Hi there Dom, a beautiful Fox, the memories come flooding back, it must have been about late 1985, a bunch of us hooting in the local school playground and field. I was introduce to the Fox then, and that sleek low stance, of course I was blasting around with my Hornet, well anyway, this friend was having trouble getting the Fox running, and another one of my friends, decided to blast around, went out of control, full speed towards the Fox and the box of screws on the ground, then hit it full reverse, the Hornet span round 180 degrees, flicking up all the screws all over the place! It wasn’t funny at the time, but the memory still makes me chuckle!🤣😂🤣😂 damn Hornets! 🤣😂🤣😂 we found the screws, got the Fox running and boy did it go! I eventually tuned my Hornet, using Fox wheels & tyres front and rear, bearings, Technigold motor and 8.4v NiCd pack 😁😉great video capture and editing, makes me want one 😁😉😎oh well, another to the list 😎take care and best wishes to you and the family 😊😁😉
Good memories my friend . For me it’s always the hornet . I was just obsessed with it as a kid . Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it. All the best to your family to mate😊👍👍👍
Lovely bash video, lot's of creamy smooth slow motion goodness! I really like that area you got there, it's perfect buggy territory, loose dirt and some bits to jump over, it's great!
I just binged your last few videos after watching adams farm king video and they videos kept getting better ! Sound track was awesome for one of my favourite things to watch, buggies in the SAND… nothing like sand
Looks awesome Dom! Love the Fox, it was one of many rc from Tamiya that I drooled over in the local hobbystore back in the day but could not afford...now its up on the need to buy soon list!🙂👍
I just bought myself a Nova Fox and have built it last night. Going to paint it today, I was going to change our the motor but if this is how well the car performs with the standard motor I might keep it stock. I owned and still have a vintage Tamiya Fox back in 1986-1987. Still got that old car but she's pretty tired nowadays. I would love to restore her one day. So I brought a new one , Nova Fox. I seem to remember my standard rs540 Tamiya motor was really fast back then. But since then I've brought much faster cars. And cut a long story short, I have a 15 turn coreRC motor which I've fitted but the motor wires are too short and don't reach the battery wires. So I was going to either solder on the longer Tamiya wires that came with the kit 540 motor onto the coreRC 15 turn motor. Either that or swage the wires to get the extension. But if the car goes quickly with the 27 turn 540 motor maybe I'll keep it stock. One point I'm really not happy about is how much play the front and rear wheel have. Like even more expensive RC cars can have a lot of play but the rear drive shafts can move at least 1mm -1.5mm laterally if manipulated by hand. And the front . It kind of feels sort of cheap and sloppy . I expect better from Tamiya. The other issue is tyre choices. I want to keep my Tamiya gold wheels and tires brand-new. So I swapped out some Louise phantom tyres then tried some Louise Spider tyres and wheels. They don't work because they scrape against the suspension arms in the rear. I'm kind of stuck now. Does anybody know what aftermarket wheels and tyres I can use without tyre rub on suspension arms? Any help is appreciated. Thanks for your tips in advance 👍
the wild one wheels and tires are identical . u might get away with hornet tyres or maybe dt02 wheels ? not sure because it is kinda unique build . maybe try putting o rings in the drive cups to lessen the play ? as for the motor … yeah any change requires extension to the wires . it’s quite quick on a stock but a tt would be better . i’d try it stock then upgrade if you feel the need tbh . these slow motion videos always make it look quicker . did u attach the e clips inside the gearbox to the driveshafts btw i did. have a few gearbox issues with mine . let me know how you get on . thanks for watching and i hope you enjoy the car 😊👍
@@rc-dom-uk hi Dom, yep I assembled it correctly. I did accidentally get the bevel gears wrong and had to put them in the correct side so the gearbox is as smooth as butter 👍 I had a vintage Tamiya Fox when I was 13-14 and still own it now ( around 1986-1987 ) and I do remember it was pretty fast. However I also recently built a re release Hornet and well I'm not sure if the 27 turn stock silver can motor used in the Hornet is as fast as the original RS540 mabuchi motor that was in my vintage Fox. Then again it could be lost in the mists of time. You know what seemed fast years ago to me when I was younger compared to now like 36 years later. But I seem to think the RS540 Mabuchi motor was made in Japan and was really fast. Now they're made in China and I actually don't know if it's made by mabuchi? I'm in Melbourne Australia and over here any Tamiya RC cars and parts are rare and difficult to source parts for. Very sporadic and only like in the last year are we seeing more Tamiya kits in the shops. As for individual parts that's another story. The Wild One uses the same wheels and tires and same tread pattern front and rear. The other option is buying a extended wheel hex so instead of 5 or 6 mm offset I need maybe 10 mm but then I could run out of thread to attach the wheel nuts? Possibly I have to but a Tamiya Wild One wheel and then try fitting aftermarket tires. I will ask my local hobby shop as there is a friend who works in the shop that races a Wild One. I will just ask what wheels and tires he uses. Thanks for your help too Dom 👍👌
no problem. hope you get it how ya want it . i find most rc cars fast tbh😂 i’m upgrading them to torque and sports tuned but that will do. lower speeds = less breaks ( usually) yeah getting tam tam parts anywhere can be a pain . i wish tamiya would support the models better . 👍
@@rc-dom-uk have you ever tried a Tamiya Super stock RZ motor? I have that motor in both my Hot Shot re release and my Super Hot Shot re release. And the Super Hot Shot goes faster than a Kyosho Fazer Chevy Camaro Z28. Super Hot Shot 45kmh (27mph) versus kyosho 42 kmh both using 2 S lipo battery. Probably my Tamiya goes better because it's a nvision lipo battery and the Kyosho uses a kind of generic lipo from a hobby shop? Not sure really because NVISION batteries are meant to be really good , but then Kyosho themself say the Fazer is only meant to be around 40 kmh on 2s lipo. Anyway I really like the Super stock RZ motor. Thanks mate 👌👍
Great footage as always and kinda reminds me of the old Tamiya promo vids! 👍 The Fox is one of my all time favorite buggies, looks wise. I really wanted one back in the day. Love what you did with the color scheme. Yeah, the Fox is a great RC, just a shame it's such a pain to access the electronics! 😅
Great video of my first tamiya buggy the fox.I have the novafox as well and the gearbox makes a clicking noise when hitting forward from a standing start. This i have found out is the diff slipping which causes this problem.
I bought new gears for it but have not put them in yet as it still goes ok just clicks when i hit full throttle from a standing start. This i have read about is a problem with this gearbox and some people have said to put shims in to stop the diff from skipping.
I took mine apart when it first started and gears were ok so put anti wear grease in it but stil clicks.Mine started when i went from reverse into forward on its first run.I would just keep running it unless it gets worse.
@@alastairmulholland2581 yeah I checked the gears and they aren’t worn . Could just be a design flaw I guess . If it plods on I ain’t to worried 👍 thanks for the advice mate . I just need to rebuild it again 😊😂I got in a strop and boxed it 😊😂😂
