    I am working on the Health & Social care course Level 5 and i have been struggling and have felt like jacking it in. This has helped me with with a piece I need being able to improve performance through reflective practice. This has really helped me, thanks so much,

    When you mentioned peer group learning, I reflected on the amount of time teachers can spend in corridors of their institutions talking about their practice on the way from one class to another. We often jump at these opportunities I wonder if it makes a broader comment about some teachers and their preference for learning and reflecting through discussion with peers, as opposed to other methods of reflection. I guess it’s more likely to keep teachers current and relevant, and more grounded we can tend to get lost in self reflection, as it’s often preceded by negative feelings and perceptions of poor teaching, anyway I should be finishing an essay not starting another....

    Great video!! Thank you for clarifying everything! Although...there is evidence that animals do reflect and perform accordingly. The 'mechanical behaviouristic thing' is being slowly debunked by researchers while we understand more about how they learn and respond to the world. So I would sugget that reflecting practice is not something that we do because we are human being, is something we do because we are 'thinking beings', including every complex or simple thinking beings. We all reflect in a way. ;)

    Hello Philip, thank you for the clip, I really enjoyed watching it. You mentioned two particular anxieties I was thinking about myself, about the echo-chamber and finding flaws/rationalising them. I am wondering if this just comes down to how meaningful one would aim for the reflection to be or is this as deep as one can attain from self-evaluation (vs peer-)? Rather than rationalising, a deeper reflection may be to think about how I felt if I was moving my arms, was I comfortable, did I think this would convey a stronger message considering the method of teaching -online-, etc.? Thank you for your time.

      Dexter C great comment. I agree that your orientation to reflective practice is going to influence how meaningful it is. Sincerity is going to get you further than a tokenistic reflection.
      If you like this video, you might find this reflection I did on it a few years later interesting: philldawson.com/reflective-practice-on-reflective-practice/

    What is the difference between reflective practice and acton research? I am confused a bit

    • @PhillipDawson
      @PhillipDawson  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      joker88bad They are overlapping concepts, so your confusion is understandable. I think of action research as an extension of reflective practice involving a more systematic, formal and cyclical approach that ultimately aims to build new knowledge, while sharing reflective practice's aim to improve practice.

    • @uzmadawood
      @uzmadawood 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +joker88bad there is a difference between reflective practice and action research.. action research is a method of research but using this may lead to reflective practitioner so using action research can lead to reflective practice or a way to reflective practice

    Ha! He physically assaulted me... we have a house rule that "It's wrong to bite another person" but neither he nor my 1yo son seem to like that rule very much. Stompy is a large Maine Coon cat, so his bites can hurt!

    Your cat got put in the bathroom because he beat you?? Do you mean physically assaulted you or do you mean you lost at chess? I have enjoyed this video, but that image is stuck with me now, LOL
