Dick Clark is such a gentleman. He's kind, respectful and has just the right amount of praise and curiosity for artists. He was a one of a kind champion of the arts.
All in all, this was a decent interview. I'm a lifelong DEVO fan (since 1980), and I have absolutely no problem with this interview. Mr. Clark was respectful, and DEVO's answers were, well, typical and appropriate. Don't read too much into this, folks!
Dick Clark was usually pretty good with the weird bands. He was great with Sparks too. For someone who seems like a bit of a square, he dealt with the eccentrics well and with respect.
I know right. I was too busy staring at their Red Pots on their head. I loved their Red Pots. And I loved dancing to Whip It. I loved their unique style, during that time🙋🏾♀️
Jerry said during an interview that they are not flower pots. There are no drainage holes and they tip over too easily. They have been used as JELLO moulds and even as an autojohn.
Yes I remember the grand ole days of great Television📺 Some of us had only a few Stations, however we could find something to watched that was entertaining on each Station. Fast forwarded to our time now in the 21st Century. So many Stations and their are hardly anything worth watching. Reality Television = worse in Television History🤦🏾♀️
I respect that they stuck to their persona. They weren’t the best fit for American Bandstand, but this was a time when there were a lot less outlets to present yourself nationally and get the word out. The only major network tv show I can imagine them being a good fit was Letterman, and I’m not sure he was even hosting in 1980. They really were lightyears ahead of their time.
There's and episode of Rig Rundown with Bob1 and Bob2 here on TH-cam filmed shortly before Bob2 died. When he was really talking into the mic he had a big deep booming voice. I do wonder what his vocals would've been like if put front and center.
@ 1:16 till 1:30 Dick Clark says is this the Future. Devo responded back saying now is the Future. Heck I am wanting to be removed from the 21st Century Future. And I wished that we had a Time Machine to zoomed me back into the 20th Century Pass🙋🏾♀️
The two are mutually exclusive..they were (at that time..even now lol) the future of music..but they were declaring or bringing attention to the "devolution" of mankind...
A band that could see ahead into the future, and it did all come true.
"We do answer, but nobody believes us." Devo in a nutshell..
Devolution ! They were right. They are the future. Love them. Beautiful world

"I know what kind of interview I'm in for" (as he face palms). Gotta love it!
Waaaaaaaay ahead of their time.
I sorta think of them as outside of time. If they were ahead of their time you'd think somebody would be like them by now.
They’re all very handsome. I somehow couldn’t see that back in the 80s. Maybe because of the flower pots on their heads.
I know right. I was too busy staring at their Red Pots on their head. I loved their Red Pots. And I loved dancing to Whip It. I loved their unique style, during that time🙋🏾♀️
@@lastdays3148 They're not flower pots or Red Pots, they're Energy Domes.

@@stratocasterguy I’ll call them flower pots and you’ll like it.
@@rbeygarcia ok, Dad.
Why couldn’t Clark handle these guys, they’re great... and they WERE the future. Duty Now for the Future.
This band deserves to be in the hall of fame
back when television was worth watching.
It's cool to see these guys being themselves
Dennis the menace The good ol' days huh? Let me tell you there were never The good ol' days!!!!

LEGENDS!

They were on Letterman several times. Always a joy to watch the after-performance interview.
Dave was a dick to DEVO!
Every man woman and mutant should see this
Dick Clark really got it !!!
Nice to hear Bob 2 talk. I'd love to hear more from the Bobs and Alan.

I saw this when it first aired. What a mindblow!
"Now *IS* the future!"
Way to think on your feet!

Now it can be told: DEVO was the most influent post-punk band EVER
Actually... that was pretty dang cool.
The men responsible for the music on "Rugrats".
I'm probably missing it, but is there footage of their AB performance just before the interview?
They did Snowball.
Now is the future! - Devo
Actually it means, an event or situation that was predicted has just occurred.
bob 1 has some good insights here
❤❤❤❤
Cant believe it most of the band members are shy
It’s not they are shy, Bob 1 just kinda does that on purpose I think, Alan didn’t get much spot light to be honest
And very personable and kind. The nicest people you'll ever meet. Unfortunately, Bob 2 and
Alan are no longer with us
Young Gerald C remind me a LOT of Edward Norton!!!!
That's absurd/funny/devo
Its duty now for the future, Dick!
Why did Dick ask "is this the future" and later declare it futuristic; they are about DE-evolution, duh!
The two are mutually exclusive..they were (at that time..even now lol) the future of music..but they were declaring or bringing attention to the "devolution" of mankind...
Dick Clark was always a square.
Almost.....HUMAN!
bob mothersbaugh was not into that at all.......i think he knew clark was just a bag of hot air.......
bunch of spuds..
I can't get no!!!!
Only thing more icky than Dick Clark's smarmy style were Devo's red shoes. You're not in the Vatican, boys.
For brisk locomotion, Energy Shoes are required attire as Energy Domes are.
I could never stand Dick Clark interviews. Asking Bob 1 twice to speak was very unprofessional.
Um. . . why?
