From the design of Dio to Stands like Silver Chariot being indubitably bound to its user Polnareff. How he displayed stands was that which carried the soul of its user and through the fashion design language was able to express that clothing could be an element of that persons spirit. Your fashion literally stands by you, it is your stand to those with the capacity to see it. Only those with a stand can see your own, etc. But as time goes on, he has lost this essence, and we no longer wear fashion as much as it wears us. The expressiveness of the soul has moved onto our most superficial exterior ideal. A projection of the narcissistic ideal. Now the man no longer wears his clothing but the clothing wears the man. The bag doesn't carry anything, it holds things, as the bag is carried. The fashion becomes the goal, and not whats inside, and its ruined much of the substance of his work in the name of an ideal. Silver Chariot would look very different if designed today than when he was. He would be more what the world should see Polnareff as, and not the sharp, fragile, but determined machine that he truly was.
I can kind of see what you mean, but I feel a completely different vibe from the way he talks about fashion. I see it as something like clothing is what separates us from anything else in this world, not matter how crazy or weird the design is. And that in itself is what makes the people wearing the clothing so superior compared to anything else. I feel as if he believes only the best people should wear the best clothing (like a sign of pride and dignity). I think Araki still believes the clothing works for the person, but he wants others to see those characters so he makes their fashion really _stand_ out (so everyone will then see the true personality of the characters)
