The bbs02 series has a right-hand crank axle, making rain somewhat easier. It's not a big problem when driving, but it would be good to be careful when parking.
Super !! Finally found somebody who removed the 2 needle bearings .... Thanks folks. I live in the Netherland and cycle in the rain too. One of the bearings was rusty and dirty, the axle had trouble going round. What is the size of those bearings in progessional language ??
Great video, but I must say my axle locking looks nothing like the one in the video. I simply cannot find a video anywhere on TH-cam, that would show the type of locking nut I have on my BBS02 (it's on the left side/ non-drive side). Also I had some sort of permanent rubber coat or seal there, that I completely destroyed/ hacked into a thousand pieces, as there was no way to remove it. I don't know if my unit is a revised kit (I bought it about 3 years ago), what I know, it's way less repairable thanks to this change, extremely frustrating. I actually ended up using some IB weld epoxy (only a tiny amount) and glued a socket head to that washer on the axle. There is simply no other way I could see to try to turn it, or pull it out. I am still waiting for the JB weld to cure, then I will try to twist it or pull it out. I have no idea whether I will succeed or not. But I really hope I don't have to bin the whole unit because of this design flaw. I have a broken clutch inside, and unlike on the BBSHD where t's easy to access it, here on the BBS02 it's buried under everything else. I miss my BBSHD more and more.
Thank you. After researching. Perhaps the latest version has a gasket that appears to be plastic. If you look at the seller's product here, you can see three rings. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Dmc8BpH
My guess is that the BBS02 is very prone to water seeping into the axle. It appears to be used for waterproofing purposes before installing the two locknuts to prevent moisture inflow.
Wow this is a great video. Thanks for sharing. I have a question, I have a BBS02 - when pedaling under pressure there is a clicking noise on the right side of the pedal arm. When throttle under pressure no problem. Changed pedal to - still the same. Will try and figure out today. Any ideas? Thanks again
My bbs01 vibrates through the pedals when it scales up and down the power when reaching the speed limit. I’m sure it wasn’t doing it when I built it last summer. I have placed tape around the gaskets all around the motor which should prohibit water ingress. I’ve also applied more grease multiple times, do you think the grease would cause this vibration? Or do you know any other causes? Thanks!
The plastic nylon gear acts as a clutch, and when it wears out, it can no longer transmit all the power. If the failure becomes more severe, then it is recommended to open the motor. If you often ride on rainy days, the needle bearing may have rusted.
Mine crapped out after 31km, two rides. 😢 From what i gathered online, possibly,, the magnet for the PAS sensor behind the big cog got loose, so now PAS magnet gets dragged, so the motor keeps assisting even if you dont pedal, or even when using the throttle. Brake sensor has to kick in, or PAS set to 0 for it to stop. Now i have trouble with the new design rubber seal on the other side, and cant get inside. Dunno if I even will get a warranty repair... Apparently, putting the bike upside down to adjust the rear derail, at my apartment, was the last straw to get something loose. Strange. No strangee noises, only after 31km...
th-cam.com/video/aOgo0OkjcyI/w-d-xo.html Here's a video of inserting a small screwdriver into the axle gap and removing the rubber seal. The method is the same. We recommend replacing the pas sensor and magnet disc. Once you take it apart, you will see that repair is not difficult.
@@Mobilant_US I will be sending it for warranty repair. Warranty contractor for bafang is very close by. I don't think it would be possible for BBS02 seal ( new revision ). The seal is very tough rubber, pressed in very tight, and doesn't have any ridges that can have a lever inserted. Screwdriver wouldn't even go in on the sides, because it's such dense rubber. I've seen someone pull it out with skinny pliers, but I don't have ones that would fit. I'd rather just send it for repairs. No to mention parts cost. I've now noticed that there is an audiable "dragging" shhhh sandy sound when the motor operates ( I use walking support by holding minus, it doesn't trigger PAS ). Almost certainly, for some reason, PAS magnet got loose. Dunno how that happened, when on newest BBS02 revision there are no screws holding it ( which get loose after some use, and were a problem ), but a metal(?) tab. Maybe it's a manufacturing defect. Thanks for the advice anyways.

@@Mobilant_US Nah. Europe. From what I understand, it goes to an ebike/parts shop / repair shop company ( 50km away from me in Wroclaw city, Poland ) for repairs, and then, they will bill bafang/the seller for warranty repairs. The ebike company is listed as certified Polish warranty repair contractor, in the warranty card included with the motor. I called them, and they said they will repair it there. There is also a bafang factory in Wroclaw city ( dunno if they make BBS motors, I know they make bafang ones with shrouds for store made ebikes ), and a bafang warehouse ( my motor was sent from there, arrived in 1.5 days ). So, at least I have that. Hopefully I will get it back soonish. And working for more than 31km.
at first the motor was very stiff on pedal assist and stop frequently so i decided to clean and grease it but no effect. also, when i thottle and release it the speed continue until i press break and currently it's showing error 30.
Error code 30 indicates a damaged controller if the connector is not connected properly. If there is no physical noise, it is recommended to detach and replace the controller.
If you smell something burning when you open the controller cover, it is very likely that the motor coils have turned black due to water or overload. Parts can be easily purchased from AliExpress.

This is a great instructional video to show the complexity of the motor. Definitively not a project for a regular owner.
The first time is hard. The second time is too easy.
I ride mine in the rain...no issues so far.
I also have a hammer and a table to work on.

I ride mine in the rain. Had it up to 48.6 mph as well.
48mph BBS02 motor? That's very unique trick you'll need to show me how to do that some day...

It could be a needle bearing problem. Or, you can remove the motor bottom bracket axle rubber cover and tighten the lock ring nut a little.
