@Nmitri Mendel yeah, dude, playing core is hella hard for me now. I made a new account just so I can start fresh as a carry, but the experience was absolutely garbage, it took me 18mins for one normal match!
Great take Jenkins. I'm personally a pos 4 main and I would agree Empathy is what you need to be most successful. As support, I think myself more as the 'set up' for ganks and engages. I make it my duty to recognize tactical advantages ( cooldowns, vision, map awareness ) and basically "green light" our engages. My team has grown to follow me on these calls. I'd venture to add to your thesis that Supports are the true "shot callers" for fights. A ( Good ) support knows when your team will win any fight and thus, WHEN to engage.
I play almost exclusively pos 4 Pudge, I buy some utility items, a metric shitton of wards and some aura items. I do this because I love being the nightmare of the map and making the enemy team paranoid all the time and punish them, when they are not on the edge the entire time. I also like supporting my team with wards, but wards also increase my ability to terrorise the enemy team even more. My end goal is to either make them too terrified to leave the base, or make them focus me first in every teamfight out of fear and PTSD.
Same to me brother, i dont think "empathetic" is the right word, i think "intuitive" or "opportunists" might be better because we always look for the best opportunity to get kills quick and get out. I play pos 4 pudge and very rarely farm, from start to finish I always rotate all lanes looking for opportunities to kill anyone at all times
@@Andy-qd3lu Yes, but also I can sometimes stay visible on one lane to force rotations, or discourage harrasment. I usually do this on mid, if my midder loses badly.
@@Andy-qd3lu as a pudge player I'm agreed with opportunist traits, always hook when it possible to kill (no escape item/skill/cd on tp). Always pressure their enemy support to buy sents / tp
As a pos 3 and 4 player, this is spot on. But I wouldn’t call the pos 4 trait empathy, but more being observant. You don’t empathize with your teammates or the enemy, but you read them. You see the pattern over multiple games which hero is doing what a what time and act accordingly.
I was playing position 1 many years ago, then I went for support roles because even tho I was not that bad carry, I felt like it's better for me to play supportive dota for all my teammates than farm whole game and let the team rely on me. Playing support is in my opinion much more important than a carry roles, because the game is basically on you till something like 30 minute (depends on a carry hero). Then from position 4, I started playing offlane and in this position I realized that you can actually carry the game by your own because you get farm and if you have a strong lane and good potential, you have also kills. And basically as an offlaner nothing makes me more happy than when all their team has to rotate you to help their carry and in some cases when you play something like timber, they are not even able to kill you or it's not a good deal for them, because when they rotate you and you can die, it doesnt matter. You create ton of space for midlane and safelane. So from my experience, I can easily say that I can't be a good carry or mid anymore because I have always that feeling "oh shit, wards are on stock", "I have to buy dust, just in case. Or smoke, we can smoke and kill someone" or "tome is up". So even tho I tried to play carry again, I could not think about these things, because usually my supports didn't give a shit about support items. :D
This topic is a very interesting one, especially when one starts thinking on specific playstyles on each role. I played a lot of Offlane, and the mischief is vastly diferent when you play Batrider and when you play Tidehunter; I specifically remember a Batrider game i had, where i was thinking to myself "I don't care if its going to get me killed, im gonna do everything in my power to make the enemy Invoker miserable". Also wonder how these work with "off-meta" playstyles. Great video, as always!
I usually play sup 4 or 5. Sup 4 is my favorite because i can be more aggressive and playmaker, while not getting full responsability for the wards (because i'm still learning how to position them properly) Also, i love your videos Jenkins, but does someome have another youtuber that could help me play dota a little better? I wish you could post everyday, because, from all the content creators i found, you're the one that i learn the most.
I’d recommend Dota d Bowie, he’s great at analysing the latest patches and explaining simply why several different esports players performed the way they did
I play support because: 1. I love seeing my mates be successful. 2. I don't like to see my friends getting hurt. 3. I can do much with minimal resources. I'm amazed on how it reflects on how I do in real life. I didn't really realize it until I saw this video. Great concept Jenkins.
dude this video was soooo goood, and as a pos1 player i can confirm that while i was stuck at 3k mmr at mid, i climbed to 4.2k within 6 months of shifting to pos1 .... this personality assesment is actually pretty accurate when i compare what u described, to my friends and myself who play those roles ...
I love you Jenkins thanks for reading will edit after watching. I just like going pos4 because then I can be an asshole to the whole enemy team, I know that is a weird one, but picking offlane and having to farm and shit is annoying, I just want to get to the good stuff quicker.
ya as an ex pos 4 player i can agree i love the role because im impatient and ALWAYS looking for a kill. i think SADISTIC might be the trait for this role. just look at every pos 4 player in the eyes and tell me they arent into fisting porn
I used to be a mid player when I started playing Dota2 again in December. As time was passing, I changed into a carry player, until I met my current boyfriend who was a competing pos4 player. He asked me to try that role and I absolutely fell in love with being pos4 next to him. And I agree with what you said about pos4 mentality and now I fully understand why I didn't succeed as a mid or carry player. But here is my point: I COULD play with no communication, but my teammates are barely doing anything when I'm trying to set up a gank or when our lane gets ganked. Because of our similar playstyles and how we adapted to each other with my bf, we end up sending the carry to the jungle, where they disappear and reappear with many items. And we end up losing the game because our teammates weren't aware of our lane or we cant set up a gank on the carry. My other issue is that I must play both pos4-5 roles constantly. And by this, I mean that most pos5 players rush for an item (agha, most of the time) and forget wards an the other things that they must do. So I end up doing both roles... story of my life.
I have traits of all of these but I am highly empathetic naturally and have naturally landed into the 4 position. I think empathy is the correct way of putting it because that is where you get a 6th sense for these kinds of things. Empathy is putting yourself in another persons shoes. If you regularly think, "if I was him this is what I would do..." and make moves based on that then you might be a pos4. The fact a lot of 4s have skill shots isn't an accident either, it uses the same thought process, "he knows I have a hook so he's going to..."
Can you please make a video suggesting where newer players should start. I started with bots and now i play mostly turbo with friends. What should people switching from all pick or turbo to ranked should know?
You should definitely know what each role requires (which heroes are better suited to which lanes, hero counters, etc) and stick to it especially when you're first starting out (if you havent already done so).
@@SarjanaMagicChess agreed! But I remember when I started I just followed the item guides until I got a better feel for the game! I'm sure if hes playing with his friends his friends will tell him which situational items to go for (hopefully) but very good point 😊
@@rui5038 i just hate midlaner/carry who thinks bkb/aeon isn't important item. These items imo drastically increasing survivability if they got ganked/bursted in teamfight
Jenkins should be THE dota 2 Teacher/Mentor! He goes so in depth, not into the mechanics so people can copy-rinse-and-repeate (like league whereyoujustcopyproplayerstotheT) But he goes into depth on you, the player! Like a proper mentor should!
I can do four roles but I mainly dominate in offlane a Night Stalker main to be specific but definitely sucks and horrible at mid lane. I was a decent archon player before but due to the dota 2 rank updates and its calibrations and not playing dota for many years sheer unluck because of my teammates in general, I've been stuck on guardian bracket for a long time, but I can fight decent legend and sometimes ancient players lmao. I often times encounter some smurf players in guardian brackets, it's hard for me to keep up cuz like they're immortal players.
I love this so bad, really. Love. This. It's just that I happened to come to that kind of "conclusion", too, BUT when another people (you) with their own perspective presented it that way,... It just felt good, so good. Godspeed, Jenkins, bro. Keep it up! :D
The best role explanations in dota 2. I will recommending to whatch this video all low ranked players, because the one person cant be everywhere and do everything.
Dude, I love ur content, your channel it's probably the last of my love for dota, I'm so frustrated about my rank, the game it's so hard im tired of try my best and keep not progressing. (obviously I don't speak English so well xd)
dont queue rank when you feel frustrated. go play unrank, and only go rank if you feel like you are ready to enjoy a good game of dota (do not consciously keep thinking about winning) just focus on the game. stop queueing rank when you have 2 consecutive losses
Played pos 5 for 500 matches now, and got suprised at the idea of pos 5 being strategic. After giving it a minute however, when some higher rated people coached me, they made me pay attention to what enemy heroes have, what allied heroes have and what hole in abilities needs to be filled, as in, do i get a save slot or a damage slot, do i ward outskirts of our map to gank or do i ward the forest to farm. Even remembered my ex-friend say that pos 5 is basically captain, but never saying why. I now know why. They know what the team needs, and can guide them to it. Sorry if I made spelling errors, English isnt my first language.
I play supportive roles because nobody wants to play them, so by supporting the hell of my team and meancing the enemy team. I also enjoy ganking since i like to kill the enemies in few seconds.
Okayyyy this one helps a lot, even I already know what role best suits me and this video confirmed that I really suit to a pos 5 player, Thankiess a lot

i have been waiting for something like this for a long time.
Runescape and dota 2 are my gaming passions
Both games are dopamine. Especially runescape never gets old
I didnt play dota for 2 years. Now im back, learning the game and watching jenkins videos again. It was the older yt channel before
I think "Intuitive" is what he's probably trying to say what trait a Pos4 should have. But empathetic also works so whatever
I think the word he meant was more like "predictive".
Ermm intuitive? Im an infj or infp. It that mean im best at offlane?
@@rickyh695 The I in your myers Briggs Zodiac sign, is introverted, not intuitive
i cracked when u called iceiceice's playstyle crazy psychopath 😂😂
it is tho,,
This topic is a very interesting one, especially when one starts thinking on specific playstyles on each role.
It's all about being an asshole to the enemy team basically. Which is why I always see myself playing offlane in most of my games.
1:24 THIS!!
Right Here! Is why i find dota to be the better game then league!
And why i love dota so much, even though i also hste it do much.
And only the avatar can master all five personality types and bring balance to DotA.
Carry
Mid
Offlane
Roamer
Support
Only the Avatar can master all 5 roles
But when the world needed him the most
He disappeared
I usually play sup 4 or 5.
Sup 4 is my favorite because i can be more aggressive and playmaker, while not getting full responsability for the wards (because i'm still learning how to position them properly)
Also, i love your videos Jenkins, but does someome have another youtuber that could help me play dota a little better? I wish you could post everyday, because, from all the content creators i found, you're the one that i learn the most.
Datohleong has the best specific hero guides IMO
Gameleap is great for understanding macro concepts
I’d recommend Dota d Bowie, he’s great at analysing the latest patches and explaining simply why several different esports players performed the way they did
Try BSJ. Helped me a lot
I play support because:
1. I love seeing my mates be successful.
2. I don't like to see my friends getting hurt.
3. I can do much with minimal resources.
I'm amazed on how it reflects on how I do in real life. I didn't really realize it until I saw this video. Great concept Jenkins.
I was declared “mentally unstable” and “a danger to society” by the Supreme Court..... so I think offline might suit me.
damn, you sound like a timber player already
How many years you paying?
dude this video was soooo goood, and as a pos1 player i can confirm that while i was stuck at 3k mmr at mid, i climbed to 4.2k within 6 months of shifting to pos1 ....
this personality assesment is actually pretty accurate when i compare what u described, to my friends and myself who play those roles ...
These videos are actual gold lmao.
God tier video Jenkins, love it bro! 9:50 is so true it's hilarious.
at the start of the video eminem felt like he found himself
I think discernment is better than empathy, but that’s just semantics. Great video!
Amazing video Jenkins! Thanks for ur help, I learnt a lot and I'm gonna try to play POS 5 instead of Carry
As a sea position 5 player this is really true. All you need is keep saying the strat needed to win the game (item choosing, smoke, ward)
Intros are getting better and better!
So I end up doing both roles... story of my life.
painfully recognizable
I have traits of all of these but I am highly empathetic naturally and have naturally landed into the 4 position. I think empathy is the correct way of putting it because that is where you get a 6th sense for these kinds of things.
Empathy is putting yourself in another persons shoes. If you regularly think, "if I was him this is what I would do..." and make moves based on that then you might be a pos4. The fact a lot of 4s have skill shots isn't an accident either, it uses the same thought process, "he knows I have a hook so he's going to..."
I play Dark Willow in any role except midlane. Why? Because I'm an asshole.
I'm basically the opposite...I take any other hero midlane except the midlane heroes...why? Guess I was just bored
one of your better videos yet breh... keep up the good work!
So it was you who took my items on Runescape?
Pretty useful insights for new and veteran players. Hope this gets a lot of views and exposure
This video was very enjoyable. AI can't do this, philosophizing.
This explains really well why Purge plays so much better support than other lanes. It's pretty clear that he's a natural strategist
@@rui5038 don't forget about item progression, the essential part that often forgotten
@@SarjanaMagicChess definitely LOL imagine a PA without a Bkb? That would be a joke HAHAH
Jenkins should be THE dota 2 Teacher/Mentor!
He goes so in depth, not into the mechanics so people can copy-rinse-and-repeate (like league whereyoujustcopyproplayerstotheT)
But he goes into depth on you, the player!
Like a proper mentor should!
Pos1: Iron Man
Pos2: Thor
Pos3: Hulk
Pos4: Hawkeye
Pos5: Cap
That's is acctully really good.
Pos 1 would be Thor (he's like the strongest one) and pos 2 would be Ironman (he's cocky and all)
Great video Jenkins, but you forgot one; position 6 megacuck ward placer, human courier, assistant to the regional carry
hmm ccnc looks like he makes daily guides, sumail looks a bit too old and did topson get surgery with all that ti money?
lol the ccnc guy literally makes daily videos

Jenkins the GOAT, writes a TLDR for a video that hasnt even come out yet
Is that speed lmaoo
Yeh bro it’s his second channel
I can do four roles but I mainly dominate in offlane a Night Stalker main to be specific but definitely sucks and horrible at mid lane.
I was a decent archon player before but due to the dota 2 rank updates and its calibrations and not playing dota for many years sheer unluck because of my teammates in general, I've been stuck on guardian bracket for a long time, but I can fight decent legend and sometimes ancient players lmao.
I often times encounter some smurf players in guardian brackets, it's hard for me to keep up cuz like they're immortal players.
Did you just say you play runescape?????!

He said Sumail by showing the photo of Yawar and then he said Topson by showing the photo of Somnus
the first one was also not ccnc

This was great, bro. Thank you!
Of Robert McNamara's 11 lessons, empathizing with your enemy is # 2. Great video, Jenks
I totally agree! Thanks for making these kinds of video!
Genuinely appreciate your effort, and data. I do like this analysis you gave us. Thanks m8.
Thank you for the video man. Fresh look on the mindset of players

Between all my friends i am like the most cocky, and i think i like mid the most just because that small insane play that you made on your own is awesome
Genuinely chuckled at the mid roll call pictures
My offlane in a nutshell: I love being hit by the enemy while my puny friends hit them back. Essentially, meatshield.
i exclusively play intellect offlaners like puck and WR. so fucking annoying and hard to kill but can kill you if you over step.
