The thing i love most about homelander is that he is actually pretty pathetic. When you boil down his character, he is just a massive bully who pushes others around and thinks he can do whatever he wants since he was BORN super powerful, which means he didnt have to do anything to earn that power. What you love about homelander makes him less interesting, less threatening, and literally destroys the entire plot of the show. Hes supposed to be so powerful that he is unstoppable, that no amount of training can compete with his natural power, and thats why everyone is afraid of him. Hes been mishandled so terribly by the writers that the first 2 seasons feel like a completely different show and are essentially noncanon, because they break the plot of the show. Why is anyone afraid of him if hes so weak? Turning homelander into a weak, incompetent coward is season 8 dany from got levels of shit writing.

HL being faliable and sensitive to certain things on a basic and pathetically childish level makes him all the more threatening and interesting in my opinion which is demonstrated by the show and even Gen V. It lends more unpredictability and tension to all his actions and those around him be they ally or enemy, we've seen him change and grow further down his arc pretty masterfully through characters like Ryan, Sage, and Deep of all people. In every moment where HL is reminded his litteral power can only get him so far and is humbled by circumstances like not knowing how to actually run a company or go about a fascist undertaking we see the character evolve in unique and horrifying ways. He is pathetic and at the end of the day most of his actions are inevitably self defeatist in some way or another but he is also persistent in a way that is a twisted inversion of the classic Superman's determination, every set back has lead to him learning or gaining something very powerful and dangerous for the heroes, again even in Gen V, he's become more subtle, cunning, and patient. Traits that only add to his menace and place in the plot while also serving to further undercut him and hightlight his flaws, and the franchise as a whole has never really treated him as without any weaknesses or defencies he's always been a bit of a loser and everything we've learned of him has doubled down on that.

Thing is, everyone says hes got no combat experience when that isnt necessarily true. queen maeve and soldier boy, both supes near his level, were exchanging equal blows with him, and he was holding up just fine against both of them. queen maeve, who was fighting him when he was already burnt out/demotivated. contrary to death battle, homelander was even using his shoulders to strike punches. homelander's incompetences get massively flanderized/assumed in power scaling fandoms because their favorite verse's power scalings are far more scuffed than the boys
The thing is, Maeve is still quite significantly weaker than Homelander, so even her training can't overcome the strength different. I will say people do just assume that Homelander can't beat anyone who's even close to his strength level, which isn't true. He was trained by Vought to be the world's strongest man since birth.

I like how everyone says homelander is soooo weak, but like, he’s holding back ALOT ALL THE TIME. Plus the show is different from the comics, and I hate when people reference the comics when comparing homelander with anyone because they’re not the same people. But I also think people like to compare because homelander is someone to be defeated. I mean, the franchise isn’t called homelander it’s called the boys; and the boys main goal is to kill homelander. He’s going to die, period. Just as an example we don’t know how strong his heat vision actually is. Could it cut the planet in half? Nah but it can cut a plane in half in about a second. It’s adjustable too, he’s able to adjust to say heat a cup of coffee, he’s able to heat up a gun or any object in someone’s hand without it going through them and of course just use it for a fraction of a second to pop someone’s head, just like it’s nothing. Or even his super speed, could he be faster than a-train? Maybe. We see in the diabolical finale, which IS canon to the show, he’s able to use super speed at an unbelievable level. Maybe if he faces A-Train we’ll get a moment like the live action justice league movie where Superman is able to see the flash running and is even faster than him. The way I predict it at least is when the virus is ready, they’re try to get A-train to kill him by running by him as fast as he can and inject the virus in him only for homelander to outspeed him and look at him slow motion style just to show who the most powerful supe is before killing A-train But I think it’s safe to say when homelander isn’t scared to show his powers at full strength with also the added on rage he’ll probably have when shit DOES go down in the boys season 5, he will be untouchable by everyone. supe or not. I think it's just because the way the show is set up. The show isn't based around action fight scenes so we don't see Homelander doing the kind of things you'd see Superman do in a DC movie. And people keep ignoring the abstract factors and reading too much into the show and over analyzing it. Some people genuinely think that Homelander would get taken out by high caliber bullets. They keep forgetting about the show budget and the fact that Homelander is supposed to be a Superman parallel, even if he doesn't have comparable feats.

Unless you can brace yourself against a very low ceiling or something. No matter how strong you are if you try biceps curling 500kg all that happens is you fall over.

I actually feel like Homelander and the "evil Superman" are opposites from a theme perspective. Superman isn't Superman, he's Clark Kent, he was given godlike powers because of the yellow Sun, but he was raised as an ordinary human by humble, open, compassionate people until he got his powers. Under the suit it's always been Clark despite the Kryptonian genetics and biochemistry. With the evil Superman being Superman where something went horribly wrong. But they're still Clark. Homelander was created in a laboratory, raised like an object rather than a human, turned into a corporate superweapon, craving desperately the affection of others, the validation of others, not out of fear or out of a willingness to deceive for their personal gain but genuine love. Under the suit it's always been Homelander, his origin story about being a kid who loved baseball is completely fake, unlike Clark's. Both are products of their environment, with nearly opposite stimuli.

Honestly, Homelander only seems weaker than he actually is, is because of the show’s limited budget in the action scenes. That’s all. I mean c’mon, saying Doc Ock and Batman can beat Homelander is just getting ridiculous. Batman has trouble with guns and knifes, Homelander survives Power Plant explosions point blank without a scratch. For example, in the Animated show “The Boys Diabolical”, there’s an episode which is canon to the live action show. And in that episode, Homelander’s strength, speed and durability feats are much more on display. Why? Because it’s easier to display those feats in animation. “And we know how Soldier Boy did Homelander”. Homelander was literally choking Soldier Boy out, he would’ve died if Butcher and Huey didn’t intervene, and if Soldier Boy can’t beat Homelander, someone like Doc Ock would have no show at all.
I've always disagreed with the idea of Homelander being physically "weak." I think people try to water him down because he makes them uncomfortable.... He's supposed to make you uncomfortable, that's how he's written. That's the point. In the comics he's just as strong as superman, and in the TV show he is almost the same. I always found this interesting.... Also, do keep in mind they can't show you how powerful Homelander really is in the show in a way that would align with his character. As Antony star said that if they made Homelander like he is in the graphic novels, anyone watching it would be in prison. It's not that he's physically weak, it's that the series can't really show you how powerful he actually is without making things a little too dark for mainstream media. Read the comics (only if your a mentally stable adult and can handle them) and then I think you'll see what they mean. I do believe we should see Homelander demonstrate more physical power, because I feel like for the reasons I just said, the show is holding him back a bit. I also feel like they don't want their viewers being so uncomfortable they have to click off and stop watching. It's never really bothered me and honestly I feel like we could do with even more dark themes and heavier stuff in the series. On average, HxH characters aren’t outrageously powerful compared to its shounen contemporaries. So I feel like matching him up against those is way more reasonable than what people usually do. Maybe he can be Meruem or if not Hisoka?

The thing i love most about homelander is that he is actually pretty pathetic. When you boil down his character, he is just a massive bully who pushes others around and thinks he can do whatever he wants since he was BORN super powerful, which means he didnt have to do anything to earn that power. What you love about homelander makes him less interesting, less threatening, and literally destroys the entire plot of the show. Hes supposed to be so powerful that he is unstoppable, that no amount of training can compete with his natural power, and thats why everyone is afraid of him. Hes been mishandled so terribly by the writers that the first 2 seasons feel like a completely different show and are essentially noncanon, because they break the plot of the show. Why is anyone afraid of him if hes so weak? Turning homelander into a weak, incompetent coward is season 8 dany from got levels of shit writing.

HL being faliable and sensitive to certain things on a basic and pathetically childish level makes him all the more threatening and interesting in my opinion which is demonstrated by the show and even Gen V.
It lends more unpredictability and tension to all his actions and those around him be they ally or enemy, we've seen him change and grow further down his arc pretty masterfully through characters like Ryan, Sage, and Deep of all people. In every moment where HL is reminded his litteral power can only get him so far and is humbled by circumstances like not knowing how to actually run a company or go about a fascist undertaking we see the character evolve in unique and horrifying ways.
He is pathetic and at the end of the day most of his actions are inevitably self defeatist in some way or another but he is also persistent in a way that is a twisted inversion of the classic Superman's determination, every set back has lead to him learning or gaining something very powerful and dangerous for the heroes, again even in Gen V, he's become more subtle, cunning, and patient. Traits that only add to his menace and place in the plot while also serving to further undercut him and hightlight his flaws, and the franchise as a whole has never really treated him as without any weaknesses or defencies he's always been a bit of a loser and everything we've learned of him has doubled down on that.

Thing is, everyone says hes got no combat experience when that isnt necessarily true. queen maeve and soldier boy, both supes near his level, were exchanging equal blows with him, and he was holding up just fine against both of them. queen maeve, who was fighting him when he was already burnt out/demotivated. contrary to death battle, homelander was even using his shoulders to strike punches.
homelander's incompetences get massively flanderized/assumed in power scaling fandoms because their favorite verse's power scalings are far more scuffed than the boys
The thing is, Maeve is still quite significantly weaker than Homelander, so even her training can't overcome the strength different. I will say people do just assume that Homelander can't beat anyone who's even close to his strength level, which isn't true. He was trained by Vought to be the world's strongest man since birth.

That's fair and I actually quite appreciate that, I praise Homelander even despite his abilities

But I also think people like to compare because homelander is someone to be defeated. I mean, the franchise isn’t called homelander it’s called the boys; and the boys main goal is to kill homelander. He’s going to die, period. Just as an example we don’t know how strong his heat vision actually is. Could it cut the planet in half? Nah but it can cut a plane in half in about a second. It’s adjustable too, he’s able to adjust to say heat a cup of coffee, he’s able to heat up a gun or any object in someone’s hand without it going through them and of course just use it for a fraction of a second to pop someone’s head, just like it’s nothing. Or even his super speed, could he be faster than a-train? Maybe. We see in the diabolical finale, which IS canon to the show, he’s able to use super speed at an unbelievable level. Maybe if he faces A-Train we’ll get a moment like the live action justice league movie where Superman is able to see the flash running and is even faster than him. The way I predict it at least is when the virus is ready, they’re try to get A-train to kill him by running by him as fast as he can and inject the virus in him only for homelander to outspeed him and look at him slow motion style just to show who the most powerful supe is before killing A-train
But I think it’s safe to say when homelander isn’t scared to show his powers at full strength with also the added on rage he’ll probably have when shit DOES go down in the boys season 5, he will be untouchable by everyone. supe or not. At least until they reveal how they’re going to kill him once and for all

why's nobody able to properly power scale homelander? its either they downplay, and give him obviously bad match ups (like this video) or they glaze him like he's kratos, he's extremely durable, doesn't know how to fight, has laser vision, can fly pretty fucking fast and is pretty fucking strong, its such a basic toolkit and yet nobody can seem to wrap their head around how strong it should be and who to match it up against
I think it's just because the way the show is set up. The show isn't based around action fight scenes so we don't see Homelander doing the kind of things you'd see Superman do in a DC movie. And people keep ignoring the abstract factors and reading too much into the show and over analyzing it. Some people genuinely think that Homelander would get taken out by high caliber bullets. They keep forgetting about the show budget and the fact that Homelander is supposed to be a Superman parallel, even if he doesn't have comparable feats.
I gave him matchups that while aren't good as his main MUs, still are commonly talked about and just used a benchmark as to what characters Homelander would lose against.

Unless you can brace yourself against a very low ceiling or something. No matter how strong you are if you try biceps curling 500kg all that happens is you fall over.

Honestly, Homelander only seems weaker than he actually is, is because of the show’s limited budget in the action scenes. That’s all.
I mean c’mon, saying Doc Ock and Batman can beat Homelander is just getting ridiculous. Batman has trouble with guns and knifes, Homelander survives Power Plant explosions point blank without a scratch.
For example, in the Animated show “The Boys Diabolical”, there’s an episode which is canon to the live action show. And in that episode, Homelander’s strength, speed and durability feats are much more on display. Why? Because it’s easier to display those feats in animation.

I've always disagreed with the idea of Homelander being physically "weak."
I think people try to water him down because he makes them uncomfortable.... He's supposed to make you uncomfortable, that's how he's written. That's the point. In the comics he's just as strong as superman, and in the TV show he is almost the same. I always found this interesting.... Also, do keep in mind they can't show you how powerful Homelander really is in the show in a way that would align with his character. As Antony star said that if they made Homelander like he is in the graphic novels, anyone watching it would be in prison. It's not that he's physically weak, it's that the series can't really show you how powerful he actually is without making things a little too dark for mainstream media. Read the comics (only if your a mentally stable adult and can handle them) and then I think you'll see what they mean. I do believe we should see Homelander demonstrate more physical power, because I feel like for the reasons I just said, the show is holding him back a bit. I also feel like they don't want their viewers being so uncomfortable they have to click off and stop watching. It's never really bothered me and honestly I feel like we could do with even more dark themes and heavier stuff in the series. But not everyone can handle that, so I think Amazon are just trying to be sensible.
