking at Lila and Poppi now, they seem to take some 70's super robot cues in some parts of their designs, mostly the Ears which resemble the horns of Mazinger Z though if they're used for ice beams or thunder breaks is to be seen and Poppi's shield does seem to be referencing Getter 2/Getter Liger's drill (or at least everytime it's used I keep saying either "Change Liger!" or "Drill Hurricane!") and now Lila has what is apparently a signature attack of the Macross franchise which is the Macross Missile Massacre so I'm waiting to see if more come from these artificial blades especially with more coming soon it seems

I wanna say... I freaking love the story in the Abandoned Factory! Getting to see Poppi fight Lila one on one, seeing the wholesome and heartwarming moments of Tora reuniting with his father and then Tatazo believing there was still hope for Lila and then be proven right by Lila's rebellion, and the really funny mech activation scene we see with Bana and MuiMui. Oh, it is beautiful!
Only thing that really bogs it down for me is the big boss at the end, but we'll see that soon enough...
