My African Rock python, Max, always strikes at me. He needs about 20-30 minutes in the yard before he tires out a bit to be easily handled.

I've handled my fair share of snakes, only been bitten by two. Both were rhino rat snakes. A friend and I decided to buy a pair at an expo and we each kept one. I think the first bite from mine was defensive, but now he only strikes when in food mode (he's also the best eater from my snakes, and I have a milk snake). My friend's snake has absolutely no chill. Not sure if it is personality or if he stresses her too much when handling.

My Bull Snake is easily the most defensive reptile I've ever owned. He never truly bites but he hisses, vibrates his tail, and closed mouth strikes.

    • @Dagian_Jade
      @Dagian_Jade 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

Bull Snakes seem to be spicy in general. I know there's an exception to this very generalized statement, but I have yet to meet one. Lol
Maybe they just like vibrating their tails every chance they get since they worked hard through evolution to mimic rattlesnakes. 😁

I'm working on my Savannah monitor. She's captive-bred, so hopefully, she's a bit easier to deal with. So far, she crawls onto my hand easily during feeding (she's a baby), and if I'm feeding her, she will let me pet her and pick her up. Any other time, she hisses but doesn't run away or anything. Luckily, she has only bit me once when she missed the roach and got my finger and doesn't tail whip almost ever.

My most "aggressive" reptile was a fence lizard I named Arohk (after a dragon from one of my favorite games). He would bite and puff himself up to do push-ups at you. Ooooh, so scary! After a bit of patiently working with him, he was my best little bud. I took him to a science class for a little educational lecture on native reptiles, he would run up to the enclosure entrance and climb up on me, I could leave him out without any worries he'd run off. He was such an awesome little dude and I still miss him. Now, I just have some sassy geckos and a really chill green anole.

I have 2 Kimberly Rock Monitor and i got bitten like 2 times at the start because they thought i was food, but now the only Defensive bite i ever gotten was from my male who is super chill but sometimes like to shown dominance i got them 14.12.2024 and the male i can just take out the female needs a little bit more work but its really rewarding to see them get used to you. At the start they ran away and hid when i entered the room now they like getting neck rubs. They are rly rly fast tho so make sure if you handle them in a room where they cant hide somewhere you cant get to. And yea the females have crazy crazy food drive like insane she will run at full speed threw the enclosure as soon as i walk up with a cricket

Hi Frankie, my favorite lizard ever😘, hard to imagine he was ever fearful. Another great mini class that gets you thinking, personally biting for whatever reason is out for me, while I understand intellectually it’s not personal, my heart takes it personally, sooo. But this helps explain how to interpret why they are doing it, and if you can spend the time necessary to change it. Thanks Adam, I’m sure you’ve helped a lot of people today.🦎🐍🐕💕👍

My most "aggressive" reptile is my bearded dragon. He's very feisty and is a little defensive when I first try to pick him up or pet him when he's in his enclosure, and he's an enthusiastic eater when it comes to his bugs. He doesn't try to bite, but he will puff out his beard, flatten out his body, open his mouth and hiss at me at first. Once I have him or have been petting him for a bit, he calms down. He has only ever bitten me the first time I picked him up and during feedings when he manages to get my fingers in addition to his roach from his enthusiastic grabs lol. I of course still love him to bits. :)

Nice video :) its funny, because all the times you talk about "agressive" animals and injuries that may be caused by them, always comes to mind my cat. I love her more than anything, but you have to know how to play with her, because if not, you can end up with scratches and bites lots of times, and a couple of times she made me bleed more than i would like or expect from her. My point beeing that at least to me, domestic cats have the potential to be as dangerous if not more, than almost all the reptiles you can keep. Keep up the good work, i love your content 😀

My boas are defensive, and some are aggressive and can't be tamed down. Working with them has calmed them down, but sometimes they'll be chilled and once I have them out on the lawn, they become really aggressive/defensive and won't hesitate to lunge out and bite. So not sure which one I'll go with, defensive or aggressive, but I leave them be most of the time.

Blue tree monitors might as well not be mentioned, they went 100% unobtainium last month due to an emergency ESA/CITES listing. Ones currently in captivity cannot cross state/provincial lines, nor can ownership of them be transferred making captive breeding them pointless since you can't even give the babies to someone legally.

I have an emperorboa and she can be crazy at times. She used to be my uncles but he never handled her I was the only one handling her when I visited him other then that he just took care of her. At the point he gave her to me she hadnt been handled for over a year, wich was by me and she was crazy defensive back then. (before that was also a long time) so when I went to pick her up I expected trouble but she was as mellow as can be. Now she still can be pretty defensive inside her enclosure and she also often thinks my hands are food. She is still a great snake tho and starting to get some size to her.

Many years ago, I had a bronze frog that was very stupid and always hungry, so as would be expected, it had a tendency to bite. Most frogs don't have teeth or anything else that would break the skin, so they are completely harmless, though there are a few notable exceptions. It's good for a laugh when an animal that is food-obsessed and also completely harmless decides to bite, but I worry that the animal could injure itself trying to take on a meal that is far to big, so it is best not to encourage this behavior.
Tokay geckos, on the other hand, are a completely different story. These creatures act like they are possessed by demons, and they have nasty little teeth.

I would like to see you put corallus hortulanus in the same light you just put canninus. In previous videos, you said that they are aggressive and that they just want to bite you. As a keeper, my 2 year old amazon tree boa is as tame as they get. Sure, if he is stressed, he will take a striking pose. However, if I respect his reaction and treat him accordingly, he won't bite, and if he does, he will "miss" or not leave any marks.

Great video! But being from the US I have to ask about the name Pittsburg. And how did you come up with that name?

So the thumbnail shows a north American ratsnake, yet aside from corn snakes, you never really cover them. You should definitely put these guys in a video sometime! Very underrated animals.

If you named Pittsburg after the city you forgot the " h" at the end of it . We forgot the government when the change the spelling rules to get our "h" back.

I feel bad for reptiles that hate you and think that you are a predator

I had a Brazilian Rainbow Boa that hated me! She adored my roommate though. She always tried to strike at me, and bit me hard once. When my roommate would walk in the snake would start glass surfing and beg to come out and snuggle with her. When my roommate moved out I sold her the snake and all the equipment for the same price I paid. They are very happy together.

Mine is Wednesday the Tiger Rat Snake. She is a crazy crazy girl who loves to be left alone. My next most defensive would have to be Marble the Cuban False Chameleon. Once you get him out of the tank, he's good boy. Then it would be to be my baby (I'm calling him boy) boy Gumbo th American Alligator. He doesn't do much..yet

Most defensive reptile I've ever had were viper boa's. Far worse than the many blood pythons i had.

Only one would I actually use the label "aggressive" and that is to my sweet little feisty hognose aptly named Tiamat LOL
She actually comes at me with mouth open, even when handling. If she is fine and you are the least annoying, she comes at you with mouth open, showing her back teeth. She will bite and I've had to remove her with a credit card because she gets stuck lol. She could be in her hide, and come out just to chase you. I love her so much lol.

I’d say my most and only truly aggressive animal is my rooster he will hunt you down and drive his spurs into you just to show he is the king of the territory ha ha but yeah my cold blooded reptiles r just calm and nothing seems to bother them
