True, especially with the BTR-82. It's cool-looking, but its armor is paper-thin.
maybe his hatches were open so it reduce overpressure
The tank was destroyed by FPV drone, theres a video from it, but overall confusion on battlefield is not as rare as one might think, it happens time to time, no so much after revolution in drones but still does. More so when you have similar vehicles and markings on them might not be visible, this is old millitary problem with comfirming frind or foe.
I’m amazed a drone can lift enough explosive or fly at a vast enough velocity to penetrate a MBT
@@notmenotme614 Its quit simple, HEAT warhead attached under the drone is enough, most popular choice is RPG warhead as there are tons of them. Then the operator just aims the drone on top of a tank where amor is thin.
@@notmenotme614 MBTs tend to be weak at the top and rear.
In this case the drone that filmed all this was operated by either side (I assume Ukraine but could be Russia as well).
So, if it was Ukrainian, why didn't the drone operators let the tanks know well in advance that a BTR was coming towards them? If they had, the tanks would have blasted it to pieces much earlier.
If it was a Russian drone, why didn't they tell the BTR, don't fucking go there, there are two enemy tanks pointing guns straight at you.
@@srelma Thats a good question, there can be multiple reasons on either side for this.
Its not common for the drone operator to be in a direct contact via radio with given group, so they will relay information to some HQ which then talks with subordinates. There could be issues with radio connection, electronic warfare devices, units loosing signal or getting too far from their own HQ which has certain distance for their radios.
There could be confusion even in HQ which asseses situation on the ground or even the drone operator mistaking vehicles on the ground.
Also it depends on overall battlefield, in Kursk it is more chaotic with no "fixed" borders of contact and soldiers can literally run next to the enemy, this tend to happen on assaults with lack of recon.
Even tho today we can use drones for far superior recon, people on the ground are pretty much blind about their surroundings until told, and it must be described very well if they dont know that area well enough. They still must confirm targets on sight to avoid friendly fire (in case of direct fire). We dont have a good picture either as we see only small part of the battlefield but there can be more armed formations in that area and possibly more drones which makes HQ work to give right info more difficult.
Man I love your deduction/analyze skills of spotting what tank/vehicle is what. Amazing.
If you look closely, you can see that both tanks seemed to be smoking. That could've been why they thought they were abandoned or destroyed and tried to drive right past them. It could also be why the tank died like that after turning around and moving like 50 ft. Its engine may have been hit by a drone or something.
Yeah it does look like the first tank had engine problems or failure, there was alot of white smoke coming out, so the other tank might just have destroyed the tank so that the russians dont get their hands on It.
@@LeroxYT yeah Russians are to desperate to touch T-64
It's also possible someone from the BTR they hit had a disposable or something.
The tank was destroyed by kamikaze drones.
So, could it be that when at the end of the video it shown that one of the tanks is abandoned, it was the one in the front that was already smoking and that smoking was a sign that it was in trouble and eventually had to be abandoned.
This could actually explain its actions as well. Its crew may have been preoccupied with the fire inside the tank when the BTR appeared, which is why they didn't notice it. Only when it got very close, they noticed it shot at it.
BTR POV: war thunder package lost
i feel like to say ukrainians dont use the btr82 is not correct
they surely would use them if they captured one and im sure they did
Yep, this is a good point. There are many accounts of captured BTR-82s being used in Ukrainian service.
The Ukrainian have a lot of tanks which they got from the Russian side because of different reasons.
The problem is simply that I do not see any markings at the side of the vehicles. This is a big problem and causes friendly fire.
I have seen this in other situations, the Ukrainian do not use always their blue or yellow tape around the arm and leg.
The American have experienced that the Ukrainian are killing often their own soldiers, simply because they do not know that they are there. The information-flow in Ukraine is extremely bad.
Ukranians in the front always use colored head and arm bands, specially in Kursk region, they only remove it when they are in the back trench lines. Also for the fact that there is a video of Ukranian drone commanders shouting at the tank crew to fire at the coming btr, and Russian side didnt mentions anything that it was an Ukr btr, also Ukr has barely few available captured btr-82 since all were captured two years ago.
@@mikropower01 Markings on the sides of vehicles are meaningless in head-on encounters. You would have to to drive as close as seen on this video to rely on visually spotting side markings.
It's just a guess, but it looks like those 3 people running out of the APC are the gunner, the driver and the commander. At the moment when the armored personnel carrier tears off the tower, 1 person runs out, it feels like he immediately got out of the place where the tower was, and the other two crew members simultaneously get out of the hatches in front.
Best case scenario they were dropping off ppl and the vehicle was mostly empty. The first strike went through the side of the rear compartment at an angle towards the rear so the crew were likely fine. The rear was probably empty because the Btr was returning to friendly positions hence the confusion of PID.
So fortunately it would seem that the vehicle was lost but everyone inside escaped
The BTR in this video did not sustain losses, the crew compartment was empty and the operating crew were not hit
Without more data, it will be hard to know. But my bet is that the BTR got confused and thought those were friendly tanks, and the T-64 was destroyed by a drone or anti-tank gun from the treeline since there are not many craters on the ground.
The drone operator failed to warn the btr.
The drone in the first video was Ukrainian so they were probably just shadowing the target until it was taken care of.
0:12 is the "oh shit" moment
they must've figured out they weren't friendly as the turret began to track them
either the btr didnt notice them or both were puzzled on which side they belong i guess... when both sides using same gear there might be some miss indetifications
the APC had infantry and a most survived the first blast. they just jogged by the front of the first tank into the wooded area. the Tanks didnt seem to notice or care.
Probably didn't notice in heat of the moment, or didn't care in fear of thinking they might not be alone.
@@keatonwastaken
Tanks are pretty darn blind, especially up close.
@@keatonwastaken or even were thinking that they leggit hit their own by misstake
Strange encounter but also tragic for both side that have similar/same weapon systems
The smoke from the front tank makes it look like its engine was damaged. My guess is that the following sequence of events happened:
1) Russian drone team reports hitting a UA tank
2) BTR Unit receives the report, tank hit report gets misinterpreted as a tank kill along the way
3) BTR sees and drives past said "destroyed" tank, and is destroyed
4) Surviving crew calls for support
5) UA tank destroyed while attempting to leave the area, possibly disabled and abandoned beforehand after engine failure from previous damage
Not going to lie, i underestimated the turret rotation speed as well. Its much faster than i thought it would be, so no you wont be out running the turret rotation unless you are going 120km/h in the highway and even then its questionable. Poor guys, they had no chance, war truly is hell.
It's possible that the BTR thought the tanks were disabled because they were smoking a bit. So maybe they thought they could drive by them and didn't look at the turrets turning
Absolutely weird encounter, T-64 tanks with no infantry sitting in an open area. BTR-82 driving towards what they thought are friendlies (cuz they never fire a shot) because the drone operator failed to alert them. Then after the shot troops causally walks away like nothing happens.
Please explain me your point of view about infantry to be next to the tank. I heard it so many times and always wondered how inf would be able to protect a tank
This is exactly what has confused me in this war. There is a ton of footage of individual vehicles driving around without any support from other vehicles or infantry.
You'd imagine that the minimum size of a unit of operation would be a platoon or more likely a company instead of a lonely vehicle or some 5 men running across the field.
Does anyone know why this is the new face of war when in the past we've got used to much larger units?
I'd imagine that from the point of view of platoon leader (the lowest level of unit lead by an officer) it's a total nightmare to try to lead a platoon that is operated so that individual vehicles do their own thing instead of acting in some coordination with each other.
@@jevgenijjankovskij8537 Vision, tanks are horribly bad vision over battlefields and no amount of technological advancements improved it as much as having just a squad of regular infantry covering the tanks lack of vision. Weapon optics let tanks see very well over distances, but beyond long-rang shooting tanks are basically blind if they're not looking at the enemy.
Single infantryman with 2 anti-tank satchels could have single-handed destroy both tanks with minimum effort just by sneaking up on the tanks through that forest on their right flank, if any of the infantry that ran out of the blown up BTR could have very well blown up or just immobilized both tanks if they had only hand-grenades to throw down hatches or put inside the tracks and wheels.
@@srelma *_Does anyone know why this is the new face of war when in the past we've got used to much larger units?_*
It's an adaptation of a German-invented WW2 strategy called Snail warfare, but a poor and half-assed adaptation of that strategy.
As the name suggests it's the exact opposite of Blitzkrieg/Lightning War to what we're used to seeing since WW2 and NATO's wars against war merchants and oil barons in middle east like Desert Storm.
Current battlefield conditions are muddy and slow trench warfare of WW1, and while the NATO and Ukraine keep trying for large sudden gains with big operations in attempt to imitate blitzkrieg and secure fast victories like their counter-offensives or the latest attempt with the Kursk offensive. Big win = Big news = Media likes it.
Snail warfare is about getting best available commander, as many available forces as you get your hands on and extensively planning out a _VERY_ *small* operation where everyone involved knows their role and the role of everybody else.
It can be as small as eliminating a single squad of enemy soldiers with the goal of completely achieving your goal while suffering 0 losses. It is an extremely micromanaged type of attrition warfare.
From what we historically know Snail Warfare is in fact extremely successful with only downside that it is slow to accomplish anything of great value, it is warfare of killing your enemy via thousand cuts.
That is why nobody among high-command of any force during WW2 liked it or wanted it used in doctrine since it did not give them the big prestige of getting a big army together and throwing it at the enemy to win big like Blitzkrieg allowed them.
Commanders don't like "All quiet on the Western Front" scenarios :/

Checking the unedited footage it appears that 3 men survived the hit to the BTR. You know damn well there was some injuries do to the concussion of the blast.
One ran to the treeline the other 2 ran the opposite direction.

If I was in the T64 I probably would have tried to force a surrender from the BTR crew, and it looks possible that's exactly what they did by the placement of that HE shell. @@pandibbarmanthat's from a different video not this one there was no personnel on top
you think driver et al. made it all in one piece ? Unlikely.
I l9ve how that first T-62 looked at the BTR in total confusion, and turned his turret to checka again
T-64*
The BTR most likely had Ghost Division on, that's why they didn't stop
I can't help myself , but this BTR-82 looks kinda boxy and the turret has also a square shape . A BTR-82 has a round turret and a more round hull , this is maybe a BTR-80 . Strange that redEffect does'nt get closer to the APC , with pictures and stuff to compare .
It was either a captured BTR-80 and friendly fire or the Russians thought that tank was not operational , big mistake .
How did the BTR even end up in a situation to face 2 tanks!?
Dmitry was driving on the vodka again
Does look like second Ukrainian tank attempt to recovery damage one, I see towing cable
But it's still T-series tank with no reverse speed (and soft soil) so
And Russian infantry, I think more like drone
because second tank wouldn't even drive in and peace out if there actually are infantry
Damn that one dude might be able to throw an explosion pack right on that tank
2:16 According to other sources (which are not entirely reliable this may be in the Glushkovo region where the russian counterattack allegedly advanced first without engaging ukrainian forces and then only after securing some advances started doing so. Which means some dumb losses were unavoidable. If that was what really happened.
Anyways, since t he entire frontline looks the same no matter where you look (fields with treelines) no way to know if it's the situation I described or a different place.
Floor mat has jammed the accelerator pedal.
Blind Btr smh, could've gotten away if he is bushed camo up and turned off his engine
I’m never alt tabbing to TH-cam when playing war thunder ever again bru🤦♂️🙏
Никто не знает, но северокорейские кошко-девочки не хуже японских!
You can reach the Atlantic, it won't matter, with the youth like the Western one, you've already lost. "Кошко-девочки" and other forms of degeneracy... Disgusting
And that's why you don't turn your HUD off soldiers!
In addition to the actions of the BTR, what baffles me in this video is the action of the tank (or tanks).
The BTR is driving a long distance right in front of it but it lets it come to within a few tens of metres before it decides to shoot at it. Why the wait?
And then when the dazzled infantry starts running right in front of it, why doesn't it mow them down with a machine gun?
Either the tank crew is very green or they've been hit by something before the footage and that's why they are confused.
Both T-64s were damaged at this point
