This show was my introduction to Christine Baranski. She was the main reason I watched (with all due respect to Cybill who is Ab Fab) Over the years she has shown her versatility. Sublimely talented.
I had forgotten how great these 2 ladies are together- time to rewatch Cybill! Just finished The Good Wife / The Good Fight arc with Christine, too. She’s still gorgeous 25 years later.
Patsy Stone kicked off the "boozy/pill popping bestie" on Ab Fab. Maryann was the first American version of this character on "Cybill" which then continued with Nina Van Horn on "Just Shoot Me" and Karen Walker on "Will & Grace" These characters were frequently the scene stealers on their respective shows. Always there will a drink in hand, a gorgeous outfit and fast cutting one liner, it's no wonder why they remain popular as they generally got the biggest laughs.
Oh yeah, I remember this show. If I remember why it ended it was she kept out staging Cybil cause she got the funnier lines/bits that added to tension on the set. Christine is very talented at delivering lines.
I heard the main reason the show ended was that Harvey Weinstein was harassing Cybil Shepard and she told him NO to sexual advances ! He then ended the show.
@@marjoriegarland2798 I don’t doubt that cause she did do some interviews on age discrimination in Hollywood and said something how it cut her show short
Yeah, Cybil and Christine did an interview and were asked about rumors of jealousy on the set after Christine won the Emmy. Cybil, in true narcissistic fashion, said no she wasn’t jealous because she was the one that gave Christine the opportunity to win the Emmy. If it wasn’t for her and her show, there would be no Emmy. Christine sat there, very composed and lady like, with a blank face (that said what we were all thinking) and never lowered herself to react to Cybil’s inflammatory statements and outrageous conceit.
I think that Cybill was a slight American version of Absolutely Fabulous with Mary Ann as an more likeable version of Patsy and Cybill as an more likeable version of Eddy I'm just saying
Absolutely Fabulous and therefore this was a modern super consumerized version of the formula from The Lucy Show (1960s) with two widows instead of divorcees....originally set in Long Island suburbs... later moved to LA to have more celebrity drop ins. You can always find an earlier series or play to notice TV borrowing and adapting. TV is derivative.
So I ended up going to a Dentist named Dr Dick and every time his receptionist said his name is laugh. She made the mistake 😅f asking me why I laughed. After that I'd come in and she'd give me a stare. I had to find another dentist. It was worth it
Wow. This is strange. Isn't this the woman who played the superannuated mother in Dharma & Greg and in the 2 1/2 men series i binged on since covid era began? Video is like a weird time machine, scrambling the mind.
1. Dharma’s mom was Mimi Kennedy (regular “Chuck Lorre show” actress) & Greg’s mom, Kitty, was Susan Sullivan (was also on Falcon Crest & It’s a Living). 2. Holland Taylor was the mom on 2 & 1/2 Men… AND now *I* feel old for knowing these
kinda agree. I used to see a coupld of episodes. If you never watched the show, then these clips are especially weird. It doesn't really show Maryanns funniest bits---when she would go all banshee on her exhusband; setting traps and crazy on him
No matter how big or small, every role that Christine Baranski has ever played she completely owned the scene.
Christine Baransky is one of the greatest actresses ever.

She does haughty particularly well.
No wonder she won an Emmy for the role

What show are these clips from? Please and thank you
Cybil is not on any streaming service in the U.S.
how will you watch it?
Seeing Leonard's mom being animatedly sarcastic is scary and entertaining 😂

The original Karen Walker.
Megan Mulally actually thought the character was the same as Maryann when she first read for Will and Grace. She mentioned it in an interview.
I was thinking she was a bit Patsy Stone
@@kygladdish2554 Spot on!
Too true 5:59
What I wouldn’t give to put Maryann Thorpe, Karen Walker, Patsy Stone and, hear me out Mary Cherry in the same location, Survivor style.

Christine Baranski way outshone Cybil Shepard on this show. I watched it for Baranski.
@@JM-zk9ou Pretty much the only reason too, on the occasion if you stuck around after “The Nanny” the rest of the show wasn’t as entertaining.

Been a Baranski fan ever since
Great show.
Christine Baranski is fantastic as well as Cibill
I loved this show!
What show is this? I feel like I'm new to Earth
It's called Cybill, agreed great show!
I just saw one of her first movie roles - Robert Redford's mousy assistant in Legal Eagles.
I remember hearing that Cybil got mad at her for upstaging her all the time.
Such a great show
Hilarious!
i love it! thank you
Born for sarcasm
I think that Cybill was a slight American version of Absolutely Fabulous with Mary Ann as an more likeable version of Patsy and Cybill as an more likeable version of Eddy I'm just saying
Absolutely fabulous was not so good or attractive as you may be remembering it.
I believe this was the exact concept. And abfab is still hilarious as ever.

Exactly that!
@@briseboyit is but that’s cause I can enjoy it as humor of the time…..
Leonard’s mom was so frisky when she was younger.
Still one of the sexiest women ever on TV
Love them, love this show ! Fabulously hilarious 😂😂❤❤💞💞
Christine Baranski and Joanna Lumley need to play chaotic sisters nowww
She stole the show in that series! I watched it to see Mary Ann! Hilarious

Oh I love this
Wow, I'd forgotten (how could I?) how brilliant this was. It wasn't a regular on UK TV, which is another good reason not to live in the UK
Oh well. Another day. Another voodoo curse.
God, how I miss watching #Cybill!! ❤🌹💯
This show was basically the American AbFab.
She made that show!
Smoking hot body on Baranski!
Is Christine one of the most beautiful women in the world
Leonard's Mom never looked so good. ❤
I need more, please
Whatcha mean?
@@TreyWallaceThingsILike more Maryann Thorpe

Dharmas mom was also in the show Mom with Anna Farris
I love this show, where can i watch it
Does anyone else see the resemblance between Christine Baranski and Taylor Swift????
What is the show
Cybill
Mary anne thorpe....bel air rodeo drive channel van cleef arpels mercedes benz and secretary of the doctor Dick. 2024. 😅😂😅🇺🇸👌💎💍📿💄🎓👜🛍👗👒💝
Nathan Fillion's on screen mom.
My fave Maryann scene was her declaring a wish for a biscotti and cap before being executed. Good choice
She had beautiful legs
I like Cybil, but Christine was the scene stealer like Bruce was in Moonlighting. They both won Emmy’s! Cybil never won.
Emmy's what?
But why is she Patsy Stone 😂
I love these ladies but this is such a rip off of Ab FAb....is that what it was intended to be?
Yes I believe that was the exact concept
Sybil Shepherd is awful.
this is just not funny
