    I think ESEE hit a homerun introducing the S35VN blade steel with the new contoured handles. I have the ESEE 4 in S35VN and contoured scales. Love It!

    S35vn knife for around $77 is a steal! I also added the TKC scales but in solid orange. Great small fixed blade!

    I get so tired of people making moderate to expensive priced knives, for “processing game”, that aren’t stainless steel. I really appreciate this video. I like how you put your own through some real world use. I’m going to get one for myself, to integrate into my survival tool system.

    • @Scablands_Scavenger

      I can appreciate that, I have sold some really nice knives that were horrible rust magnets. Blood is probably right up there with salt water for eating up a blade.

    • @christophersteingart2237
      @christophersteingart2237 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Scablands_Scavenger I’ve actually seen blood leave strange little water marks on some stainless that never went away. The steel wasn’t damaged, but it definitely wasn’t stainless like a Henkel kitchen knife.

    I personally don’t have much experience with the s35, or s30 steel other than in pocket folders. I like 1095 on these little fixed blades for the strength and capability they offer as well as how easy they are to sharpen. Just got the izula2 and I’m going to strip that coating off and just put a patina on it and I’m sure it will be fine for where I’m at.

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1095 is pretty tough to beat. I have become a real fan of the Stainless steels over the last couple years though, mainly for the corrosion resistance and edge retention. I tend to do quite a bit of fishing and small game hunting and not having to worry about the water and blood eating away at the blade and under the handle while out has been really nice. I have had instances of the blade rusting up really bad just hours after using to clean fish on a boat, or cleaning a bird in the winter. The stainless is no worries at all. The edge retention is also fantastic, fat and hide really wear down an edge quick, being able to process game without multiple sharpening breaks is great. I still prefer a 1095 blade for certain things, like you said it is easy to sharpen and ESEE has them treated to be really tough blades.

    • @John5.56
      @John5.56 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Scablands_Scavenger Absolutely, it all depends on where you’re at and the task at hand. I’m not in a salty super humid environment. I mean I definitely see the appeal in the stainless blades and I’ll be adding some more soon I’m sure, but for what I do mostly I can get away with just about any steel.

    I love the Esse CR2.5. I was hoping for the release in S35VN.. But according to Esse they are not going to release the CR2.5 but an updated longer version the CR30 in S35VN at 3 inches. I considered purchasing the Izula with the TKC scales. But in fairness I need the extra 1/2 inch that the Izula2 has. Neither knife do I see as a full on beater for buttoning. & the stainless & edge retention on the S35VN is worth it. G-d forbid it breaks, there is nothing like Esse’s warranty. Now if money is no object White River M1 Back Packer Caper in S35VN . If you figure approximately $90 for the S35VN Izula plus $40 & shipping for the TKC scales the $170 on the Caper isn’t an overwhelming jump in price. 😀 Where did you get the matching kydex sheath for the TKC scales?

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Late to reply, system is kind of broke here ha ha. I was hoping for the CR3 to actually come to life, the 2.5 is great but for cleaning and dressing fish It was too short to cut through the body... just needed the extra length. I ended up buying the LT Wright bandit form SMKW. It is not S30 but AEBL I think. It is a great knife, small and light, nimble to work with and decent price. No issues with rust or corrosion when fishing or dressing small game. Oh the sheath was one I made myself.

      @@mmcconnell434 The method I use is a bit complex to write here, but If you are looking to just make a few sheaths there are quite a few "diy kydex press" videos that would get you started. This style of sheath is generally called a "pancake" or "flat" sheath, there are also "taco" or "fold over" style sheaths. You can get started with a minimal investment, but you will need a few specialty tools (heat gun, eyelet setter) depending on how you want to make it.

    Great look at the Izula.
    I’ve had an Izula II for years but so was one of those guys clamoring for ESEE to make knives in a less corrosive steel. I was thinking AEB-L or 3V and was a bit surprised with the S35VN choice but it is an American produced steel. After Patrick broke one I held off on buying a knife thinking they might revisit another steel. It doesn’t appear like they will, in fact they are pretty adamant that they aren’t going to do any of the larger knives than the 4 in a “super steel.”
    So Ibought an Izula in S35VN. I love the lil guy and I’m leaving it naked to wear as a neck knife. In fact so prefer it over my old Izula II with the slab scales.
    I shouldn’t have waited so long to add the S35VN to my Izula II and ESEE 6.

      Thanks for the feedback. If you have such strong opinions on how people do reviews put your money where your mouth is and make your own video. I always see the biggest criticism from people with zero content, I wonder why? Yes this video is all...... for a youtube video, thought it was kind of self evident. People want to see it being used rather than just some random table top talk. Its great that you take care of your gear, you should. I have carbon steel, tool steal and stainless. They all work to their strengths, but carbon will lose its edge faster because it corrodes faster, within hours, its been established for decades now. I like to get my wet work done without having to sharpen the blade 5 times, and if I am too busy or not going home after being in or near the water or bloodwork I don't want my blade to dull or rust from corrosion. You do You, better yet make your own videos showing off your skill and prowess in the outdoors so we can all learn from it, Post your link here and I will pin it up top for all to see. Thanks.
