    This filter does not fit with the multiple setup rings from my matte box. There is a mini ring I removed from the included freewell adapters it fit to the Smallrig step up... And no longer mounts back to the filter.
    Tried the 92 to 82mm step up long for the Matte box and it was slightly different then the filters 82mm thread???
    Haida filter on Amazon has the outside thread that allowed me to know what lens to buy plus I purchased a 58mm to 67mm step up ring for the Haida 67mm filter no problem. What gives Freewell?

      @@6969SpAcE6969 you have to buy the adapters separately. All my lense filters before and after this I have reviewed are cheaper yet allow a lens hood. The K&F true color I reviewed is just as good... All filters have been out of pocket cost

      The K&F is only 1-5 stops though but means you can use it in less light as well.

    One of the primary functions of a matte box is to insert filters rather than screw on round filters to the front of the matte box because you can't really reach to operate them properly in a professional setting. Use the Freewell without a matte box and it's fantastic. But... I just tested my SmallRig compact matte box and the Freewell V2 mounting ring DOES fit on the 82mm mounting ring and the magnetic half does fit in there. It works ok but I was unable to tighten the screw(s) to secure it. Sure it works if I were really in a jam and needed to shade the lens, using only that VND and didn't have a filter insert for the matte box like they're designed. Definitely not ideal but that's not Freewell's fault. I was also wondering why you were screwing on the front magnetic portion of the Freewell to the mounting ring? It just pops on with the magnet, then you tighten the side screw to secure it. I actually only use 1 screw since it's much faster to swap on and off and to rotate it for... BONUS! Did you realize you can turn the whole filter to get a circular polarizer effect?? 2 filters in 1! Or even more when you consider the variable ND range.

      @@wiezyckifamily thank you for your input, I feel being able to protect a filter in use is important, it rained lightly when I did my batman movie. It would have ruined my video work.
      I know you turn it without locking to change the CPL but thank you for mentioning since I did not and give myself 1 hour to throw this together before boxing and returning.
      This was to state the negatives not how to use it but I dislike stating negatives alone so I wanted to say some of the good before returning it. All the type with zero negatives in any review was annoying me cause nobody was stating what could be a concern to consider. I wasn't at all happy, it rains about 170 days of the year where I live and a VND/CPL is for outside work.
      I reviewed 2 different CPL / VND in one filters without issue in my particular smallrig matte box and both have a lens hood that fits but more than anything the lens cap was the best option. Didn't you notice the freewell attracts dust like magnetic to dust? My filter also scratched very very easily unless you always use only their included cleaning cloth or a very soft cleaning cloth. There was no reason for house dust and Ziese lens wipes to scratch my filter but it did.
      I love the color accuracy of the freewell but the K&F true color is also accurate and is less than half the price BUT is 1-5 VND not the 3-7. The freewell color accuracy is totally superior to the Haida Pro ii and Freewell seemed to have an HD coating? It enhanced the grain of my Fujifilm X-S20 camera. For a regular person using the freewell without protection I don't think it is a good choice for long term use. For a production it's replaceable without hurting too much.

      Purchased 2 K&F filters (second copy was better than the first), purchased 2 Haida, and the 1 Freewell. Of the filters I only returned the Freewell. I sold off everything other than the K&F. I almost purchased the NiSi but the CPL is HUGE it takes back the contrast in sunlight and removes haze in the distance.

    Thanks for your honest and helpful content. In terms of quality when shooting a video, how does the Freewell V2 VND + CPL compare to the Haida CPL+ VND when it comes to optical quality, color shift, vignette and X - pattern?

    • @sparkestudio
      @sparkestudio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My plan is to get a review of the Haida V2 done in about 1 to 2 weeks time. It has been raining here a lot.The Haida V2 has a small color shift when applied ibut it makes the movie look great when corrected using a color checker,. Been working on movies, the Tech channel stuff. Yesterday on the batman movie, today the batman movie, tomorrow the batman movie... Going to try and complete my boom pole review which is nearly done. It's cloudy and raining here a LOT. Great for Batman not good for testing a CPL filter.

      That's great. I'm looking to buy one of these two, but I don't know which one to choose when it comes to better quality. It's a pity about the lack of a lens hood for the Freewell because I have the feeling that quality and colorwise it is probably better than the Haida. I'll wait for your review to decide. It would be very helpful if you could compare them in your review as well. Good luck with your movie and thanks for your reply :)

      @@AA-uu8ox it'll round up the nain differences. Fact is optical quality itself I cannot see ANY Freewell advantage. • @sparkestudio

      No it does not according to Freewell online. The Eiger system uses specific flat, no ring around them type filters. I was using the Smallrig Mini Matte Box Lite.
      sadly my new K&F concept 58 true color VND + CPL filter won't arrive in time to review before I leave town for work. In early may I'll have that review done, I am out of town until May 2nd. I also reviewed the Haida 2 in 1 filter. The Haida can have notable color shift, the darker it is or less blue light the more the shift. I am hoping the K&F is going to be comparable while also like the Haida allow a lens hood.

      @sparkestudio  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hopkinsfilms i would have liked a bit higher VND like the freewell BUT even 1 to 5 stops is a huge improvement. Both the new Sony cameras and Fujifilm with their newer f-log modes let in too much light. Without the VND my X-S20 is horrible in bright light but 5 stops is usable. K&F has a true color with higher stops as well, but I haven't tried.
      The 1 to 5 stops are great so removal isn't required as day light is reduced. I'm happy with the results... But not so much with the "out of box" before cleaning results. All my footage was washed out with lots of flaring... Basically not that sharp until I cleaned it. Was completely new in the package.

    • @sparkestudio
      @sparkestudio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your input stkuj. For the price and quality this system is very good optically if you don't color grade and do color checking Freewell 100%.
      If doing serious work where money is involved with production schedules I'd go with the Freewell Eiger matte box system (Far higher cost) but a far better system.
      Where I live it rains, even one rain drop is going to ruin a movie production Freewell V2 is a fail! Also scratches far too easily compared to the Haida. The Freewell does indeed feel more premium with no free floating CPL, that makes the Haida a bit sloppy and cheap but worked beautifully in the making of my Batman movie.

      I prefer the Haida, you can protect it. The Haida is likely to last far longer and scratched less. I should have my review of the Haida in a few days, been busy I have a list of items I'm reviewing all at the same time between both channels but I finally just now finished my Batman movie... All made with the Haida filter BUT there is one very real concern, color shift. I use a color checker but color tones still change slightly but I actually like it cause it adds extra contrast pop.
