- Brutal accelerated Panov Attack by Stockfish 16 against the Caro-Kann Defense.
Stockfish continues to demonstrate its ability to discover superior moves with remarkable speed. In self-play against Stockfish 15, this new release gains up to 50 Elo and wins up to 12 times more game pairs than it loses. In major chess engine tournaments, Stockfish reliably tops the rankings winning the TCEC season 24 Superfinal, Swiss, Fischer Random, and Double Random Chess tournaments and the CCC 19 Bullet, 20 Blitz, and 20 Rapid competitions. Leela Chess Zero was the challenger in most finals, putting top-engine chess now firmly in the hands of teams embracing free and open-source software. This updated version of Stockfish introduces several enhancements, including an upgraded neural net architecture (SFNNv6), improved implementation, and refined parameterization. The ongoing utilization of Leela’s data combined with a novel inference approach exploiting sparsity, and network compression ensure a speedy evaluation and modest binary sizes while allowing for more weights and higher accuracy. The search has undergone more optimization, leading to improved performance, particularly in longer analyses. Additionally, the Fishtest framework has been improved and is now able to run the tests needed to validate new ideas with 10000s of CPU cores.Stockfish now comes with documentation, found in the wiki folder when downloading it or on GitHub. Additionally, Stockfish now includes a clear and consistent forced tablebase win score, displaying a value of 200 minus the number of plies required to reach a tablebase win. Furthermore, the UCI_Elo option, to reduce its strength, has been calibrated. It is worth noting that the evaluation system remains consistent with Stockfish 15.1, maintaining the choice that 100cp means a 50% chance of winning the game against an equal opponent. Finally, binaries of our latest development version are now provided continuously as pre-releases on GitHub making it easier for enthusiasts to download the latest and strongest version of the program, we thank Roman Korba for having provided a similar service for a long time.

I like when you analyse the possibilities which did not happen because I always want to know. It would take me a long time to check all the possibilities. Another case of bullying by the fish. Thanks Josip.
Dear Josip, once again I can't completely agree with your analysis of the game😂
The critical point of the game was after 17.Bxg5 !
Now the next move 17.- Bxb2 was already the decisive mistake!
The critical line was indeed 17.- Bxf2+! 18.Kxf2 Ng4+ 19.Kf3 f6 20.Bh4 Rf7! 21.Kxg4 Rg7+ 22.Kf4 e5+ 23.Ke3 Qb6+ 24.Kd2 .... So far your analysis is correct...
But now! Your variation continues with 24.- Qxb2+? 25.Qc2 Rxg2+ 26.Re2, which gives White clearly the better game....
I analyzed the position after 24.Kd2, and my Stockfish presented me with a much better continuation! Instead of 24.- Qxb2+?, which is a clear mistake, Black had the brilliant counter-sacrifice 24.- Bf5!!, and now 25.Bxf5 Rd8+, and despite the fact, that White is two bishops up, black has an enormous counterattack! The game could continue 26.Bd3 and only now 26.- Qxb2+ 27.Ke3 Qb6+ 28.Ke2 e5-e4! 29.Bxe4 Rxd1 30.Raxd1 ; and here we have a really difficult endgame where White has enough compensation for the Queen, but is still in danger with his King on the open field.
There is by far no clear advantage for White!
With my best regards, your fan from Germany😊
B14 Panov Attack - Closer to the truth, my friend!
This opening was an ordinary Panov's attack (by transposition). The so called accelerated Panov happens when white takes twice in the center: 1.c4 c6 2.e4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.cxd5.
Besides, this games features only a specific variation of the Panov's attack. Black has many other different ways to react to the Panov's, including the well known drawish line 1.e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. exd5 cxd5 4.c4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Nc6 6.Nf3 Bg4
How can such a solid defense like the Caro Kann be refuted by this game?!
Well this line was on the board.
I'm not a chess profissional (only 2,200 on Lichess), but, in my opinion, after a3, the retreat Be7 (defending the kingside) is much better than the game continuation.
Yes it is. More solid, attacking the d Pawn wasnt a good idea. I agree
What a gem of a game !!
Absolutely mind blowing tactics by the great fish... Nothing to say... just impossible level play...😱
„The End of the Caro-kann-Defense“ Click bait, but it works!😊
Great analysis, Josip
Interesting that SF 14 wants to play Rc1 and the themes are similar.
What can anybody say? If we humans could play routinely like Stockfish, then chess would indeed be a fascinating game!
looks good and highly inhuman so we cna keep playing the Caro-Kann. What is the move depth on these engines?
It is true that engines have shown for about 5 years that the C-K is refuted.
Assuming best-play chess is a drawn game, every defense ends up refutable in the land of supremely competent engine chess. Human chess will always take place well, well short of such level of play. So many of the takeaways from supremely competent (i.e., alien) play are very much immaterial to the game played between us lowly humans.
@@jaybingham3711 Top players benefit from engine opening analysis. Look at how few top players play the KID compared to years ago.
@@dannygjk A handful of humanity's best (SGMs) does little to extricate the bulk (99.9%) of human play from mediocrity. That said, many GMs still regularly make use of CK. As well they should given that, statistically speaking, they won't encounter 100% best-play from an opponent. And if, say, a lowly NM routinely keeps a KID out of their repertoire because "engines prove"...well, that's just bad reasoning and very much inappropriate. Engine chess is a game of complete information. That's not the case in human chess. Your opponent's mental state together with their idiosyncracies have to be assessed and factored in. Of course, there's nothing wrong with watching and gaining aspiration from engine play.
Alphazero vs any chess engines?
5:50 I like N:d4 instead of B:d4
...
maybe Ne4 as well and f6 becomes weak
fear the fish
The Caro-Kann is busted...by the Accelerated Panov Attack!! Botvinnik approves.
Qe7 to protect the knight instead of Qc5?? After white knight sacrifice on E5 and bishops exchange
So if its busted what should you play against e4 without a ton of theory? Thanks
Acording to him self stockfish black got 47 % of winning position
99.99% of chess players can’t play like stockfish so I doubt carokann is busted.
You mean 100%?
The title of this video is the most idiotic statement by Jozarov, who is the main slave of Stockfish.
That’s Because i am Slav
@@Jozarovschesschannel I jave enough Slavic blood in my veins, and Slavic people is not a product of slavery
