Took me 9 days to make! It was really fun to find the sources! Yet another one of my favorite logo histories I've done this year! This one is hugely inspired by TR3X, of course!
Note: This logo history will only contain the five main channels from Rai, which are Rai 1, Rai 2, Rai 3, Rai 4, and Rai 5. The main references for this video were Logopedia and the CLG Wiki (Miraheze). Captures are from TH-cam (with the 10th RAI ident from Vimeo), and most of the captures for the modern idents and some of the 80s idents come from the Bumper&Spot, Bruno TV, iBumper TV, TVItalia Story, Maxsimo57, and mDeplo TH-cam channels respectively. Those are only a few of the channels I have captured. I might add an end credit in the next logo history.

Founded as Unione Radiofonica Italiana in 1924, Radiotelevisione italiana is the national public broadcasting company of Italy, owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. They are headquartered in Rome, the capital city of Italy. RAI broadcasts are also received in surrounding countries, including Switzerland, France, and Monaco. Rai Uno (1) launched on 3rd January 1954, Rai Due (2) launched on 4th November 1961, Rai Tre (3) launched on 15th December 1979, Rai Quattro (4) launched on 14th July 2008, and Rai Cinque (5) launched on 26th November 2010.

What are your favorite idents from RAI?
Note: The startup ident from 1983 was apparently used until 2012, not 2011.
The 7th Logo Of Rai 3
The RAI (1993-2000), RAI Tre (2003-10) and RAI Five (2014-17) idents are my three top favourites, although most of the idents from RAI and their channels are favourites of mine (e.g. RAI 1985-88, RAI Uno 2003-10, RAI Uno-Due-Tre 1993-2000, etc).
Oh gosh, there are so many, but I would have to say the very first one (for RAI Uno ) with the clouds and the wonderful design floating upwards.

6:28 I think this logo has a metaphor of something, it goes like this:
This ball that goes through a giant sphere with squares carved into it might look like a flight crash, like how parachutes malfunction.
The tube shape and the text "RAIUNO" roughly resembles a gravestone with a name on it, and a picture of the ball is seen on the top right corner when the "gravestone" zooms out, possibly as a memory. The audio is in a G-Major chord, and the notes has a melancholic feel in it (some people also see it sad or depressing), as a sign of mourning. In conclusion, this logo is a tribute of a ball that broke into pieces and passed away when the crash happened.

You: My favorite idents from RAI is Rai 1.
Wow! This is an amazing ident history of radiotelevisione italiana (RAI), Jonty! Many of these RAI idents are pretty good, especially for an Italian TV station! Italy is an amazing country! Some of my favourite idents from RAI would be the RAI idents from 1983, 1985, the 1988 ident from the first division, and 1993-2000. However, the first ident from RAI Tre may be pretty boring because it's really long, but at least the skyscape does look nice and the music does sound relaxing. Also, TR3X used the RAI (1983-2011) typeface since February 2018, as he said.

Another great video Jonty! More idents from RAI I never saw before, like the ident at 1:36 for example.
I like how you featured the bumpers from RAI as well, especially the marshmallows bumper at 2:40 that I remembered well in 2018. The channels from RAI have many great idents, but three of my favourites are the RAI (1993-2000), RAI Tre (2003-10) and RAI Five (2014-17) idents. The typeface in the RAI logo (1983-2011) is still used in my videos since February 2018, since it's one of my favourite typefaces of all time. Looking forward to your logo history on the Open University! :-)
Thank you once again! The 1:36 ident is rather interesting. The music sounds like an old news intro. The marshmallows bumper has such awesome music. Wish there was an extended version of it. The animation is also great. I do agree with your favorites. The 1993 RAI ident has a catchy jingle, the 2003 Rai Tre ident looks like something from a video game, and the Rai 5 ident from 2014 is just simply beautiful! The Open University Logo History is gonna be quite fun to do, because I haven't done a logo history on a British company for a long time!
@@JontyMaster Talking of news intros, the piece in the TG1 intro has remained the same since the 1950s and has been re-recorded many times (TG1 is the flagship television newscast by Rai 1); the 1976-86 rendition was used in the Hokushin Video Movies logo in the 1980s. I agree with your other comments, and hearing an extended version of the music in the marshmallow bumper would be really epic.
I remember the TG1 theme very well. I also remember the Hokushin logo. I remember one variant of said logo had an announcer with a Maltese accent, who's actually Joe Gatt, the company's founder.

Great video as always! I sometimes look to you. Anyway, my favourite RAI idents would be 2010-2016 [2014 for 2 and 5]
But, the 1985-1988 idents was used as a project in 1985 and came to TV in 1986.
Also, the 1983 idents were used until 1986

Never knew the 1985 idents were introduced to TV in 1986, but this isn't a history on when they were first introduced to TV, this is a history of when they were introduced in general. I agree with your favorites, the 2010-2016 idents are well made and have beautiful music. More logo histories to come!
I don't know why, but the 1st logo in the video, with that intricate background illustration becoming a radio tower, it's calming.

Here's interesting fact about the Rai Due logos, more specifically between 1988 and 1993. Rai Due was the only channel to change the logo multiple times, while Rai Uno and Rai Tre had only one logo during the period between 1988 and 1993. Therefore, Rai Due was the only channel to change the ident multiple times the period between 1988 and 1993.

2:55 The logo isnt until 2011. Its until 2012 before 23 june 2012 after shutting down the analogue system and shutting down the ident and the test card.
Everyone makes mistakes...although the CLG Wiki says it's used until 2011.

The fun thing here is that Rai speedran gaining a boatload of channels. They had a 2nd and 3rd channel before 1985, and they have a 5th channel in operation, unlike the BBC.

No it was used for when rai Uno, rai due and Rai tre was used for a closedown or a startup.

La sigla 1977-1986 di fine e inizio trasmissioni è terrificante. I migliori bumper sono quelli dal 2000 al 2016 per Rai 1,2 e 3,mentre per Rai 4 mi piacciono dal 2008 al 2016. Per Rai 5 mi piacciono i bumper dal 2010 al 2016. Il bumper 1983-1985 è in realtà un 1983-1986.
In febbraio 1986 finalmente si sono sbarazzati di quella merda. e la sigla del 1986 è la migliore, la mia preferita e patriottica.
