  • From health-tracking wearables to smartphones and beyond, data collection and computer modeling have become a ubiquitous part of everyday life. Advancements in these areas have given birth to "digital twins," or virtual models that evolve alongside real-world data. Aerospace engineer Karen Willcox explores the incredible possibilities these systems offer across engineering, climate studies and medicine, sharing how they could lead to personalized medicine, better decision-making and more.

Regarding aircraft, they already do that, just not in the same way. Regarding people, yes, individual comparisons to "the original model" is very idealistic, but here's the problem with that: the original model is a newborn.

Digital twins can train robots , test cars, planes and other vehicles before they enter the real world and predict how cancer tumorsight grow or how a cancer tumor might respond to radiotherapy treatment or predict how an Antarctic ice sheet might flow under certain temperatures or how a fridge might function ! This technology can really change many areas of the world and help with work in many industries accross all fields !

We are just at the last point in human history before AI is far smarter and more capable than us. Just before machines can literally read our minds. If you think that sounds crazy, Google it. AI is already capable of mind reading.
We are free to travel and live in relative peace and almost anything is possible. We are the last lucky generation.
In 50 years there is no version of the world in which we are not enslaved by technology. Or enslaved by a few powerful men controlling technology.
There was a time in Scotland when a few men had all the power and money and my ancestors were basically slaves working "their" land. Land they had taken by force and they simply owned all the land. Then one day they realised they didn't need these peasant farmers on "their" land and they began "land clearances". Humans were told they had no right to exist where they had existed for centuries and they had to just go away. Ancient clan lands were now one man's land.
Something like four families owned all the land in Scotland and kept it all for themselves. They still do.
Once there is powerful AI and powerful robots what use will you and I be to the elites? We will have no purpose and the "land clearances" will begin again. The removal of surplus humanity from the world of the elites.
We have no rights in the future because we will have no power.

It seems to tell us well about digital twins. The digital twin seems to be a technology with a wide radius that can be useful. In the future world, if digital twins can discover and predict improvements in tumor-oriented unmanned aerial vehicles for cancer patients, save lives, and develop better, it will be a much better and more scientific world than the society we live in now. It was a good lecture that even first-time listeners could understand well. 10610

It's different. Those methods you name do not need the same inputs. They don't need real-time data whereas this method she's explaining tracks real time data offered by real-time measurements done by onboard sensors to both characterize the model and predict its performance. It's truly ground-breaking. In a profession where all we had till now is sheer imagination and good approximation, an attempt has now been made to take guess-work out of the picture. That's the difference.

Well explained and presented, Karen. I'd like to ask if we live in a world where we can trust people weilding such technology. There is no such integrity to be seen and felt. The system is not transparent in its dealings and now is actually a dangerous time for such aspirations. Just use it for your own recreation I guess. There's no hurry to experiment and learn in space with such potent tech. This is trying to introduce an automated technology with implications that are not yet fully declared and understood by many. I'm okay with the whole sensor and algorithm functioning together. That's fine. Just what if this field expands on to other areas of life and you just justify collecting personal information in the name of data? Are you even aware what data about a person's health and movement patterns can reveal and compromise? This does not smell like betterment. You'd do better if you really meant helping humans. That is soulless.

@@reeseb8407the need for profit drives certain kinds of innovation, not others. For example, something like the internet never would've been invented by a for-profit organisation. Pretty much every single technology that forms the bedrock of the modern internet is free and open-source, without a profit motive in sight.
