      The IZULA 1 is definitely a solid choice! Having both 1095 and S35VN gives you the best of both worlds for your EDC needs.

    I've watched countless videos on fixed blade edc lately n the izula 2 crept to the top. The giant mouse gmf1-f looked cool but was 33mm shorter.. I can't wait to get an izula 2. After looking into fixed blades, you don't look at folding knives the same ever again. Great channel, btw, the humour and the laissez-faire attitude towards it all is great.

    Hi Tom. I’m glad you like the knife and extended TKC scales. You’re probably well aware that you can’t use the factory sheath with the extended scales. (Unless perhaps if you modify the factory sheath the way that you do.) The Armatus sheath was made to fit it perfectly with TKC scales.
    Thanks again! I hope you get much use and enjoyment from this ESEE.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting.
      You are mistaken about the scales making the knife not fit the stock sheath. The TCK scales were designed to extend the butt, yet still make it fit the sheath. If you watched the video...the entire video...😁 you would have seen the TCK scales in the stock sheath, with only the bottom of the sheath removed to make it a shorter, more comfortable, and serviceable belt sheath.

    • @Oudtrsmn
      @Oudtrsmn 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@knifetimestory my mistake then! I thought for sure that the unmodified factory sheath was meant to fit the skeletonized version of the knife without any scales on it. -I’ll just go back to drinking now.

    So far I have two Esee 3’s and two Esee 6’s . I’ll eventually have doubles of every model I have . I had the Izula in 440c until it was stolen . I’ll eventually get the S35vn version as Esee does an excellent heat treat on it .

    Again. Thank you for swaying my decision towards the s35vn. I’m a 1095 fan, so it was a difficult choice for me. I will in fact though use the g10 esee scales. I like the smaller size of the izula.

    Speaking of modding ESEE sheaths. I bought a leather loop for a Casstrom, taco-style Kydex sheath. My ESEE-3 came with a redundant tan colored sheath. I didn't like the tan sheath with my gray scales. I figured I could cut some of the extra plastic (Kydex at home) and make the pancake-style sheath more thinnerer. This would allow my belt to thread through the strap.

    What an information video and being new to Izula confusing in a good way. So i bought the S35VN which if im correct would be Izula 1. Correct? Lol also when buying replacement handles and trying to cover the finger hole on the end of the handle i want a Izula 2 handle? Lol. I subbed to you channel for future confusing questions lol Thanks for the video. I really appreciate your approach.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, Izula is the Izula 1. Only the Izula II has any additional stuff after the name. The extended handles will make your knife the exact same size as the Izula II, but because you have S35VN, you will have the best possible variation out there. There is only one knife seller out there that I know of who has the handle I show in the video. Begins with the letter "T" I believe. Kinda pricey, but very much worth it, and comes with all the hardware so you will be able to put them on moments after you receive that.
      Thanks for subscribing. Never hesitate to ask questions and let me know how it goes.

  • @gingebrien2408

    To be fair the Izula is not the Izula2. That 1/2 inch in the handle really makes a huge difference. And S35VN is such an awesome stainless steel that is pretty dam tough & easy to sharpen. As ESSE has ignored its fan base, it forced me to try other brands. My recommendation would be one of the following: White River’s M1 Caper in S35VN & now offering Magnacut. Bradford Guardian 3.2 in Magnacut is awesome. Or Bark River’s Iron River also in Magnacut. The best knife ergoes go to White River M1 Caper vs the Izula2. And since ESSE insist on ignoring us White River M1 Caper is the winner. Esse needs to step it up.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally get what you mean! The Izula2 is nice, but that extra half-inch really changes the game. I’ll have to check out those other brands you mentioned!

  • @ROE1300
    @ROE1300 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    👍 The Izula2 is the best knife Esee makes, maybe the only good knife Esee makes. Of course, the difference in the Izula and the Izula2 is the more realistic adult sized handle. If you found aftermarket handle scales that will allow an Izula in S35vn to imitate an Izula2 I am delirious with interest. Where can I buy those scales? Who makes those scales? Please help me!

      @knifetimestory  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed my videos. It’s nice of you to say.
      Hopefully, you understood from my video that there is no such thing as an IZULA II in S35VN. The only way to accomplish that size is by buying the aftermarket extended handle. Which… If you have decent sized hands is not a bad way to go.
      If you are not a big fan of having black blade coating rub up against your food, or like to sharpen a knife all the time, then I would strongly recommend getting the S35VN version. It will take a great edge, and keep it. And the lack of coating means it slices through things much nicer and is food safe.
      I hope that helps. If you have any additional questions do not hesitate to ask.

      @@knifetimestory I thought you had mentioned that the esee 1095 blade rowen was good for things such as food prep. I’m not a hunter it would be my edc carry and used sometimes for food. Thank you for response.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1095 is good for food prep. All of Grandma's knives are made from it. It's the black coating that can be an issue. It is not food safe. In a pinch, sure it would be fine. But for constant use, I'd avoid it. I talk about just that subject in this video:
      th-cam.com/video/qB1cBUo7fDg/w-d-xo.html
      The softness of the Rowen 1095 is another issue. If you like to spend a lot of time sharpening and re-sharpening, then go for it. Otherwise, spend the $ and get the S35VN

    I’m with you on owning more than one knife that you reallly reallly like .
    I like having extras to give as gifts . ( my kids , grandkids other family n friends) .
    Mostly SAK and the beckers 14 ( I know how you feel bout it … maybe I’m just too much of a becker head) and the bk2 …
    There are others , came across a honey of a deal on a bunch of MOD NIGHTWINGS ( for bedside table n around the house )( my daughters n a niece) .
    I’m always looking for a good deal . Recently I bought a Moore maker sheath on eBay ( for a more maker trapper ) . Heck my sak fit perfect in it too so I bought ten for family that carried the SAK that I gave em.. got down to two sheaths left … yep ordered 10 more lol lol). They were bout 10 bucks apiece when ordered in bulk . ( sucker for a good deal) ( maybe they might put that on my tombstone🤔ha ha).

    Tom, what does the introduction of the Pacaya, in 3V no less, do for your long standing commitment to the Izula? You know when you've been going out for soft serve ice cream and long walks with a girl and then a short time later you meet her much prettier, more interesting younger sister? 1 Corinthians doesn't talk specifically about this but I suspect a knife apostle like yourself will work out the delicate moral conundrum in good time. Hopefully in all its messy "Real Housewives of OC" glory via TH-cam....the algorithm loves a spectacle. ;)
