25:51 I would have built the roads along the coast, just in case you may take a sneaky longest road with a roadbuilding, or trading your resources (especially your ore) for roads; ok actually its not really sneaky etc. but if you connect your roads it would have given you one extra road
I thought the same thing. As a counterpoint though, it is not a very likely possibility as 1. you may not get the road building, and 2. you cap out at 7 roads, while red has a better resource setup to get to at least 8 roads. It may make you look like you are in a stronger position as well, and there was already table talk about hero being in the lead with the jump to longest road.
@@Milcful i agree with you that the chances of getting longest road are not too high - but they exist and in my view there is no downside. do i miss something?
@@fabianbleile9467 The downside is that others are more afraid of you getting to ~ 8 points when you are in a better position to snatch LR. So it might discourage trades you would get if you built your roads suboptimally. It's very hard to quantify both the minute chance of snatching LR and the slight disadvantage of a more threatening position. It's probably not even worth the mental effort during a game, either option is fine.
I feel like you need to play a bunch of games with only a 30 second clock or like a 10 second clock so you when you switch back to a 60 second clock you will feel like you have ages
I feel like first settlement should be the 8/4/3, where black first settlement was. The clay is super important, you get really good ports and it seemed pretty clear that at least some dessert spots with wheat or the sheep/wheat/ore port spot at the top would be free. All pretty good spots that work well with the first settlement. This board looks like a lot of dev cards are going to be played and you need too much dice luck to really secure that. So 8/4/3 seems 'safer' just because you are way more flexible with winning. But maybe the 2nd settlement would be too weak to support that, hard to say for me.
I subscribed. Saw you in my recommendations a couple weeks ago, and your placement strategy videos got me back into the game (I'd played it years ago when I was a kid, but very poorly). I don't subscribe to many people - in fact, I'm only subbed to some 6-7 channels after many years of using TH-cam, but I've been so impressed by your high quality content and analysis that I now count you among those channels. Please keep up the great work!
At the beginning, you asked the viewers where they would have started. I started where Black did. That 4 on brick is basically the only brick in the game. Very important. That's why black won.
Agreed, also the spot between them the 9Wh, 4B, 2W is good too. I think securing early brick and trading / expanding to sheep is easier than securing Sheep without getting any brick or wood.
Yep! I was going to mention that but decided not to. I think I still should've pointed out that mistake. This affected me a ton because it kills the road-building out and it's simply a more efficient road path.
@@DyLightedCatan could've then mono'd ore at 32:00, use the ore port and took the game then. Shoulda woulda coulda though, so good riding the variance and catching back up to black, they had a huge lead.
Another great educational video, thank you so much for your effort in producing these. My concerns about Colonist are as follows; 1) Even under fast mode it takes about an hour to get through a game versus 20 to 35 minutes on Universe. 2) I have a harder time following the graphics to see what people are comments about, trading and receiving when the dice roll, knowing how many resources I have. Even you seemed to lose this game due to the graphics in this episode. 3) When someone drops and the computer takes over, the computer is much dumber than in Universe, its just not programed as well and it is not as competitive and makes really stupid plays. 4) Harder to get the games started in Colonist, finding a game where everyone is "ready" is frustrating. At least it works once you get started though.
Hey DyLighted - I LOVE watching your videos. Because of you I switched from catan universe to colonist and I have had SO MUCH FREE FUN! Between colonist and you I feel like my game has really improved :) I love your content...I love to relax after a long week watching a video while I cook or hang out. Its so well edited and you can tell how passionate you are. Thanks for all your hard work :) P.S. black was hilarious this game. ...
Matt Marko I really don’t think it was an error heading for the wheat port. As I said I wasn’t expecting to get the port, but more for the settlement spot on the 6 sheep. By pointing the road to the 6/4, it encourages someone to place there and encourages others to race me and go on that spot sooner.
Wrote some thoughts as I was going through the video: 1:38 I like your spot and your reasoning behind it. I think you also could consider the 3-4-8. It's the only good brick spot and it's pretty likely you can get wheat and sheep on your last placement. Not sure which one I would chose in your position. 23:17 Why don't you cash in some of those wheats for a brick or wood? You just picked up a road building.. you can try and build a settlement next turn on the ore port. I'd say this is pretty urgent considering blue is going for a competing spot. You could also try trading a wheat for a brick or wood too. Did you consciously chose to buy another dev card instead of this, or was it not something you considered? 25:56 You placed your roads in the wrong placement.. you should have gone along the coast to the same spot instead so you could potentially connect to your other settlement for longest road later. 31:29 You bought the 2 dev cards almost immediately without stopping to consider your options after picking up the mono. After getting the mono you could have built a settlement bringing you to 8 points, meaning next turn you could have attempted to use mono to steal longest road and claim the victory, or use the mono to build 2 cities at once (which would now be possible as you'd have 2 settlements on the board). In fact building a settlement is just straight up better than fishing the deck for a VP card, regardless of the other reasons. 32:33 If you had've used your roadbuilding earlier correctly, you could have mono'd ore on this turn and built 2 roads for longest road and won the game right here. And if you build a settlement the previous turn instead of buying a knight, you'd be on 8 points with 1 sheep 3 ore 2 wheat at the start of this round, then you could mono for a minimum of 3 ores (as you just rolled a 9), which leaves you with 6 ores to convert into 3 roads - this still would've allowed you to take longest road and win even with the incorrect road building placement. 34:00 Crushing defeat. Maybe also time to focus on eliminating the scenarios where your turn ends before you've made your moves, this seems to happen to you pretty frequently, and stopping those unforced errors is probably the easiest way you can improve your results. Would have loved to see you in the grand finals! Great video nonetheless, thanks for sharing, really enjoyed this tournament series :)
That's a pretty good analysis. I believe this game was being played on Normal speed on Colonist, which gives 2 minutes per turn and that is usually a lot of time. You can see toward the end, he spent a minute deciding to misplay the Knight. And another 40 odd seconds to rob and time out before buying a dev card.
Hey man! I'm a big fan of your work. Its crazy that in just a few days I went from a beginner to actually playing all the time. You showed me some great placement tips and how to become an ore-wheat-sheep god. If anyone is reading this I would highly recommend the game. It is under-appreciated, and if it got the attention it deserved it would probably have a reliable online service. Thanks!
Great video D, unlucky on the loss. I can relate to your play style from a POV outside of Catan. I used to fence sabre for fun in college, which is the quickest weapon type in fencing. The biggest problem I had, and many spectators and opponents commented on it, was that I fenced in my head and not on the piste. As a result I got hit in the mask a lot whilst I was working out how to win; they literally said it was like I was absent. I genuinely think you play the game in your head better than anyone else, but you need to translate that game onto the board. I know Colonist is a bit laggy, you know Colonist is a bit laggy, so when you've got your plan, double check once then execute!
I love this overanalyzed catan stuff. Keep it coming! I feel like you made two mistakes this game though. Firstly as other people pointed out, using roadbuilding alongside the coast has the upside of making more room for roadbuilding, plus the potential to get longest road of 7 with another roadbuilding. The way you placed the roads doesn't seem to have a purpose. For your first settlement spot, wouldn't it be way stronger to go on the 6/9 wheat port right away? I feel like the wheat port is usually gonna be stronger than the 12 wheat. Think about it. Once you do a single 4-1 wheat trade, you already exceeded the expected production of the 12 spot over a game. Expecting to get the 9 wheat port is optimistic. Just point the road inwards to the right, then you have the same reach, except you can build on 9/6/3 and 6/4/12 if you want. I would be really interested to hear what you think of the 6/9 spot. Am I crazy or is it better than 6/9/12?
I like your thinking. Maybe the 4/6/12 might get taken though, on a low wheat board it looks pretty juicy. By taking the 6/9/12 he prevents the 4/6/12 from being available
I feel a lot of your mistakes are due to Colonist itself. I am not a frequent Catan player, but I find it super difficult to follow what goes on, and the software does not help, so here's some ideas / thoughts that crossed my mind while watching since you appear to be promoting them now in some sort of official capacity. The UI should give you small beeps when you have your last 5 or 10 seconds. If you make a lag when making a move, and your move goes through after whatever timer expires, it should not happen. (Which is easily done by associating board state with your commands.) Also, many UI elements are unnecessarily huge and text-cluttered. If you want a usable text log, you should not have to scroll every other second. Same with the chat box. Make the text smaller and put it at the bottom so you can read entire messages without things having to wrap. Why does blacks name get iconized? It is confusing. Why is the 'confirm dev card use' window so huge and all text except for picture-like buttons, when you can simply put a picture of the dev card with 'Use this?' It totally did not achieve the intent of 'did you pick the right card' because the UI failed to point out well enough that you clicked the wrong button. Why aren't dev cards more visually distinctive? Mistakes could be avoided in current layout by spacing them away more from your normal cards. Why is the timer so tiny and hard to see? Remove the digital aspect and turn it into a colored circle that gets emptied pie-slice style. It will be super obvious when it disappears. Circle color indicates intent so you know what phase you are on. Also put the timer neatly in the top left, and put the dice there too perhaps. Everything informative is crammed with tiny letters in the bottom right making it hard to get a simple overview. Even as a mere viewer, I keep bouncing my eyes to the playing field to discover numbers, to the timer, to the dice, to the log at top, to the bottom left cards, to the top right chat, etc etc. Perhaps it is made worse by you cutting out dead space, but if I am losing tons of time trying to figure out what happened two seconds earlier because I was looking at something else, then I probably am not the only one to struggle. All around, I feel the game gives useful UI spots to useless icons, big areas of UI to things that don't need to be big, clutters up useful information in relatively small space and all around actively hampers usability. When it comes to a tournament especially, you want information to be very clearly laid out so players can focus on playing against players rather than playing against the game itself. The end result of watching your videos is that I don't even want to play Catan for myself; I'll just end up raging. Understanding what just happened should always be easy when you are paying attention so that you can focus on figuring out the motivations of the players instead. Sorry for the long post, and good luck on your videos!
I agree, colonist kinda sucks in the state it is right now. Catan Universe does all the things you mention better, at least in custom games without timers (that 's how tournaments are played there)
Abhignan Reddy I think the reason there was so much lag was because the tournament was played during one of the prime times so there was a TON of people on. Usually there isn’t any server lag.
Subbed! I most enjoy these under 45 minute post game analysis videos. Also I like co-commentators (like other pros) a lot! Thanks for your efforts on these videos.
Thanks for the video. One thing I noticed is had you played the road building by going the other way around the 6, you would have been better positioned to take longest road yourself, and didn’t really have to sacrifice anything. Connecting for 7 total roads would have only required 2 more roads.
Hey DylLighted, thanks for the amazing content, and for putting in so much time and effort into these videos. Especially your attitude towards the game, man, you really changed the way I think about Catan. My catan friends and I have been big fans of yours, hope you keep up the great videos!
Thanks! I'm so glad I could change the attitude of you and your friends. This game truly has so much to offer. It's these comments that make me want to keep making more. Thanks!!
First position: at the end of the day, there'll be tons of ore available, so I need strong wheat and sheep, and the presence of 12 and 2 smack in the center makes the port locations much more attractive. I select 69 wheat port. For the fourth player I have a monstrous idea: take the 64 ore port and then take the 6912 ore-ore-wheat, already well on your way to your first city. Then quickly hit two cities, trade ore for wheat if necessary. Lay your 64 road to the left and lay your 6912 road to the right. The goal is for the next town to be 2610 and also citied up ASAP.
Thank u for being my inspiration for this game. Is there any chance I could gift u an even better microphone? I think its necessary to sound as nice as possible in this kind of analysis videos.
Haha I hope you're being serious - right now I use an iPad to record but I heavily edit the audio. Email me at DylLighted@gmail.com if that wasn't a joke.
Nice game and excellent commentary as always! At 6:52 I would prefer pointing the road to the north, mainly to avoid any confrontation with Blue. Also because a road building card would allow sneaking up on the 6-4 ore port, with the prospect of connecting with my other settlement with a road of total length 7 (no roads wasted).
31:01 You can also buy a dev card and then trade 2 ore for a brick and build a settlement. I would have bought 1 dev card and then decided to either buy another one or build the settlement based on what the first dev card was. Since you got the monopoly with the first dev card which is what you were looking for, and you can only play 1 dev card next turn, I would have then built the settlement. It gives you guaranteed VP, whereas another dev card is at best a VP. It may also provide an extra sheep if a 6 is rolled and guarantees you 4 sheep per 6 rolled which you could 4-1 for anything else you might need.
I just want to say thak you DLY. I learned a ton from watching your videos. I was a pretty poor catan player and thanks to your amazing analysis videos I learned the intricate dynamics of the game and it really boosted my play. I encourage you to continue with your videos and wish to maybe meet you one day in a catan tournament. Hope you see this man :)

Colonists fault, Catan Universe has no timers for tournaments and you also can't accidentally play a knight card instead of monopoly. But now with the partnership he has to play on this inferior platform :/
@@dravocado1061 How is it Colonist's fault he is playing too slow? Unless you are playing with friends, it is nescessary for any online game to have timers. Not having timers would be very, very bad design. He just needs to learn to play within the time, or increase the timers I guess.
@@JS-oh2dp Have you ever been on the internet? Played any game there? If there were no timers, what's to stop someone from getting mad about losing, or about someone stealing from them or about him not getting his favourite colour and just ragequitting? So what if it's a tournament, all of that can and has happened if you play anyhing online where there's no consequences for such actions. I do agree that it's bad design to have set timers without any options, there is no reason for there not to be a chess timer option. But Colonists is still being developed, unlike Catan Universe.
Two things: 1) I kick myself hard when I make mistakes too. My most common one is misreading the trade direction and giving up a precious resource when I think I’m getting one. 2) Timing out really sucks because the AI makes questionable decisions. The worst for me is when I have to go first and have very little time to analyze the board. Bonus - When complainers win it only reinforces the idea that complaining works. It’s the worst. Nice job.
YES! finally another upload. I know you mentioned it takes much time to release this vids. For that I thank you. Please don't ever stop, I've improved so much thanks to you. Cheers, E
It seems like there ought to be a "cancel" button and hotkey after selecting a development card and before completing the action it does, ie. placing the robber or roads, or selecting resources. There is no reason to show other players you selected it before committing a move. Pretty much any digital turn-based game will have this option. Omitting this is an interface design choice that I'm really not a fan of.
Catan Universe does this better. I don't get all the hate for Catan Universe, I think it's way better than colonist, no stupid turn timers in tournaments, no timer before rolling or after playing a knight card, you can't misclick stuff and the graphics resemble the real game. Also colonist shows when a certain resource isn't in the game and has quite a few bugs (like rolling the dice after playing a knight before your roll). I really don't like colonist for all these reasons
your analysis helped me win my most recent game with my friends (3 person game with 4 deserts) - went a dangerous no brick route but it payed off in the long run
Good game. Thanks for the video. And great tournament. Colonist is great but don't you think there should be more time given to discard cards and place robber? Also I found when I did games with my friends, the map was always the same. Do I have to buy maps? Thanks!

I'd like a chance to see an unedited version of this game. I think WoodBrick may have a point about your table talk. If you think I'm wrong, prove me wrong and post this without the edits so we can see for ourselves.
thanks man! I always watch your videos and I am owning friends with my wife now lol. greeting s from Chile, really appreciate all the help u put !!! :)
Although you are a great player i think you overvalue OWS. It is the best strategy to beat noobs by being "the possum" ,table talking in your favor etc but against higher level opponents strict OWS just doesnt work. Lets look this game for example. You were really lucky and EVERYTHING went your way.Rolls, steals, dev cards, everything. And you could have won (if u managed better your time) BARELY. You could have won REALLY CLOSE when EVERYTHING went your way.If you replay this exact map most of the times you will be at 5 points when the game ends...This means that your starting setlement picks are wrong. Imo the best pick for the first player is the 843 (ore brick wood) because there are multiple spots to get good wheat-sheep(9-6,6-4,10-5). You pick the best clay and ore and you can play a balanced game with all resourses and good number variety. PS.Gj anyway and keep the videos coming!
Something that I'd like to know your opinion on As the first move of the game, when you rolled the 7, you robbed the 8 ore over the 10 wheat. Black was on both of those spots. I understand both sides of the argument: 8 produces more and gives ore, which is against your win condition. The 10 gives wheat, which is a rare resource and black already has wheat in hand. However, what specifically made you choose the 8 over the 10? You could be the main wheat provider in the game or simply slow the game down for everyone else because they would have useless cards in hand without any wheat.
You messed up with the roads to the 4-6 port, late game around 26 mins. If you connected the roads from the top of the sheep tile you would’ve got closer to longest road, no reason to build through the other way.
I made a similar mistake in the last game I played. Played perfectly the whole game and (due to time pressure) panic played a knight before I rolled, forgetting that I could only play one dev card per turn. I had two free roads and could have stole longest road/built two roads and a settlement to win. Next persons turn, they stole longest road and won. It's haunting me lol :,(
I would've chosen 8/4/3 (black's spot) as first place, since you would've secured highest ore+wheat, plus some road material. You only needed a wool spot after that, and there were going to be several available, like 6/4+ore port, 11/5+wool port, etc
Also, excellent decision, colonist team is amazing. Developers, moderators, coders, testers and community colaborators are great people always willing to help everyone out and improve both game and community quality. Check out colonist's discord server!
Don't panic. Click with purpose. Time manage well. Don't run out of time on your turn. You could have won this game if you focused on monopoly quickly and first. Then build. Then get dev card. Always execute. Don't make mistakes.
The 3 wood isn't that useful as it doesn't give a strong reward. Essentially I'm sacrificing 4 points of ore to accelerate myself to build on the 6 sheep. Overall it's not worth the sacrifice.
It’s not that big of a deal, but while watching, I notice that I would have used the road building across the coast because it leaves the possibility of you snagging longest road, something that you never would have imagined with your strategy.
At 25:50 I think you made a slight mistake. If u would have built along the coast you would have a slight bit of a better chance for longest road. All you would have to do is build 2 roads connecting your settlements and you’d have 7 roads in a row. I know that this is extremely unlikely that you would get longest road but it’s possible. Please correct me if I’m wrong on this.
Very late to this video, but you definitely should have used the Monopoly at 32:25 when you talked about holding it. You would get minimum 12 ore, which with your 2 for 1 ore, could have gotten you a city, settlement, and a dev card (hoping for VP) or another city (depending on how much ore was out there) bringing you to 10 points
Why not put your roads out on the edge after you play road building? I realize you aren't setup for roads at all, but doing so sets you up to get a 7 longest road if the cards happen to fall in your lap by chance, and it doesn't seem to be of any advantage to go inside like you did. Really love the content! Learning a lot!
I kinda feel those tournaments should have a bit longer turn clock. It is very easy to panic or for the server not to process the orders on time. Good play though and good luck on the next tournament
So. Dev cards a bit more spread to choose the correct card. Time warning. If you have a bigger computer, will the chat function be longer? What do you think colonist could improve?
It is funny how you started to promote colonist. BUT. You clearly lost because of lagged/bugged colonist and their Paint graphics/interface. 1)At 17:44 we can clearly see that you clicked on discard with 3 seconds left. Because of lag/glitch it didn’t count and made auto-discard. 2)About using Knight instead of Monopoly. You would never make such a mistake on CatanUniverse (yes it is also bugged), because there you clearly see which card is which, and they are enough big to press correctly without missclicking. P.S. I’m not against colonist. But they are not any better than CatanUniverse... It is so hard to observe the game there because of in-paint-made-graphics and please-use-a-microscope-interface. I use it for Tournaments, but I also tend to constantly missclick there, because everything is so small. And I believe that’s the reason why you lost = Lag+Missclick
In almost any other game I play, whether it be poker, dominos, hearts/spades, etc, and especially in organized play, no one is allowed to collude or say/do anything that would cause other players to play differently, even if they're teammates. I'm surprised Catan is different.
You are literally trying to take over resources to become supreme, that is literally war, you team up and destroy each other. And you literally compared poker, dominoes and hearts/spades which are nothing like Catan
Question: At 7:54 you say you blocked blacks ore to prevent a early development card buy. Wouldn't it be better to block his brick their? Because as I see it, your worst nightmare would be for him to get a round off good roles and for him to recognize that you reallllly want to wheat port. If he were to be able to cut you off, I would consider that a disaster. So yeah, in my mind it is better at preventing the worst case scenario, while still giving you a card. (Also him buying a early dev.card will drain him of precious wheat, so the chance of him cutting you off gets even lower) Please provide me with your insight, I would like to discuss this. Thank you :) PS: I haven't watched the whole video while I write this. PSS: I am not a professional Catan player^^
@Zoe Lang That seems to me a bit too much wishful thinking. He is already playing a high-variance game. Further relying on chance to take blacks bricks seems to me like further increasing the variance.
Dude you are very good at this game but as everyone probably tells you, you need to play way faster. The fact that you timed out choosing which cards to discard is crazy man haha. I don't even know why you were debating. You gotta trust your instincts dude. Regardless, love watching your videos man.
Wow your channel did kinda explode, dude great times. Also I gotta wonder if red considered 3/6/11 road towards wood port, and then 2/8/10 road to the right at all. That seemed like a slightly stronger pick to me, especially considering no one is competing for your expansion towards the right I wouldn't think. Idk it's not necessarily better, but also seemed strong to me. Oh and blue omega screwed up there with that second road lol 14:20 it seemed stronger to me to accept 2:1 sheep for wheat and city right? edit: dude that's rough haha. also black seemed to not understand to concept of... playing the game
Ahahah! I can't believe you found my other channel! I'm still horrible at the game and did it just for fun. Learning it though is quite interesting. It's like bullet chess
Question for DylLighted: what are your thoughts on starting on the 9/6/Wheat port as first pick? Might not it be worth it to have *immediate* access to the wheat port, at the cost of losing out only on a 12 Wheat?
Doing that would allow players to easily trap him in by placing on the 6-4-12 and the 9-12-3. He blocked two settlement spots with his first placement. However, it definitely could work if no one forward settles on you too hard.
Red: a big part of Catan is a mental warfate
Black: but it's whinning
Red: which you seem to be pretty good at

It's very hard to quantify both the minute chance of snatching LR and the slight disadvantage of a more threatening position. It's probably not even worth the mental effort during a game, either option is fine.

@@TheShamansQuestion Thanks!
I've just binged through all of your content. I didnt even know Catan before! Thanks for the entertaining videos :D
Awesome video! That ending was so sad, but your narration was pretty hilarious (and still genuine). Thanks for posting it!
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words you leave on every video! I couldn't ask for a nicer present.
I feel like you need to play a bunch of games with only a 30 second clock or like a 10 second clock so you when you switch back to a 60 second clock you will feel like you have ages
Good idea! I like it.
LMAO physically laughed at “I do not know why I did that.” Digging through outta music!
Thank you! I truly appreciate it and I'm grateful that you think I deserve your subscription. Thank you again!
At the beginning, you asked the viewers where they would have started.
I started where Black did. That 4 on brick is basically the only brick in the game. Very important. That's why black won.
well, ultimately yes.
But dylighted really made huge mistakes due to time trouble.
Agreed, also the spot between them the 9Wh, 4B, 2W is good too. I think securing early brick and trading / expanding to sheep is easier than securing Sheep without getting any brick or wood.
26:00 I would've placed my roads along the coast as it allows you to more easily connect your roads and sneak in a longest road of 7 length for a win
Between colonist and you I feel like my game has really improved :)
I love your content...I love to relax after a long week watching a video while I cook or hang out. Its so well edited and you can tell how passionate you are. Thanks for all your hard work :)
P.S. black was hilarious this game. ...
Wow I actually deduced correctly where you would put your first settlement. I’m learning guys!!!
Same!!! It felt so good
Woohoo! Good job y'all!
Same!
Major error made in direction of first road, in heading towards wheat port instead of ore port.
Fine, have my sub. Strategy game players have to stick together.
Haha! Thank you!!
Mine too
Wrote some thoughts as I was going through the video:
1:38 I like your spot and your reasoning behind it.
Thanks!
Thank you!!! I appreciate it a ton.
Man. I love your commentary and your drive to provide value to others. The lessons at the end really seal the deal
Been waiting a while for this!
I know I know! It took me such a long time! I hope you enjoy it!
I know Colonist is a bit laggy, you know Colonist is a bit laggy, so when you've got your plan, double check once then execute!
every single one of us gasped and feels your pain at clicking the knight instead of monopoly
Hahaha! I gasped and was in pain during that turn! Ahhh it still hurts!
Catan Universe does all the things you mention better, at least in custom games without timers (that 's how tournaments are played there)
I have played atleast 40 games till now, i never had any sort of lag, no idea why he had so much lag
Abhignan Reddy I think the reason there was so much lag was because the tournament was played during one of the prime times so there was a TON of people on. Usually there isn’t any server lag.
Glad you moved to colonist.io , seems like a much more friendly platform. So cool that you got sponsored by them!
I know! I thought so too! I'm very appreciative.

Yea, nice catch! I noticed it in my commentary but decided to cut it. I am now regretting it since it could have impacted the game a lot.
I found colonist from your channel and played it with my friends today because of you! Thanks man!
Just wanted to say I like your videos, you have a very good voice an rythm for these video. Not too fast but not slow either. Keep up the good work.
Very well said - I think I should’ve considered this option more.
I just want to say thak you DLY. I learned a ton from watching your videos. I was a pretty poor catan player and thanks to your amazing analysis videos I learned the intricate dynamics of the game and it really boosted my play. It's so frustrating to watch you lose because you don't move fast enough. You do that so often!
I loved that you keep producing content to us!
Great work man!!
Two things:
1) I kick myself hard when I make mistakes too.
Nice job.

@@dravocado1061 the hate for catan universe is for the absolutely horrible connection issues, people are getting kicked out in almost every game.

Yes this
Something that I'd like to know your opinion on
As the first move of the game, when you rolled the 7, you robbed the 8 ore over the 10 wheat.
Dude! I know that feeling. I play on the way to work in the morning and make some stupid clicks half asleep. Catan life!
15:55 - play the knight first, so even if you get 7'd out, you can still keep the city ;)
I really like the 9-4-3, it's low production, but brick is VERY low & high ore values wheat more as well
I got into Catan and I really love the game. Your videos helped with that. Therefore I would like to thank you.😄
Why not go on the 9 4 3 for your first settlement since brick is the rarest resource and could also be used for trades?
It also takes away the 8 4 3 which is a pretty strong spot for other players especially because of the rare brick that you dont want others to have.
I love the fact that he was named wood brick so the chat registered as the pictures lol
You messed up with the roads to the 4-6 port, late game around 26 mins. If you connected the roads from the top of the sheep tile you would’ve got closer to longest road, no reason to build through the other way.
Yep. Agreed
Quick question . Why 6-9-12 over 6-3-11? You get another resource and you also get the chance to punish blue for being greedy
The 3 wood isn't that useful as it doesn't give a strong reward. Essentially I'm sacrificing 4 points of ore to accelerate myself to build on the 6 sheep. Overall it's not worth the sacrifice.
glad to see you upload
Just started watching your videos and binged them all love the content thanks for all the great videos! I'm learning so much
Just discovered this channel, love the commentary!
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the stay!
No! That's right. It's actually a very big error.

black malding in chat was entertaining
good shit dude, love the colonist.io things. the actual game is a little hard to follow, plus im familiar w this shit
Videos are great diylighted. If you don’t want to edit as much, that would be perfectly fine
Oh man this crushed me the old colonist was so laggy man wow
For my first settlement I would have definately have picked the 4 brick. Brick looked to be really scarce on this board.
Good play though and good luck on the next tournament
haha, great to have you back dylighted:) we missed you. Maybe some speed practice in the next week though? ;)
I like how this is an ad for colonist but showcases the ways colonist sucks
Subscribed, best catan content, keep it going!
So. Dev cards a bit more spread to choose the correct card.
Time warning.
If you have a bigger computer, will the chat function be longer?
What do you think colonist could improve?
at 25:46 why didn't you build the roads along the coastline? in my opinion, this would be better for having longest road :)
And I believe that’s the reason why you lost = Lag+Missclick
great content bro, keep it up💪💪
In almost any other game I play, whether it be poker, dominos, hearts/spades, etc, and especially in organized play, no one is allowed to collude or say/do anything that would cause other players to play differently, even if they're teammates.
(Also him buying a early dev.card will drain him of precious wheat, so the chance of him cutting you off gets even lower)
Please provide me with your insight, I would like to discuss this.
Thank you :)
PS: I haven't watched the whole video while I write this.
Hahaha yea that’s honestly a really big hole in my play 😆. I’ve repeated this mistake so so many times, and in many tournament matches.
Oh and blue omega screwed up there with that second road lol
14:20 it seemed stronger to me to accept 2:1 sheep for wheat and city right?
edit: dude that's rough haha. also black seemed to not understand to concept of... playing the game
Interested if you are still looking into Armies of Gielnor ,would love to see your take on that, even just videos of you learning lol
Ahahah! I can't believe you found my other channel! I'm still horrible at the game and did it just for fun. Learning it though is quite interesting. It's like bullet chess
@@DyLightedCatan lol, thanks.
It's definitely a weird game, glad you like it though!
It got to a point where my attention moved from the game to WoodBrick throwing a fit in the chat lol
