Great Video! I learned a lot at the Fold Fest Event. I have been wet folding card stock paper for years and have always had problems. Either the paper disintegrates or becomes too fragile when you wet it. Also, in many brands, the color runs if you are not careful. Since the event, I have been using 180 weight watercolor paper and have had the best success using just water. ( I usually I have to use water mixed with methyl-cellulose. ) I was able to make Tien Quyet's cat finally look the model in all the pictures. Also, Paint one side with acrylic paint has worked pretty good so far. It is like exploring an entire new line of origami!
Thank you and it sure is!!, using water and mc isn’t something id think of doing for wet folding and going to have to try that now haha. I have a sheet painted with acrylic and drying now so will do some tests with that, all this is so exciting as I’ve never done it before :D
Watercolour paper is, as you rightly suspect, made to be used for watercolour paintings. It’s good for gouache as well, which is technically just a different flavour of watercolour, but painting with them is as different as day and night. As for hot or cold pressed: it’s literally what the name suggests. The outcome of the methods is slightly different though, as hot pressed is a lot smoother than cold pressed; the smooth grain you talk about is the same as the hot pressed variety. In case you’re interested, here’s some more info: when painting in watercolour, you tape the paper down so it dries up flat instead of going wavy. You can also instead stretch the fibres beforehand by bathing it in water and drying it or flat quickly, e.g., with a blow dryer. When painting with watercolour, the art is to use the right amount of water for what you want to achieve. If you wet the paper fully beforehand, all colours you apply will flow and ‘bleed’ together where the paper is wet; this is used to make smoothly coloured areas, since watercolour is usually translucent and will look blotchy if you botch this process. But sometimes that’s also just what you’re going for… Anyways: thanks for this video and I show your accent!
Im a watercolor artist as well. This paper can be wet more than you think. My suggestion would be wet down both sides of paper with 1" brush and use warm water. Hotter the water more supple the paper becomes.
Thanks for the tip!, going to assume that water colour paints if applied to arches paper will run when wet after it dries? Or does the paper absorb the colour so it doesn’t If you have ever done that before? Going to test that out when i get some aswell
@@knut3357 no, in terms of what type of colourings to use, also a sponge may be better to apply the water haha, never thought of that aswell as it should be cleaner than a cloth or rag
I made a crane for a friend using a cardboard from origami sheet of paper that it came in by putting the cardboard in the freezer for about 10 minutes and started to fold and then put it back in the freezer and continue to fold then once again fold again it worked well now the crane cannot be unfolded unless you put it back in the freezer or wet fold I think the freezer works best the moisture delivers it evenly on paper

@@FearlessFlourish yes if enough water is re-applied it will activate pigment enough to run or bleed. You have to add alot though.

Welcome!!!, wet folding is so much fun to do now i need to figure out what to use to colour it

@@FearlessFlourish oh that depends on the model I think haha
This is how to wetfold:1.tie the model with rubber band
2:dump it in water
3:set it out to dry
Can you teach how to make your PERFECT paper. Thanks in advance
Bro tip:use a thick Paper :D
This is 300gsm!?!!! Hehe
