  • Come to Kingspan Breffni Park on October 19 and Croke Park on October 26 to see the AFL team perform their War Cry.
The War Cry currently performed by the Australian International Rules team is an authentic Australian war dance developed by young Indigenous AFL players. The War Cry was part of the cultural and leadership development for the Flying Boomerangs, the AFL's U15 development team. The tour to Papua New Guinea in March 2009 was the first time it was performed. Knowing that the local teams would have a war dance, the Flying Boomerangs developed one to respond appropriately.
The team visited a cultural centre in Cairns and learned some dance moves, which they added to, based on their own knowledge.

"is an authentic Australian war dance " does not follow from, "visited a cultural centre in Cairns and learned some dance moves, which they added to,". One moment it is authentic and the next it is being pulled together from "some dance moves". Again this is the painful truth in regard to Indigenous culture. It is either "secret" or it is made up as they go. Oh dear.

This is so shit. Even the players are laughing at it. I been in oz for over 40 years and I have never heard an Australian war chant. Cry or what ever. Just play the game of afl rugby and what have you and leave the war chants to the other Pacific Islanders that have been doing it for now some over a century. Australia isn’t as one as New Zealand ppl are with their heritage white or brown so why do it? It’s kind of embarrassing really

What a ridiculous joke. What language is that?? When was it performed ?? By whom and for what reason ?? It is not my "war cry". A non-representative foible.
