    I want to hear from you how how long and verbose you would like to see this videos. Would you rather see a video that shows only what I think is needed, or should I include extra information in the video I think might be interesting?

    As I look around at all the old systems I've resurrected over the years, I see you share the same vision.
    I have an old Sempron system running FreeBSD, which I use as a file server. It doesn't have enough RAM to run FreeNAS though.

    I have that same case, but it's over 20 years old. It's a dual Xeon 32-bit system, and it draws about 350 watts at idle with no drives. I'm trying to save the case and turn it into a NAS with a spare motherboard, but I'd have to replace the power supply with a more efficient one. (Even with the new motherboard and the system powered off it draws 11 watts.) I'm not sure it will be worth it for me, and I might be better off selling off the parts and starting fresh.

    Thanks for the info at the end regarding the power consumption, well done.

    Nice salvage! I did something similar awhile back with an old xeon 1200, MSI MB w/8GB mem, 6 WD Red Plus (4TB each), 2 crucial mx500 SSD. It idled around 53 watts. Straight FreeBSD 12.2 at the time.

    Thanks for this vid. I have an intel version similar to the one you have and I'm on my way to the garage now to resurrect it. 😁

    Hey is it better to start with TrueNAS or something else if I only have one HDD but plan to add more in the future? Unraid seems like a better option but its not free.

    • @ElectronicsWizardry
      @ElectronicsWizardry  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unraid is normally better if you want to be able to expand easily. Unraid allows you to easily add an drive of any size. Truenas in the other case uses zfs which doesn’t have a similar parity with mixed drive sizes.

    Hello, do you know a way to activate the turbo boost of the cpu inside truenas scale v22.12.2 and passing thru to a windows 10 vm machine ? I am running a epyc 7d12 on a supermicro h11 ssl-i,,, the cpu is running on the base clock of 1.1ghz full time, seems a little slow... even when i run cinebench or cpu-z

    I like how TrueNAS is honest about the cores (says 3C/6T instead of 6C/6T). Silly Bulldozer CPUs. :D

  • @shanent5793
    @shanent5793 ปีที่แล้ว

    That CPU's been out for a decade and they can't figure out how to count its cores or read the temperature. How is that better hardware support?
