    just subscribed, watched a few videos during a fit of insomnia. Im trying to purchase an existing post and beam 40'X60" barn. I planned om finishing half of it and having 30X40 barn/garage under existing roof. I had my doubts......like you I have electrical and HVAC experience. Also carpentry kmowledge.....brothers in the trade. I can do this! I swear god made me find this video. thanks for the inspiration. You are the man. incredible design and skills. favorite part was your daughters helping daddy raise the wall. god bless you man.

    My wife and I have always wanted to do this. We sold our home and our three kids have been living in a camper for the last 6 months. Frankly, it scares the hell out of me to try this. I have no where near your skill level but I can hold my own. I guess it’s just taking the plunge into a project of this scale. Watching you do this is helping me wrap my mind around the possibilities. Thanks for posting.

    Truly amazing job Paul !!! The fact that you basically built such a large house by yourself is mind-boggling !!! I can't wait for that moment. The moment when all is said and done and you get to sit back/relax with a cup of coffee or beer and admire all that you have built while watching your children play. Recording and especially editing all these videos must've truly added time to your build. Thank you so so much for taking the time out to record, edit and share this part of your life with us. In the next few decades, don't forget to remind the wife and the kids that you built this damn house, lol! I know I would :) Wish I could have that beer with you! Keep up the great work !!!

    Danm! You really frame the whole house by yourself. A lot of TH-cam’s make a look like they do, but they really don’t. Congrats!!! Are you going to use open cell insulation on ceiling? You might also want to put open cell insulation on the walls so the walls don’t sound empty when you knock on them. DO NOT use batting insulation or blow insulation on the walls or ceiling. I would really hate to see that on the build.

Did you assume the concrete slab was perfectly level or did you use your laser level and I missed that detail.

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You technically don't need plywood on roof/sides with this type of construction. The metal does provide strength, and the spray foam also adds to it. Looking back we would probably do the roof only to make it easier when running pipes through it, etc.

  • @HickoryDickory86
    @HickoryDickory86 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was wondering... have you considered using resilient channels, at least for the ceiling on the first floor? They would help impede the transmission of sound from the top floor by separating the sheetrock from the joists.
    You would screw the channels to the joists, and then screw the sheetrock to the channels only in the spaces between the joists. It is an easy process with good payoffs in dampening sound transmission.

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll have to check it out.

    • @HickoryDickory86
      @HickoryDickory86 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrPostFrame Well, if you decide to use them on the walls too, just remember that the mounting bracket is on the *bottom.* That makes the sheetrock hang off of the studs, as they're designed to do to provide that break. Too many people make the mistake of installing them upside down (entirely short circuiting their purpose and making them useless) because the correct way _seems_ counterintuitive. But it doesn't matter on the ceiling. 👍

    Question, if a post frame home is different from stick frame homes, why did you put headers over your windows? I thought there wouldn't be any load bearing down on the windows.

    what's the budget on this project? what did you save by completing it on your own? How is the durability and will banks finance these with a home mortgage. sorry for all the questions. love the house!

      We are not done yet. There is a cost video on my channel breaking everything down. An updated cost video will be coming out soon. There is also a video about financing a post frame home on our channel too.

    Is it cheaper to build this type of home than a traditional style home? I have been wanting to buy a house but they are all just so expensive.

      It can be more cost effective going this route especially if you’re wanting to do a lot of the work yourself

    The biggest problem with kind of framerate vs. realtime is that we never see you breathe! :-)

      It is a time lapse of the last several. There are a lot of people that enjoy just a time lapse with no talking.

    Is that spray foam on walls i notice you put metal siding roght over your tyvac and on fram with no plywood or chip board?

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes 3" of closed cell spray foam. No OSB on side walls, but we do add OSB to our roof. Metal gives the sidewall it's shear strength which means no need for OSB.

    The little girl copying after seeing dad kick the wall into position is great. NOT one cup of splosh delivered to you whilst grafting..... Have a word. Great video, awesome job, only problem I have is I feel Super lazy now. Who can thumbs this down other than jealous people? I love to see people succeed even if they are doing way better than me, they are setting an example for the likes of me.

    who designed the interior framing? could you do a video telling us how we would go about designing rooms and features with structural information, what nails bolts wood thickness etc to use to get good enough rooms, also sound and heat and all that.
