  • Dear Americans, I love you all, I really do. But when it comes to Marmite, you haven't got a clue. So here I'll demonstrate, by making the traditional British breakfast of Boiled Eggs and Marmite Soldiers. I'll also show how brilliant halogen ovens are for making boiled eggs, and what an egg cup is!

    Always use margarine or butter on your bread etc and then use around half a teaspoon (according to taste) Loverly jubberly!

    The Marmite isn’t spread thickly…but the butter sure is! And I call those toast fingers.

    Americans do have egg cups but they're usually over 80 years old

      Since making the vid, I’ve learnt that you are right. Although, it does seem a bit regional. That’s just an impression, easily overturned by actual evidence!

    I did learn something, boiled eggs in a halogen oven, I would probably give it an extra minute though!! Thanks for the tip.

      they can be baked in any oven really

      @@RJ-wx3fh Five years on, and with the popularity of air dryers these days, are the days of the halogen oven numbered? We have not used our halogen oven for quite a few years now, but use our air dryer around three to 4 times a week.

      @@CamcorderSteve u;timately, i think there'll always be a market for a 'new' or 'improved' convection oven, particularly for countertop models.
      the core components of heating element, fan and enclosure don't really change performance between , say 2kw countertop cooking appliances. i think air fryers and halogen ovens are about the same, having owned both, but it's like microwaves, kettles or toasters where i've never noticed a difference between models of equivalent power ratings

      I think you might be right, but I’m happy to keep on using mine until it dies, then I’ll replace it with an air fryer

    I usually just get a spoon and eat it out of the jar
    Or I put it on crackers or breadsticks
    But tbh the best way is marmite on crumpets with tea

      I can’t do the spoon thing with Marmite, but during lockdown I have found myself doing that with peanut butter

    Just wondering on a matter of best practice: I saw that you used the same knife for the butter and then the Marmite without cleaning in between. Wouldn't the butter get into the jar and make the Marmite rancid afterwards?

      Good point. I’m a slob

    • @aethellstan
      @aethellstan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In a word...no. Remember Marmite is around 6% salt (yes it is!) Good luck any germs living in that. I love Marmite and have never had a problem with butter going off in it and I always use the same knife.

    That is way too much for people who never had marmite before and probably for most people who consider themselves marmite lovers. I just watched 2 videos of Brits showing americans how not to use too much marmite and both saying they are spreading it more thickly than most English people. I think that's kinda defeating the object.

      I watched one vid where someone who had never had it before took a teaspoon and ate it neat! Unsurprisingly he didn’t like it

    I like Marmite very thinly on toast .But I don't understand the soft boiled egg . Cackling it open and when your done eating , 30% of the egg is stuck to the shell and wasted . Maybe I'm a cheap American .

    • @zimondye
      @zimondye  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol there is considerable skill necessary to extract all the egg from the shell, not helped by the fact that they’re red hot. I perhaps don’t demonstrate that well in this vid
