Craig's theory is absolutely correct. The ultimate proof? Juneau dotes over her necklace, kissing it for good luck. When Sarah wipes the blood off, it reveals the phrase "Love each day," which, in addition to seeming like a sick joke under the circumstances, is a quote from Sarah's husband. He bought her that necklace.
I just watched a 4 hour documentary about Nightmare on Elm St. called "Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy" and I don't remember you ever mention Elm Street, but I would have a hard time imagining either of you not watching at least the first two, if not 3 - 6.
Have you seen The Diving Bell and The Butterfly directed by Julian Schnabel? A stunningly powerful film about locked-in syndrome, and with some of the most spectacular cinematography in film.
Sarah's baptism in blood reminds me a lot of that beautiful scene in Apocalypse Now when Willard emerged from the river, his face coated in war paint, his hair slick with water and mud. I think they share the same meaning.
I'm a huge horror fan, but very few horror movies have actually scared me. This movie was terrifying. But what got me wasn't the crawlers, it was all the parts before they show up when the girls are crawling through 1 foot wide tunnels that freaked me out. There were parts I actually had to look away. Of course, the idea of a race of blind, cannibalistic sub-terranean humanoids also freaks me out too.
I agree about the fear involving the tight caverns. My biggest fear has always been getting stuck in a tight space. That inability to move freaks me out, far more than any monster or maniac could ever do.
I don't watch horror movies so I don't have any previous experience with them, but the way you both analyzed and described this film as having a solid plot and unique story direction, will make me look on them differently now. Thank you for your thought provoking views on this movie, and keep up the great work.
Actually that Lovecraft story was not his first one and it was about five pages long lol. Was so stoked to see that you guys mentioned him though that was very cool. You guys are awesome!
Matt and Craig, Have you guys seen "Under the Skin"? That movie blew mind for days, it is the best horror/sci-fi movie I've seen in years and is so incredibly original and beautifully strange!
My house had a minor flood and I discovered a month later it soaked through a wall and into my dvd collection filling it a chunk of it with damp & black mold, you guys & viewers are the only people that might sympathise haha. But if not at least this new episode of the best internet show will cheer me up. Love you guys.
For Seen it: Rockey Horror Picture Show, only thing I've ever seen that I couldn't follow. The ending to Bioshock infinite was easier to understand than that movie, which is why I love it!
Correction: great music, sex, alien transvestites (and a gay alien clone I think), credits. It jumps around a lot between those first three, thats what makes it confusing and also amazing.
I really liked The Decent; I watched it on Film4 (in the UK). I loved the dark and the whole claustrophobia feel to it. Oh and the directors other film (as you mentioned) Dog Solders ain't too shabby ether, not great but worth a watch. Kill List….Have you seen it?
My Mom recently told me that when I was 4 years old, I watch the Little Mermaid every day for a year, sometimes several times a day. Sooo... basically, toddler me beat you in the 5-day movie challenge XD
omg, I had the same 13:21 reaction, my friend recommended this movie and she told me the same thing when I talked to her about it the next day. I had to get it explained to me as well.
Hey Matt and Craig! Darn cool show! Long time viewer, first time commenter. Have you guys seen Horror Express with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing? It's one of the first movies I remember staying up late to with some friends that absolutely freaked me out!
Good movie...I liked it. I went into a cave in Colorado where there were a few places you had to turn sideways to squeeze through. It was a great place to discover I had claustrophobic tendencies.
Craig did you get a hair cut? its looking great! also this video is going to be treasured by me and my husband as this is our 'anniversary' movie as weird as that is! thanks for choosing it!
Bad ass!! This movie is awesome!! I was pleasantly surprised to see this on the bill. And furthermore, the show just gets better and better. Great work!!!!
Speaking of scary movies, have you seen The Babadook? A new Australian horror film. First movie in a while to give me the creeps, and quite a sinister meaning behind the whole thing too.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, nuff said. Loved the movie and the soundtrack. Please consider watching it if you haven't already seen it.
I don't know if either of you have seen it but you should totally watch A Boy and His Dog. One of my favorite sci-fi films ever. It has one of my favorite endings of all time.
Have you two seen They Shoot Horses, Don't They? I don't remember how I found out about it, but I had only read a small blurb about it before purchasing it on Amazon. I was actually pleasantly surprised. It was heartbreaking, unique but also just a tad confusing. If you haven't seen it, I'd love to see you two watch it together to see what you think about it!
This one of my favorite horror films ever. It is so rare for me to find a movie that is actually scary. The fact that I am claustrophobic makes it even worse. Just a regular caving movie without the horror scares me enough.
Excellent choice, probably one of my favourite horror movies that really feels claustrophobic that hasn't really been met every since (except maybe the sequel and that one movie by the Ryan Reynolds in Buried).
Hey guys, I'm a big fan of the show and of your channel since chad vader. keep up the good work ! oh, and I was wandering... "big trouble in little china", seen it ?
Your review of The Wolfman was funnier, but that being said....I still enjoyed this episode. How can I not when the people running it are so brilliant?
+Matthew Fryer It was okay for an 80's horror/slasher based around a holiday movie. The twist at the end was kind of dumb though. If you really think about it there's no way it would really work like that at all. Of course the remake is way, way worse.
Hey Matt! For what it's worth, there are already two horror movies called "April Fool's Day", one from 1986 and the other from 2008. (On IMDB, the '86 has a rating almost twice the '08 one.) Just throwing that out there.
Have you guys seen the 1980 historical drama Breaker Morant? It's got Edward Woodward (Sergeant Howie from The Wicker Man) and was a surprisingly good war film despite mostly taking place inside a courtroom.
I had never heard of that HP Lovecraft story, it's particularly scary for me because I went into the mammoth caves as a child and we had to stay in there for an extra two hours because of a tornado...
I just watched this film tonight. That "BAD KITTY!" line cracked me up. The movie overall was quite good, but it was a big annoyance how they just used animal noises for the crawlers. Otherwise, it's a really solid film! Lots of female power.
Well, I've seen as much of The Descent as I am ever going to see. I am fairly sure the part where they crawl through a shoulder-width tunnel would wig me out pretty severely. Matt and Craig, watching movies so you don't have to, since 2012. :)
This is a fun movie. I normally think jump scares are cheap but this one has pretty good ones. I don't scare easy, but they actually got me several times. Like the window spike. That one was awesome. The monsters were more creepy when I couldn't see them but after I saw what they looked like I couldn't stop repeating ''My Precious'' while laughing my ass off. And the story was very good for a horror movie. So many horror movies have shit stories. Real shame.
April Fools Day is the title of a great 80s slasher movie. If you guys haven't already seen it I recommend checking it out. It's not your standard Slasher film but it works in it's own unique way.
I know it’s not my place to tell you what to watch, but I highly recommend Bone Tomahawk. Only the original Martyrs can compete with this brilliant gem. I recommend not watching any trailers and going in blind if possible. If you have no idea where the film is going you’ll be pleasantly surprised, I promise.
Hey guys Big fan of your show keep it up I watched blue velvet and it was really a good movie thanks Craig ! I just wanna know if you have seen "Showgirls" and do you consider it a crappy movie or it is so big now that it is a cult movie ! Love and regards from Toronto
Don't know if you guys know this yet. But they made a Sequel to this movie. In it Sarah actually got out. It's been awhile but I recall it not being so good.
If you guys have seen all the Kubrick films, then you need to talk about them. My favorite of his is "a clockwork orange", but "full metal jacket" and "eyes wide shut" come close.
Oh, wow. I didn't pick up on the affair the first time I saw this movie. But, looking at the wikipedia page, there was a big clue: Juno's lucky pendant said "Love Each Day", which was a saying of the husband.
Something I wonder watching this review now (I saw the film a long time ago and loved it)... how do the creatures live for so long? What do they feed on when they don't get their claws on humans - and I mean aside from the other spelunkers (and yeah, there were some... but not enough for ALL those creatures)? Other animals? Who else would go that far down? Maybe they had a hint of an explanation but I missed. I know I might be over-thinking it, but still...
Early on in the movie they find that carcass near the outside of the hole, so they do hunt outside, in the sequel this is expanded on with someone who actually feeds them.
That's where the mythological, supernatural excuses come in, since obviously scientifically, these creatures would have to be more than carnivores. BUT one could make an assumption that the creatures hunt from time to time on the surface, which would explain all the bones picked clean. It is perhaps likely they do not need to eat much to survive, but who can resist a group of blood-filled prey frantically trying to escape? XD
This is really the best BlameSociety show and by far the best movie review show on TH-cam.
Very good film, saw it in the cinema. Didn't grab me at first, but later that I night I realized it was a classic.
This review is worth it for the Herzog imitation alone. Great job as always.
I agree about the fear involving the tight caverns. My biggest fear has always been getting stuck in a tight space. That inability to move freaks me out, far more than any monster or maniac could ever do.
Finally! A C.H.U.D. reference !! (In case you don't know, that stands for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller)
Come on. We all know that.
Justin Coleman I didn’t know that! Vinny actually helped me out there. We all have different experiences :)
This is the uncut version. The American release, Sarah made out from what I remember. Juno is also still alive in the sequel.
I love this movie for all the reasons you named. I'm glad you did this one.
You guys are looking sharp! Lost weight, lost hair. Good look all around! Thank you for the great work!
April fool's day was actually a great movie. Cheesy 80's horror! You guys should watch it for the show.
Definitely! 'April Fool's Day'- Paramount pictures 1986. I would love to see it done on this show!
I thought I have heard of a horror movie called April Fool's day.
Yeah. Been a long time, but I do remember liking April Fool's Day.
I don't watch horror movies so I don't have any previous experience with them, but the way you both analyzed and described this film as having a solid plot and unique story direction, will make me look on them differently now. Thank you for your thought provoking views on this movie, and keep up the great work.
This was excellent guys! Just found you and had to join you :)
cool, Falmer
ask Aaron
Holy shit, they are totally falmer. Now they just need to spam destruction spells in the faces of the characters.
SoaringDoves And be entirely over powered for no reason.
GrimZombiex and somehow make it possible for me to hate dwemer ruins MORE.
how can you hate Dwemer ruins? Have you done the Aetherium forge or Kagrumez questlines?!
They Rock!
Plus.. BLACKREACH
you should try Dark Souls. Dwemer ruins are like Disneyland
Is there ever a square cake in a movie? seems like they're ALWAYS circle.
True.
Another great episode guys! Really loved all the reviews and the experience of seeing you watch The Descent! Can't wait for the next one!
You guys are great. I need so much more of this show!
This is my favorite CHUD movie.
Actually that Lovecraft story was not his first one and it was about five pages long lol. Was so stoked to see that you guys mentioned him though that was very cool. You guys are awesome!
+Bailey Deverell The Beast in the Cave was indeed his first written one. However, The Alchemist was his first published one.
Matt and Craig,
Have you guys seen "Under the Skin"? That movie blew mind for days, it is the best horror/sci-fi movie I've seen in years and is so incredibly original and beautifully strange!
Vereis also it has something everyone can enjoy...
passed this one up years ago, now your telling me it's from the guy who did dog solders? SOLD!
What's not to understand? Music. Sex. Aliens. Credits.
It was decent. Not great. Just decent.
Keep up the good work guys, as usual loved the show.
My Mom recently told me that when I was 4 years old, I watch the Little Mermaid every day for a year, sometimes several times a day. Sooo... basically, toddler me beat you in the 5-day movie challenge XD
Did four year old you have any deep insights about The Little Mermaid's deep inner meaning?
Holy crap. A C.H.U.D. reference. I tip my hat to you, Craig.
Baptism in Violence. That's my new metal band name.
omg, I had the same 13:21 reaction, my friend recommended this movie and she told me the same thing when I talked to her about it the next day. I had to get it explained to me as well.
Glad to see you're watching a film a newer film especially a great horror film like The Decent.
Awesome episode as always, boys! Have you ever seen the fantasy movie Krull?
Hey Matt and Craig! Darn cool show! Long time viewer, first time commenter. Have you guys seen Horror Express with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing? It's one of the first movies I remember staying up late to with some friends that absolutely freaked me out!
"There, your Trotsky Impersonation" LMAO well done Craig
Good movie...I liked it. I went into a cave in Colorado where there were a few places you had to turn sideways to squeeze through. It was a great place to discover I had claustrophobic tendencies.
Still one of my faves I would never watch this movie by myself but you guys summarize it so it is fun to watch rather then terrifying
i am in love with this channel.
Great episode.
This one was great. It was fun to see them actually get spooked by a jump scare
Craig, would you consider a villa that's mainly in the plain?
Wait, that wasn't Ernesto. Who was that? Does Ernesto know that another cat is moving in on his territory?
I Play With Myself He moved in on her territory. She was around long before him.
Speaking of scary movies, have you seen The Babadook? A new Australian horror film. First movie in a while to give me the creeps, and quite a sinister meaning behind the whole thing too.
Crampons!?
..........Probably crampons.
+Kevin Lieber Every time I hear the word crapon all I can think of is that episode of "Venture Brothers". :)
For the record, Dog Soldiers is awesome.
Very true.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, nuff said. Loved the movie and the soundtrack. Please consider watching it if you haven't already seen it.
Great Episode!
YES! I love this movie!
Matt looks so much skinnier, than in the old videos. Well done mate, well done
That movie was so fun to watch. I saw it last year sometime, and it actually made me never want to visit a cave.
Caves are already scary enough with the tight tunnels and cave in factor.
Ugh seriously. I would not be able to crawl through those tight spaces. It freaks me out and I'm not even claustrophobic.
Excellent choice, probably one of my favourite horror movies that really feels claustrophobic that hasn't really been met every since (except maybe the sequel and that one movie by the Ryan Reynolds in Buried).
WOAH WOAH WOAH! DID CRAIG JUST SAY OLD LEATHER COUCH INSTEAD OF BIG LEATHER COUCH.
8:00 lol Tona got a fright
Hey guys, I'm a big fan of the show and of your channel since chad vader. keep up the good work !
oh, and I was wandering... "big trouble in little china", seen it ?
One of my favorite films of all time. Carpenter is still a hero of mine.
Well, they‘ve seen it now!
Your review of The Wolfman was funnier, but that being said....I still enjoyed this episode. How can I not when the people running it are so brilliant?
Watch "the thing" old version
April fools day is actually a bad 80s horror movie
+Matthew Fryer orrr amazinggg
+ruealgie ?
+Matthew Fryer It was okay for an 80's horror/slasher based around a holiday movie. The twist at the end was kind of dumb though. If you really think about it there's no way it would really work like that at all. Of course the remake is way, way worse.

I just checked wiki and supposedly their is a Descent 2 that takes place 2 days after the first one if you guys are interested.
Was wondering if you have seen the 1965 classic movie " The Great Race" with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon:)
C.H.U.D. reference. Nice.
Great episode! Matt, you're looking real lean!
Actually, Matt, they did do a horror movie called April Fool's Day. I won't spoil it, but it does play out our idea in a sense.
I had never heard of that HP Lovecraft story, it's particularly scary for me because I went into the mammoth caves as a child and we had to stay in there for an extra two hours because of a tornado...
8:02 What you all came to see.
I sure hope the old leather couch is waterproof.
I just watched this film tonight. That "BAD KITTY!" line cracked me up. The movie overall was quite good, but it was a big annoyance how they just used animal noises for the crawlers. Otherwise, it's a really solid film! Lots of female power.
Sick hairdo Craig
Well, I've seen as much of The Descent as I am ever going to see. I am fairly sure the part where they crawl through a shoulder-width tunnel would wig me out pretty severely.
Matt and Craig, watching movies so you don't have to, since 2012. :)
have you seen coraline? ITs been my go to movie for halloween. yeah! Just the right amount of creepy.
Have you guys seen Donnie Darko, and if so, did you see the director's cut?

Craig and I both got a haircut!
Hey guys
Big fan of your show keep it up
I watched blue velvet and it was really a good movie thanks Craig !
I just wanna know if you have seen "Showgirls" and do you consider it a crappy movie or it is so big now that it is a cult movie !
Love and regards from Toronto
You guys should check out Contracted.
Matt...(Im not gonna say its not Scary) 8:03 😂
nice...hair Craig ;)
I love this film! It got me into watching horror as a teen!
@15:10 pretty sure that's how 1986's _April Fools Days_ played out.
Don't know if you guys know this yet. But they made a Sequel to this movie. In it Sarah actually got out. It's been awhile but I recall it not being so good.
This would have still worked without the monsters. The first half of this film was terrifying!
These movies with fast monsters just don't scare. the action ends too quickly...
If you guys have seen all the Kubrick films, then you need to talk about them. My favorite of his is "a clockwork orange", but "full metal jacket" and "eyes wide shut" come close.
You guys should watch "Death to Smoochy" it has Robin Williams and Edward Norton. It is hilarious.
Underrated movie. Great cast. Great performances. Incredibly silly world building.
Oh, wow. I didn't pick up on the affair the first time I saw this movie. But, looking at the wikipedia page, there was a big clue: Juno's lucky pendant said "Love Each Day", which was a saying of the husband.
Fear of Music is an awesome album.
Have you seen the movie Oculus,I have heard its really good and scary
'April Fool's Day' sounds like a hysterical movie.
Craig's haircut looks nice!
Have you guys seen "Seven Psychopaths"? I love Sam Rockwell, which is proven by the fact that I never forget his name. Thanks.
Something I wonder watching this review now (I saw the film a long time ago and loved it)... how do the creatures live for so long? great episode, but wouldn't Remain In Light have been more apropos?
Gah! Now I'm going to have to watch the Great Mouse Detective Episode.
