    The Winter Soldier is generally considered one of the best comic book movies. Definitely an S tier film.

    What i like about this movie so much is that it has awesome non-superpower action. Whereas with iron man you have his suit or Thor and the hulk they have their certain abilities. Yes Cap has the supersoldier serum but this is just amazing fight choreography

      Genius casting Robert Redford in the movie as the movie feels like a 70s conspiracy thriller which Redford starred in many of those.

    One of the best movies Marvel has ever made. I still watch it every time it comes on tv- though I’ve memorized the lines by now. ❤Bucky!

      This is probably my second favorite Marvel movie. I fell in love with Bucky in the First Avenger, and as soon as we saw him on the screen I just exclaimed "BUCKY!" super loud in the threater lol. Oups.

    Originally, especially in the theaters, Bucky's face was better obscured in the shadows when he's talking to Pierce. But in the HD TV world with some different lightness settings, etc, you get a better look at his face and it kind of ruins the reveal. Granted, anyone familiar with the comic books knew it would be Bucky, but those who didn't know were less likely to be spoiled by that scene.

      I'm from Southeastern Europe where American comics are neither popular nor available so I haven't read a single comic before the movies. I also became a Marvel fan like two-three years ago. Now I don't know how it was in the cinema but when I watched this movie for the first time I watched it on my laptop and saw the scene at Pierce's house had enough light that even though only his eyes were supposed to be visible and the rest was supposed to be 'obscured by shadows', Bucky's whole face was visible. I also found it weird that Steve didn't recognize Bucky's eyes on the rooftop scene where he threw his shield at the Winter Soldier (yes, it was night, but Steve's a supersoldier with enhanced sight, he probably doesn't have problems seeing in the dark). (And then again he didn't recognize his eyes when they fought on the bridge, before he managed to knock his muzzle off...). I found it weird because Bucky's supposed to be his closest person beside Sarah and they grew up together and were inseparable, not to mention Steve had just gone to the Smithsonian and had just seen Bucky's part. So how come Steve couldn't recognize Bucky's eyes?! For me this is the biggest flaw of the entire movie.

    It's going to be a little emotional and unrelated to the movie, but your relationship with your son is beautiful. My relationship with my father was cold and distant. When I become a father, it makes me very happy to be able to establish a relationship with my child like yours. English is not my native language, sorry if there is any mistake in what I wrote :) Great reaction

      Aww thank you so much for that heartfelt comment my friend. I didn't have the best relationship with my dad growing up so I guess I'm making the most of it being the dad. I know when I'm gone he will always have these videos to watch back to see how much fun we had.

    Captain America The Winter Soldier, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, & Black Panther are my favorite Marvel movies. All these movies have one thing in common great action scenes , a thrilling story, great villains, & some of the best characters I've ever seen in any superhero movie.

    8:50 that is Georges Batroc A.K.A Batroc the Leaper. he is a French mercenary, created by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby, and in the comics he wears a mask and spandex.
    41:13 that guy is one of the directors Joe Russo, he and his Anthony Russo (collectively known as the Russo brothers) directed this movie, Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). and all 4 of those movies are marvels best.

    This is my favorite solo MCU movie an absolute masterpiece . It's there with Guardians and Black Panther . And to have the absolute legend Robert Redford is just icing on the cake but the twist is the who damn candy store one of the greatest twists in the MCU. And yes this one has a very emotional story.

    The reason that Batroc (the guy played by George St Pierre) was so tough is because he'd also had a version of the super-soldier serum (Batroc is one of Cap's enemies from the comics).
    While it's not implicitly stated in this movie, most countries in the MCU have been trying to recreate Cap's super-soldier serum since the end of World War 2, with varying degrees of success. The Hulk and Bucky are two more examples of these covert experiments.

    My all time favorite MCU movie, even though Iron Man is my favorite character. Great story, superb acting, well executed action scenes. I'm surprised you were able to identify the Winter Soldier as Bucky from the kitchen scene, that was impressive...well done. 👍👍

    This is the start of one of the best Marvel friendships in the MCU between Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff. This is where Natasha really commits to the team and Steve learns to trust her. Neither Steve nor Natasha had any place other than Shield they could have called home. But they both learned that they could forge a friendship that transcended those constrictions. Steve has acquired his long time comic book partner The Falcon as well and the two of them comprise a formidable duo. This movie really heated up the stakes in the MCU and the hunt for The Winter Soldier will take us down some deep and harrowing twists and turns. Remember Natasha's final advice to Steve about maybe not pulling on that thread. Black Widow is a bit like Fury, even her secrets have secrets.

    Little detail. The screeching noise in the winter soldier’s theme is a mixed version of Bucky’s scream when he fell off the train.

    It really helps imho that the movie feels more grounded in reality than some of the other MCU movies. Superheros work best imho when a lot of the focus is on the people vs just on the powers.

    The revelation in this movie basically forced the Agents of SHIELD TV show still airing at the time to do a kind of "soft reboot," and most people think it made the show much better. There's even an episode where you see their perspective of SHIELD falling in this movie. Of course MOST of the lead characters are the good ones, so they're not corrupted by Hydra. Not a huge spoiler but those characters continue to run like a secret mini-SHIELD. Though as the MCU movies and the series went on, most people think the show kind of doesn't fit into the movie continuity. But with all the multiverse stuff popping up, who knows?

      Actually, the Hydra reveal on "Agents of Shield" was always planned. That was when Marvel Movie division still shared information with the Television division. But as time went on, the animosity between the department heads (Kevin Fiege and Ike Perlmutter, respectively) grew to the point where the movies division refused to share info of the upcoming project plots with the television division. Fiege still holds some level of animosity (even though he was able to force Perlmutter out) to the point where he acknowledges the failed Marvel tv series "The Inhumans" but is still threatening to de-canonize "Agents of Shield". Kind of funny since something significant that happens in "Age of Ultron" wouldn't have happened without "Agents of Shield" (Theta Protocol - not a spoiler since the term is not used in the movie).

    The Captain America trilogy of movies is by far and away the best individual trilogy in the MCU. Nothing compares to the storylines, the fighting, just everything. Can't wait for the upcoming reactions boys!

    Marvel does a spy thriller and they do it so well! I think this would be my 3rd rated Marvel film: behind End Game and Infinity War and ahead of Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy. Just think, you haven't even gotten to the best of Marvel yet. I can't wait until you finish the journey to Infinity War. Sure there is plenty of action and super hero stuff along the way but the last two movies are just so emotionally satisfying. Totally worth your time investment. Oh, I forgot about Spiderman - he's in the top as well. Enjoy and please stay with it. Thx

    Like another person said, I'd really recommend Agent Carter. Its an underrated show. It shows the life of characters who wear left behind whnr Steve vanished.

    Fun fact: the man that whispered hail hydra is the senate leader from iron man 2. So the justice system in the mcu is corrupted by hydra

    I don't wanna be THAT guy, but Captain America was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Stan Lee was smart enough to bring him into the Avengers. #4 if I'm not mistaken

    Hey, Kev and Lewis! Marvel films hit their stride with "Winter Soldier" and it remains one of the highest regarded films in the saga. The movie represents a tonal shift in the MCU towards mature, gritty storytelling with real-world consequence which roped in many non-superhero enthusiasts. It was made in the style of 1970s political thrillers like "Three Days of the Condor" and "The Parallax View" with a healthy dose of "The Manchurian Candidate". As with all the best espionage films, the story was expertly filled with twists, double-crosses, skullduggery and shocking revelations culminating with an incredible race-against-the-clock crisis. Showing Captain America break faith with the institutions he serves due to his disillusionment with systemic corruption is extraordinary and demonstrates his integrity. The plot is drawn from 'The Winter Soldier' arc of Ed Brubaker's legendary 134-issue run on "Captain America" during the 2000s. Paired with the moody, naturalistic illustrations of Steve Epting, the duo revitalized the character and his supporting cast for post-modern readers. The bold move of resurrecting Bucky Barnes and reframing his legacy was a stroke of brilliance that left an impactful mark on latter-day Marvel comics. The element of SHIELD being infiltrated by subversives is drawn from the 1988 limited series "Nick Fury vs. SHIELD" written by Bob Harras and illustrated by Paul Neary. The Triskelion as the headquarters for SHIELD was lifted directly from Marvel's secondary Ultimate Universe line although the film locates it in DC on the Potomac whereas the comics set it in New York Harbor. Similarly, the technological interpretation of Falcon is a nod to the Ultimate iteration of the character whereas the original Marvel iteration can telepathically communicate with birds and has a glider harness with mylar wings and titanium ribbing.
    Co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo were untested filmmakers who landed the plum gig after Kevin Feige saw their two-episode stint on the TV sitcom "Community"! Nevertheless, the brothers knocked this film out of the park and were tapped again to continue guiding the good Captain's adventures down the line. The action sequences are phenomenally staged but grounded enough that you feel the weight of each impact and only realize you're watching a superhero film when Steve intermittently exceeds human limits. The opening hostage rescue, the Fury ambush, the sniper attack, the elevator brawl, the Quinjet takedown, the freeway chase, the underpass shoot-out and the climactic Triskelion assault are all top-tier set pieces that are thrilling to watch! Despite wall-to-wall action, there is enough downtime to prevent fatigue, to advance plot like Hydra's insidious long-game and to build character like Steve's bedside scene with a senile Peggy. I especially like the use of the real-life 'Operation: Paperclip' in which 1,500 German scientists and engineers were granted amnesty and recruited by the CIA's precursor, the OSS, to work for the US government. In the film, Hydra scientists like Arnim Zola use the opportunity of this brain-drain to embed themselves in SHIELD from its very inception.
    The cast is remarkable. Steve Rogers comes into sharp focus here and Chris Evans truly made the Captain his own the third time around. Carrying over from "The First Avenger", Sebastian Stan returns as a grimly resurrected James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes aka The Winter Soldier, Toby Jones lends his voice to the disembodied digital form of Dr. Arnim Zola and Hayley Atwell briefly appears as an aged Peggy Carter. Anthony Mackie makes a strong, likable impression as Sam Wilson aka Falcon as does Emily VanCamp as undercover Agent 13. They join returning allies Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Samuel L. Jackson as Col. Nick Fury who gets showcased in a hair-raising action sequence all his own! Having an actor of Robert Redford's stature play Alexander Pierce was not only a casting coup but paid tribute to his role in "Three Days of the Condor"! Rounding out the villain roster is Frank Grillo as a pre-Crossbones Brock Rumlow and UFC welterweight champion Georges St.-Pierre as French mercenary Georges Batroc the Leaper, two traditional Cap antagonists. Callan Mulvey plays the itchy trigger-fingered double-agent Jack Rollins. Maximiliano Hernandez as Agent Jasper Sitwell, who was introduced in "Thor" and was seen throughout the saga in films, One-Shots and "Agents of SHIELD" episodes, is revealed as a Hydra sleeper along with Garry Shandling as Senator Stern returning from "Iron Man 2". The head of Hydra himself, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, played by Thomas Kretschmann, puts in a cameo for the end-credit scene as do the Maximoff twins, Pietro aka Quicksilver and Wanda aka Scarlet Witch, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. World Security Council members leave their shadowed holo-conference screens to show up in person this time with European representative Hawley, played by Jenny Agutter, being the only returnee from "Avengers". North American Councilman Rockwell is played by Alan Dale, South Asian Councilman Singh is played by Bernard White and East Asian Councilman Yen is played by Chin Han. Steven Culp and Nestor Serrano have bit parts as irate Congressional Committee members who grill Natasha. Gary Sinise lends his voice to the Captain America Smithsonian exhibit as narrator.
    TRIVIA:
    1. Nick Fury relates that his grandfather was an elevator operator which is what Samuel L. Jackson's real-life grandfather did for a living.
    2. When Alexander Pierce opens his refrigerator, a jar of Newman's Own sauce is clearly visible as an homage to the two times Redford and Paul Newman shared the screen.
    3. Steve's catch-up list differed by country but had seven fixed items: Thai food, Star Wars, Star Trek, Nirvana, Rocky, Rocky II and Troubleman. The countries for which items were added to the list include the US, the UK, Australia, Italy, France, Spain, Russia, Brazil, South Korea, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking countries of South America collectively.
    4. Nick Fury's tombstone bears the epitaph "The path of the righteous man. Ezekiel 25:17". This was Jules Winnfield's favorite verse in "Pulp Fiction", a character Jackson is famous for playing.
    5. The Winter Soldier's moniker comes from the Thomas Paine quote that "the summer soldier and sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman." 'He' is the winter soldier, the inverse of 'the summer soldier'.
    EASTER EGGS:
    1. When Steve and Natasha enter the old SHIELD headquarters at Camp Lehigh, they find portraits of SHIELD's three founders: Colonel Chester Phillips, Howard Stark and Peggy Carter.
    2. Sitwell reveals Zola's algorithm is targeting potentially problematic persons of interest like Bruce Banner and Stephen Strange. This is the first reference to Doctor Strange in the saga.
    3. Agent 13's real name is revealed as Sharon by Natasha. This hints at her familial tie to another MCU character for comic readers who know the implication of the name.
    4. Although corrupt in the film, Jack Rollins is the actual name of a heroic SHIELD agent from the "Nick Fury vs. SHIELD" comics who alerts Fury to the enemy infiltration.
    CAMEOS:
    1. Co-director Joe Russo plays the underground doctor tending to Nick Fury during the scene where he reveals he's alive.
    2. Captain America scribe Ed Brubaker plays the bearded Hydra scientist tending to the Winter Soldier during the scene where Pierce orders his mind wiped.
    3. Stan Lee plays the Smithsonian security guard who discovers that Cap's World War II uniform has been stolen.
    END-CREDIT SCENES:
    1. Hydra leader Baron Wolfgang von Strucker plots to sacrifice minor Hydra cells to the ensuing manhunt while consolidating remaining resources to advance their research on the Chitauri Scepter and the two surviving guinea pigs of their human experimentation, the Maximoff twins, who are seen exploring their nascent abilities to move faster than the eye can see and to manipulate objects probabilistically.
    2. Bucky visits the Captain America exhibit at the Smithsonian to learn about his and Steve's past.
    The next chronological stop in the MCU are Episodes 17 - 22 of Season 1 of "Agents of SHIELD" which complete the first season of the show.

    Cheers, from the other side of the pond! Great movie, easily one of my favorites and one of the best comic based films, bar none.
    Regardless, of whether or not you do reactions, or just watch on your own and before you get any farther, just wanted to recommend Agents of Shield, a roller coaster of a series, with a great cast, that's a lot of fun. The series picks up, shortly after Iron Man 3 and plays into and off of the movies, most notably Winter Soldier and continues to do so through the first 4 seasons, before it goes off and does its own thing. The 1st season covers the time between Iron Man 3 and shortly after Winter Soldier, I also have to suggest watching Agent Carter, it's an absolute blast, with both Haley Atwell as Peggy and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, returning to their roles, while also introducing us to the real life Jarvis, played perfectly by James D'Arcy. It's a short but sweet and action packed series.
    As for Sam, he was Air Force Pararescue, probably the least talked about of the special forces, their essentially, a navy seal, the best navy corpsman and an air traffic controller rolled into one! Their training school is commonly and affectionately referred to as "Superman School", these are the guys sent into to rescue, navy seals, delta's, green beret, marine recon and downed pilots.
    Oh, and their abbreviated motto is, "So Others May Live", the longer version is, "We Die, So Others May Live"!

    I feel like this is the last time The MCU took itself seriously. I miss these kind of movies. They don't make superhero movies like this anymore, both marvel and dc today are a joke compared to the quality of this one.       @@SofaandChill I can't agree that this movie is the pinnacle of Marvel. It is very excellent and reminiscent of Three Days of the Condor, in the tradition of old style spy/intrigue movies and done very well, but so many of the movies after this are also excellent in their own way. You'll see what I mean 😁I hope there isn't so much time between the next ones! Your reactions remind me so much of when me and my youngest son were going through these as they were released. He's MUCH older now!

    I enjoyed the reaction. The next Cap movie plot was modified in order to compete with Batman vs Superman movie and instead of being just about Cap and Bucky, like initially intended, they added some more characters.
    Btw, Bucky was injected by Zola with super serum so he's a supersoldier just like Steve. That's why he looks young after so many years, the aging process was slowed down, and also cause he was kept frozen by Hydra in between missions.

    I supremely love this movie . . . . but I have such a hard time ranking them! Everytime I try another movie and things I loveabout it pops up and I second-guess! I just stopped trying. Every film in the MCU has it's own unique flavor and you certainly can't compare them to movies outside the MCU. Definitely not the DCU. There is nothing like the MCU in cinema ever.
