Ridgebacks are actually variable in size, according to bloodline. I have a 115 lb male, from an African bloodline, and a 70 lb female who is consistent with AKC standards. But yeah, Irish Wolfhounds are very large.

Very very few dogs compare in size to these giant beauties and I don’t think any of them have the history of them as the first known record of them was 936bc I may be off a year in either direction but when you are talking 5,000+ years what’s a year give or take. If you are into them check out the wild stare it’s really great informative entertaining with on-site from long time owners although it’s up for grabs as to who owns who

I just got my wolf hound pup 12 days ago lol. She's already I'd sat 20 pounds at 7 weeks and as big as any small breed. I absolutely can't wait to see her in a year 😂
They have what’s called the thunder paw where they can capture your attention or knock you on your ass or flip you upside down and they know how to use it to their best advantage every single time
I wonder who'd win in a fight. I'm Irish so I'm used to seeing wolfhounds (people use them nowadays to hunt badgers and foxes) which were once used for wolfing and the RR a packof which kills lions. Be interesting to see

Geeze my intact male rhodesian is 102 lbs and doesn't have an ounce of fat on him. I call him the giant muscle noodle because his neck is larger than his hips and he feels like one giant muscle. But he would be dwarfed by a wolf hound. Crazy how things can be put into perspective.
I have a 4 year old male Ridgie who is 118 Lbs and shredded, he stands at 30 inches and is as tall as a female Great Dane, I also have a 16 month old female who is 75 lbs, and about 28 inches so pretty tall for a female but seeing that Ridgeback dwarfed by that the wolf hound is just insane and your right, puts things into perspective
@@jillthompson1248 Wow, and that is for a female, crazy, I have a female Great Dane that lives round the corner from me who is only a touch taller than my male Ridgeback and so Id guess she is maybe 32 inches so I can only imagine how big 36 inches looks to people who are not used to big dogs, lol. My male Ridgie was also the runt of the litter but has grown into the largest dog in the whole litter.
Rr are band in 3 country's and are known for being some of the best self defense dogs and are bred for killing lions and runing extremely long distances
They are not play , they just test each other , the “ play “ it is different , only with the family members ( dog family ) and for few minuts . The rest it it test .

Second, the English mastiff is considered on average, the biggest dog breed by various authorities and sites that list these sort of things including the Guinness world record company 🐕. The only other breed that disputes the mastiff's numbers in terms of height and size, is the great dane. Height and size is the parameter considered when discussing largerness. Weight would be relevant when discussing the heaviest dog breed - because factors like bone density contribute significantly to weight but dont necessarily contribute to overall size or height.

As big as the wolfhound is, many don’t realize how fast they are. When she was a 2 yr old pup she ran next to my truck at 37mph!
