Ukraine Invites Mothers of Prisoners of War to Pick Them Up

  • Captured Russian soldiers are sending tearful messages to their families back home as the grim reality of war is sinking in for the Russian people. One Russian POW recorded a message directly to his mother to reassure her he was still alive. “I want to say to my mom, ‘Wait for me. I will return,’” he said. Published reports say the Ukrainian Defense Ministry has even invited Russian mothers to come to the capital of Kyiv to pick up their captured sons and take them home.

It's the Russian government's way. They always sacrifice large numbers of their own soldiers during their initial push into any given war. Even recent wars like when they invaded Georgia and Chechnya they had large casualties in first few days. It's like the government doesn't value the lives of it's own soldiers. The just look at them as statistics. They're just the 5k soldiers they intended to lose during the start of their war in order to see what resistance they're gonna have. It's sad. Putin looks at his own soldiers as a number, so just imagine how much he cares about a foreigners life.

The only person losing face in this whole conflict is their leader and I don't think any amount of media control is going to change that.

This wasn't kindness and compassion the way you think it was. Yes, they didn't mistreat them and they did treat them like humans.
However... they've invited Russian mothers to enter the warzone, which has indiscriminate artillery and missile fire, to pick up their crying sons. Knowing these men would be considered derelicts at best or punished for not staying in the fight or remaining as a captor - relying on their comrades to liberate them once they took the city. This wasn't a humanitarian offer but a taunting offer. This was Ukraine's way of including regular Russian people in the war (similar to regular Ukrainians having to be a part of it), even if it was only a phone call to tell them "we have your son" and engage their emotions.

I don’t even know what to type. I’m so overwhelmed by Ukrainian peoples compassion and care… asking Russian soldiers mums to come get them… that just restores faith in humanity. Instead of torturing them or killing them, they rang their mums to come get them… I’m blown away. Much love to Ukraine. I really wish our governments would send you our army’s even if they did it covertly … stay strong… they can’t ignore us forever. 💙💛 xxxxxxx

Says alot of their nature and heart.

I respect how much compassion Ukraine is showing Russia even though Putin started this. The fact that the soldiers on both sides don't want to fight, seeing that elderly woman protest and fight for this to end, the news cast being blocked on tv by the govt, spoke volumes. If this situation isn't waking us up idk what is. I pray for these soldiers on both sides and that they both get to go back home and be in peace again.

Some of the mothers whose sons were captured will berate the commanding officers on the phone. One woman threatened to torture and kill her son's former commanding officer because of how enraged she was. That was after she found out her daughter got accepted into Trinity College in Ireland and they were gonna move. On Hannity, her daughter said, "Our mom will attack like a caged raccoon. She does not care." That mother said, "I'd do it again." Russian women have decorum, but they will go gangsta on somebody like nobody's business.
