When I was in college, I worked for a Cadillac dealership, the owner, the nicest man I ever worked for, had a 57 with the stainless steel roof. The car was silver. Under the hood was three two barrel carburetors. New, 13,500 dollars.
Yes that’s the Eldorado brougham 4 door HT it was to one up the Continental which was the most expensive car made in a america by a major manufacturer I think Cunningham offered a car for $17k but wasn’t really for sale to anyone had to know someone for that car.. and Cadillac ( no that packard was pretty much gone, played second fiddle to no one). Those cars are cool I’ve featured one but I’d redo that one
Could have bought a modest home for that money, that year and in California to boot. $13,500.00 was a chunk of change that year😊
I think that is the a/c condenser in front of the radiator .
It very well could be he looked too big to be a oil cooler
An air conditioned convertible in 1957!?! Be still my heart. The original owner was definitely in high cotton, as we say in Texas. This car is a real show stopper!
Yeah this car has a lot of options I should’ve asked what the number was they haven’t listed it yet.. this car belongs to the man on the sign it’s johns car and he has 2 57 convertibles and a 58 the 58 is pink..
OMG! The '58 is the Elvis special! You have got to show us that one, too! Please.
I did that one long time ago I might redo it just like this episode
For 1957, all GM cars, except for Cadillac El Dorado Brougham 4 door hardtop sedan (with fender skirts as standard) does have 2 headlights, and for 1958 all GM cars does have 4 headlights as standard, across the board.
There probably aren't very many places on earth where you can find two 1957 Eldorado convertibles parked side by side. I'm 69, I've never seen two at the same time. You're a very lucky person!😁
Truth be told there is a third one and it’s a 58 and it’s pink =)
The gold hubcaps/ wheel cover would look gaudy on any other car
This car is gorgeous, until you get to the rear end. It could be in serious competition with the '60 and '61 Imperials and '61 full size Dodges for Fugliest @$$Ever. It's a shame too, because the non-Biarritz Eldo's and other '57 Caddy's have very handsome rear ends. I absolutely LOVE those rims! I'm picturing them on a non-Biarritz in midnight blue. THAT would be a show stopper. Not that this one isn't... except for the butt. Did I mention I REALLY don't like the rear end? LOL WYR: 1) You know it's gotta be a Lincoln. 🙂 2) "56 or a '58 non-Biarritz... So looking forward to the 11th! Got it written on my calendar, and noted o my phone with reminders starting on the 10th. J, you should be extremely proud of what you have accomplished, and this little family of car-kooks you've created! Congrats my friend! Nothing but the best wishes for you going forward!
I think the 57 Eldos are possibly the most beautiful car ever made -- esp the rear end! To each his own!
@@joelkoosed902 No prob, guy! Why there are so many offerings out there. I happen to think the '61 full size Plymouth's are beautiful something I know I'm in the extreme minority on... LOL I think it's the "bump" fin design. I'm not a fan of the '57-'60 Plymouth's, but love the same years Dodge's. The fins are more elongated and have a squared off trunk lid. Gotta hand it to Caddy back then... they did have style!
Packard Everytime I❤❤❤
Great Caddy
I Enjoyed this Episode
Happy Motoring ✌️🤠
Congratulations on your upcoming 500th video.
Thank you =) it’s come a long way and honestly can’t wait to see what growth happens when we reach 1,000
I'd go with the '57 Eldorado in both scenarios. That is one beauty that I can still remember seeing on the road as a very young kid. These were the barges the rich folk drove as my dad wrenched on a Triumph station wagon (talk about rare) & then a '59 Renault Dauphine (also rare...and junk!)
It's amazing how neither Ford's Lincoln nor Chrysler's Imperial came anywhere close to matching Cadillac in sales or prestige.
Nicely done sir......
Thank you glad you dig this episode
💋
WYR: Kinda liked the Lincoln. The '56 is my choice; nicer Dagmars!
Hahaha nice sweet choices
IN MY LIFE I OWED A 1975 CADILLAC ELDORADO WHITH ON WHITE. IT WAS A WONDERFUL CAR THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH IT IT WAS A GAS HOG IT COST ME $75 TO FILL HER UP BUT IT WAS AGOOD LOKER AND IT WAS FUN TO DRIVE
WYR
Cadillac
56 Cadillac
Owning one or even driving one is a sure fire cure for boredom
Sweet choices
For me that was the best luxury car I have seen on any TH-cam channel. The appointments are outstanding, in side and out. The interior looks like the lounge of a 5 star hotel. I prefer the body design of the 56. The only draw back I see is the top, seems kind of like an afterthought. I didn't even talk about that super clean engine compartment... now I did. LOL. What a sweet machine.
8:02 If you google for
1953 war of the worlds alien ship
... that "hood" design and the "hood" over the headlights of these Caddy's reminds me of one another.
I’ll take the 57 Eldo, to be honest I would prefer a Series 62, I like the fin better.
Such a gorgeous automobile! So classy, attractive, attentive to every detail. So damn sad we have lost all these things today. BTW , you said that this cost $7,000+ in 1957. My parents bought a brand new ranch house that year in a Detroit suburb. The cost was $12,000.
Hi Jay...It's not Burritz...It's BEE AIR RITZ.
Hard to imagine anyone buying a Lincoln in 1957 when comparing it to the Cadillac
I'd pass up both the Lincoln and the Cadillac from that year for the Continental Mark II
WYR: 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible - Hands down! Born in 1953. My family doctor, a GP, had a blue hardtop coupe version, that he parked in his office driveway. Always loved the design. The Packard Hawk was also a rare bird, a variant of the Studebaker Golden Hawk.
Sweet choices thank you for sharing that memory =)
That is a gorgeous shade of blue, and the paint looks perfect! That thing you thought was an oil cooler was the A/C condenser. That behemoth A/C compressor was an axial 5 cyl design that weighed at least 40-50lbs. That was replaced by the far superior A6 Frigidaire compressor (which is also a behemoth, but not as much)) starting in 62. WYR= Lincoln and the 57 Caddy. Was it me, or were there two buttons by the dimmer switch? That second button could be for changing stations on the radio. Great job again, Jay!
This is a gorgeous auto, and one of my favorite Cadillac designs of the '50's. I do love the Premier also, but I do like this particular model of the Caddy better, and on the second I would probably go with the '58 , although one of each of the '57 and '58 El Dorado would be really sweet! I think I do like the single headlight design on this model better. Nice period ads also😎🤟
I do have scale models of the 1957 Eldorado made by Solido. My cars of choice would be the '58 Packard Hawk and the '56 Eldorado.
What a beautiful and unique car you've featured here, Jay. And in a great color combination! I'll take the Lincoln Premiere and the ;57 Eldorado.
When cars were an architectural work of art! Thank you for posting another great video!!! 😊
Thank you so much for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed this video. =)
I liked the 66 Cadillac, before that there hasn’t been one to appeal to me since 55. In your WYR scenario, I would take a Studebaker any day.
Had a 61 baritz dorado once i raced a 57eldo with a 300hp 62chev conv he beat the doors off me .co worker bob greenquist new Milford nj. Rip .
I awing by there when I'm in the area- usually a few times a year. They've always got great stuff!
Yeah it’s a pretty cool place to stop and visit
Whether you own an old Caddy or other classic vehicle or not you’ll always have the best memories
Cadillac sure had lots of style back in the day 59 is still one of my favorites
0:25 Love the rubber Dagmars!
These cars were the ultimate in prestige for the time, if you had the money. I wonder why they deleted the rear bumper from 56 to 57. Definitely an expensive place to get hit. To me though, these Eldorados of the 50s seem to be a little awkward looking. Cadillac, got to be more ostentatious than Lincoln and Imperial. I particularly like the extra camera footage at the end of your videos. I hope you keep doing that.
I will that’s all the b roll you guys never get to see all of it. Depeche Mode, say enjoy the silence, but the silence is kind of deafening I gotta figure out music or something to put there even if I have to record my own music..
I’m going to try to do my best to shoot every single angle of the vehicles going forward after this batch of cars then you guys can see every single angle every single panel. I think it would be a really good addition.
@@What.its.like. I don't mind the silence. Whatever works.
Heavy looking but sparkly. Love it actually.
Beautiful car Jay - and very extravagant !!
Yeah it is =)
rear brake lights I've never seen front brake lights
Packard hawk!
Sweet choice
I love these interiors! Wow! Buck Rogers!
Another awesome video!...Regarding would you rather, thought the 1957 Lincoln Premier styling was great too!!...Know you’ve done a video on the 1956 Lincoln Premier so maybe there’s a 1957 in your future!!!
Happy you dig this episode. I would love to feature another 56 premiere just like featuring this car again this channel is definitely come along way in two years. I’ve been looking for a 57 Lincoln premier I’m still looking those are really hard to find really want to cover more 50s cars. I went to a car show today and just drove through. It was a big car show but I get disappointed every time I go because all the cars that I’m into are not at regular shows.
Just like to congratulate you. 500 episodes. That's quite an impressive accomplishment. Obviously, it is a labor of love. It's nice that you found this for you. And, for us!
I’ve always been into weird and unusual cars but there’s never any information on the weird and unusual cars. I wish I would’ve started this 10 years ago… but happy to be doing it now, and to be fair this is only the 2nd year so happy with how things have evolved.. I was hoping to be a little more articulate and better at delivering which needs worked on
But thank you =)
@What.its.like. I'm sorry to disagree with you. Absolutely no need to try to be more articulate. All that would do is make you self-conscious and start to sound like that scuzzy AI narration crap. Really. Just right the way you are. Work on something else instead, if you feel you must.
Haha better with words better delivery but, thank you so much for digging this channel
OMG…what a STUNNING CAR..!!
I just returned from the MONACO GP…and I can just imagine the reaction to this gorgeous convertible in a destination like that…FRONT ROW parking @ Casino Monte-Carlo..!!
(People would ignore the Bugattis…and take selfies with this pleasure yacht..!)
I really covet the beautiful green Biarritz ragtop parked next to this one…
Listen to the song “LOOK AT THAT CADILLAC” by the Stray Cats…this song was clearly written for this eyeful of car-candy…
Love your channel- keep it up..!!
Did you have fun at Monaco Grand Prix? Have you ever been there before?
I would love to go to the festival of speed in England..
Did you get to see any type 35 Bugatti‘s? That’s my favorite one of my favorite cars of all time if I had more money than brains I would buy one and I would drive it every day. Per sang of course can’t afford a real but if I had 450 grand to spend on a car I don’t know if I could just buy one. I’m definitely in the camp if I had $100,000 I would try to buy 10 $10,000 cars or 20 $5000 cars I don’t know I’m wired different
I don't know why, but the 1957 Cadillac line SPECIFICALLY says "Rock N Roll Cadillac" to me.
Even though the '58s were cool, they just don't seem as cool as the 57's do (to me).
Especially the standard-bodied cars like the Series 62, the Deville and the Fleetwood.
The 58's just seem TOO heavy.
And that '57 Eldorado is truly something else.
I think they were stretching it with all the extra chrome on the '58.
Then there were the Broughams... '57-'60... All incredibly Space Age.
By the way... Whoever restored that particular car WASN'T fooling around. It looks absolutely brand new in every respect.
This car is incredible
Hey Jay,
Been watching these on My TV Screen So couldn’t Comment,Though this car is Awesome,I prefer the 4 Door Hardtop,Actually prefer Hardtop in all car Makes & Model’s,Wish there was a safe way to bring them back in automotive design ,the 4 Door Hardtop I guess was Rare ,from what you said in the video ,I saw one on another Channel ,Man you could barely tell there were 4 doors. When I was younger liked 2 doors & Convertibles ,but to me 4 door Hardtops Rule! Thanks for such a Fantastic Channel
Awesome, you bet happy your still here digging this channel =)
1:20 Congrats on FIVE HUNDRED episodes!
Thank you =)
Hi Jay! Have tp admit I DON"T like the front end styling of the 1957 or 1958 Cadillac. Why in the world Harley's boys decided to push the Dagmars/Bumperettes up into where the hood opens is beyond me. The rest of the car looks GOOD. I think they just missed it on the front end. Trying to be cute and make it even MORE aggressive looking. To be absolutely truthful, I like the GAUDY 1959 better. It may be that I am a BIG fan of the 1953-56 models. They look like CADILLACS to me. That being said, that '57 is gorgeous on the inside! I bet that would be SO comfortable to drive around in! The ride must be great! If only you could get in and drive without looking at the front end!! WYR#1 1957 Lincoln Premiere LOVE that design! If you look closely you will see styling cues from the Lincoln Futura show car (later on to become the 1966 Batmobile). #2 1956! That one is SWEET!
Great insight and information
WYR1 - 57 Caddy. WYR - 58 Caddy. Not even close.
Love the visits to places outside PA. I know time is tight. Appreciate the effort on behalf of us folks at home.
Most definitely I tried to go to more more than just one place and I tried to go outside the state and mix it up as much as possible.. and a lot of times content last more than the month I try to mix it up with the cars as well, but I shoot cars as I find them.. I still have stuff from Gilmore which I went there a while ago =)
Wheels on this car are called SABER WHEELS. They are not wheel covers. They are a VERY expensive option. There was a gentlemen in my town who owned a 1957 Eldorado Seville coupe. He was the owner of Clipper petroleum company, the distributor for American oil products. His wife always had a new Fleetwood 60S or Brougham.
The 1957 Cadillac El Dorado at that time costs more than a Rolls Royce. Miraculously The El Dorado was only for Elvis Presley, only.
That was a brougham
Great video, Jay! I never saw this model in person, so you really got close views of the outside and inside. The dashboard is dazzling with all that stainless steel! I’d be so distracted with all that shiny metal. I believe the Biarritz model you show was the high level trim that gave you the gold on the grill, wheel covers and elsewhere. Thanks for sharing this model!
Wow I can’t believe you’re approaching 500 videos! I was watching from the beginning and enjoy your consistent method of showing the models, stats, engine and exterior/interior of the actual car. It’s a winning formula! Congratulations! 🍾
Thank you so much for all the positive vibes =) and added information
To me the front end is homely but I'd forgive that if I had a chance to own one because everything else is wonderful. I'd choose the Packard Hawk and the 1958 Eldorado.
Sweet choices i’m with you I think the 58 looks better even though a lot of people think the 57 when compared to the 58 looks better but there’s something about this quad headlights and the 58 is rare
Cadillac
1956 Eldorado Seville
Sweet choices
The Eldorado was never a rear engine car.
Great catch I’m dyslexic. I meant to say front engine rear wheel drive and then they went to front engine front wheel drive.
@@What.its.like. To tell the truth, I'm sydlicex too!
2:12 Rear engine?😁 I'm pretty sure this model has three carburetors under the gold batwing housing. WYR 57 Eldo for both!
Yeah that was a moment of dyslexic.. it was supposed to say front engine rear drive then front engine front drive
WYR Caddy
WYR 1958
Glorious cars all of them are top shelf. I think you deserve that car Jay.
=) great choices
57 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz all day
Jay, you always give a great presentation. Notice inside the glove box there was another smaller black button; it is for the automatic trunk release.
Thank you
Thank you so much for pointing that out
I prefer the 58 with the quad headlights
58' Caddy.
I like the grill better.
WYR 1. Eldo , Linc a close second, pass on the Packardbaker 2. Any of the above.
Awesome choices
First pick 57 Lincoln, second either 57 or 58 Eldorado, love the color of that car.
Sweet choices
The Eldorado and the 56 Eldorado - I love the fake side air intakes on it and the front wheel openings. Do that 69 Camaro next!!!
I will definitely do the 69 Camaro. I have to go back for that one that one has some really awesome seats. They are plaid orange plaid.
That car is awesome! Wish I could afford it. I'd take it over any of the others.
=)
Beautiful car!! Gas filler seems kinda awkward tho...
Very awkward
I’d take the packard hawk all day long, and my second choice is the 58 eldo
Sweet choices =)
Beautiful car
Yeah it is
The Lincoln then 58.
One nice looking car.
Cadillac did not have front wheel drive until 1967
Yes
Jay- your voice sounded different in this episode. You ok?
Allergies.. trying different delivery methods
I had five people tell me my voice sucked yesterday so try different things.. the narrator sucks is what I get
And my voice is something I struggle with
1958 Eldorado.
57 Lincoln, 58 Eldorado.
Sweet choices
I would take the Lincoln and the 1958.
Sweet choices
WYR: All of them.
NTT: Born In The USA by Bruce Springsteen, aka The Boss.
Great choices. No, it’s not that song or band.
@@What.its.like. Gave it the ol' educated guess. Maybe I'll get it eventually.
What a spectacular motorcar, Jay. Love it!
Totally agree
Stunning.
For WYR, it’s the ‘57 El Dorado for both scenarios. This was a beautiful car.
I visited Martin Car Museum in Glendale, AZ today with my sister. One of the cars is a 1957 Cadillac El Dorado Brougham, four door, black. Another beautiful car, but unfortunately it was locked up! I could only wistfully look though its windows to try to get a feel for it. Oh well…I’m going back sometime in the future.
I really liked how you slowly went over the car at the end. You really captured the essence of this car.
At the end of this episode it was all the b roll that you guys never see I figured of adding it at the end most of these cars are for sale.. it would really help both those who are potential buyers and those putting these cars back together
Thank you so much for sharing when you saw the four door I wonder if all the 4 doors survive
@@What.its.like. I think you should add it on. It gives more of a feel of the car.
Never seen this one before; I'd have remembered that hideous looking rear end. The details and amenities are top level, but you'd expect that from a car which cost as much as a small house.I wonder if an AM/FM radio was available back then? That would be the only thing missing here. The beginning of the "Chromemobile era" this one is at the top, not over the top like coming cars would be. WYR the Packard looks good in that color and to me the 56 Eldorado is the epitome of Cadillac styling
I don't remember seeing an AM/FM radio in anything until about 1959... And even then, the radios themselves were rare to be *AM/FM*... Instead, there'd be an AM radio in the dash and there'd be an added-on FM head unit under the dash, with it's own tuning knob.
I'm pretty sure it was Chrysler that offered the first inclusive AM/FM dash units, though.
But don't quote me... My memory is failing with age😢
Cheers
@@slicksnewonenow Don't recall AM/FM in any car in '57.
@@slicksnewonenow Thanks! I was thinking it was about that time. Almost 65 my own memory ain't so hot anymore either but so far I haven't forgotten my pants before stepping out he door so it could be worse😛
Is the interior original? It looks so pristine.
I think it is
'58 Packard Hawk, '58 Eldorado
Sweet choices
Love this car! Awesome!
Totally agree
Have you ever seen a 1904 Autocar four-passenger car or any car by Autocar? I see nothing on TH-cam. How rare is an Autocar passenger car?
I have never seen a auto car car I’ve seen trucks before the cars are rare
@What.its.like. Apparently, the Smithsonian has one. You say you specialize in "orphan cars", well, an Autocar that's an actual passenger car could be an interesting twist to the theme of your channel 🤔
If I ever find one, I will totally do it not sure if I’ll get to DC this year
@What.its.like. It must be pretty rare. I don't see one in Jay Lennos' collection. I found another one in Henry Fords collection. In 1898, Clarke and his team built "The Pittsburgher", a four-wheeled runabout car that is now in the Henry Ford Museum.
A little car history. In 1957 all cars had two headlights. The law changed in 1958 and almost American cars had four headlights.
Yes =) thank you so much for sharing that
That law is a bit weird because there were cars before like 20s 30s that had huge accessory lights which could be used as bright lights
@What.its.like. True, but those lights were six volts and not very bright. Then with the 50's came the 12 volt system and the sealed beam headlight. Those were much brighter then anything that came before. The next big improvements was the alternator
57 El Dorado Brougham had quad lights along with 57 Imperials and Chrysler New Yorkers, never seen those care with dual headlights that were sold in Texas, I think we approved the quads before the other states.
1957 Nash had quad headlights as standard equipment. They were optional on Mercury, Desoto, Chrysler and Imperial. 1956 and 1957 Lincolns had single headlights with driving lights below which many people mistake for quad headlights.
@@danielulz1640 Forgot about the Nash, I do remember seeing lots of 57 Mercurys , Desotos, and the cheaper Chryslers with both dual and quad lights.
The narrator is uninformed 57 has two turn indicators not a fog light
I said that in comparison
4 speed auto? Did it have an overdrive?
Very short 1st gear
The original hydra matic was a 4 speed then they went to a three speed unit weird right..
The HydraMatic 315 introduced by Cadillac in 1956 was a 4 speed, non-overdrive unit. It was replaced by the Turbo-Hydramatic 3 speed torque converter unit in 1964.
@@stephenholland5930 Thanks 👍
