  • The rare and elusive Amber Dragon, remarkable for several reasons, such as the facts it doesn't eat meat, nor does it desire gold and jewels.

    and if you drill into a amber dragon, you can extract the dna of all ancient dragon lineages... and linnorms too! but parkgoers beware... these clones are far far more dangerous than all the t-rex's and raptors combined!

    Fun video as always, AJ! I personally like the bit where you run down their stats and combat abilities, but then go on to how you would use those and modify them within your own campaign. I think it adds a bit of personal flair, and provides ideas on how other DMs might modify monsters in a reasonable way. Well done!

    I can just see the potential of a forest battle between an Amber Dragon and a Green Dragon. The Amber Dragon with a cadre of Wild Elves, Treants and Forest Gnome Druids; and the Green Dragon with a coerced town militia, shambling mounds and a local tribe of Forest Trolls. The forest comes alive with thrashing foliage, summoned beasts and breath weapons. I wonder if there are any Amber Dragons on Arborea or the Beastlands?

    I'm imagining one of the more observant members of the team noticing that the same monkey or bird has been rolling them since they entered a forest. They get suspicious and attack the animal, like murder hobos are prone to do, and when the animal runs out of up it turns into a giant Amber dragon, haha

    At the start of video I was thinking of a ranger well dressed for the woods tracking stick in hand walking ahead of group humming the old songs of surviving in woods. The druid harvesting what ever food they can, speaking to the birds on where the ruins are. The cleric driving the cart trying to convert the warlock. The warlock trying to ignore the cleric and study his patron. The fighter, barbarian and bard asleep in the back of the cart after a all night drink fest. The wizard regretting his choices for foot ware and hitting the druid up for something for calluses. Lastly the rogue be eaten alive by bugs he swears are the size of dragons.

    • @christianb342
      @christianb342 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was just going to comment all about this!
      I work at a french restaurant and a dessert I put out is Creme Brulee! A sweet vanilla custard with a layer of carmelized sugar on top done for every order done with a hand torch. Tasty, tricky and hella dangerous! I hold it with a towel using the torch with my other hand rotating to get an even coloring and cover. I have had a few mishaps over the years. last sunday was the worst I had experienced. Waiter asked me something and I answered some questions while rolling the melted sugar around and did not see some of it roll off the side and essentially hardening instantly. I put the torch down and go to place it on its serving dish and the towel has fused to the cup causing half of the melted sugar to fumble across my index middle and ring finger. Dropped the cup on its side totally ruining it and worked to literally peel off this heinous kitchen napalm burning my other fingers while I peel it off like it's a stretchy sticker had blisters in less than a minute and kept it in a bucket of ice for the next 5 hours which was needed cause the air temperature hell my own body temperature hurt.
      Sap?
      That is a one hit wonder unless you are from the fire plane.
      Sap which is already super sticky at lemme pour this on my pancakes, Imagine just getting a gallon bucket of sap to the face. you need to take a hot shower to get all that off you! by the time you get to shower it's going to be in every nook and cranny.
      Now gettin hit in the face with boiling sap?
      Your done. Hot sugar rolls fast and it's going to find it's way into everything. Your body temp will cool it down and it will get sticky and thicker and itll keep all that heat in they hold heat for a real long time. and if you are covered head to toe you need to hope you dont survive that.
      I have a few pictures about 20 minutes after the incident if you'd like some context on recently bubbling sugar and direct contact with skin for a couple of seconds

      Have you read the Elric books? The neutral gods in those books are very hard to beseech for any worthwhile aid. Unless either law or chaos look like tipping the scales.
      The Lords of the Inquisition appear in the story "To Rescue Tanelorn," where it is said that they "are pledged neither to Law nor to Chaos but will sometimes help either side if the whim takes them." The Grey Lords take pride in their humility. These purposefully neutral gods are gods of the Balance and caretakers of Tanelorn, the city of the Balance. "

  • @zionthedragon8866
    @zionthedragon8866 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Weird that all the neutrals (NOT gems) are rocks or mineral named similar to gems, yet aren't? Also, I guess you can say it's the case with orange, yellow, steel, iron, mercury, and the others that seem like the belong to the 3 main pairs, but strangely DON'T. Strange, isn't it?

    • @VetusDea
      @VetusDea 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      IIRC, the Amber and its neutral companions are referred to as the Lesser Gem Dragons, so are still distantly associated with Sardior and his crew.
      However, the origin of the orange/yellow/purple/grey chromatics is still heavily debated (are they Tiamat's crew or the product of some foul third sibling of Tiamat and Bahamut, as other editions claim?) so it's harder to place them.

      @@VetusDea IIRC? What does that even mean?
      And no, I read nothing about them being called lesser gem dragons, but DID read stuff about the others saying that yellow was created by tiamat's sister, so thus being related to her, purple also being one of tiamat's side creations, and grey and orange also being hers. Same with steel, Iron, and mercury some how having ties to bahamut.
      So if anything, it's quite the opposite of what you just said based on what I have read.

    Blind sight seems fair if you are fighting anywhere around their home. You are fighting them in a garden they have been tending for many lifetimes by human standards. Like Montolio Debrouchee in Sojourn. You`d either be very brave or very dumb, to walk into his camp and pick a fight.

    Hmmm. I primarily play druids so this is really good information to have. Now when I'm playing druids or rangers of 5th level or higher I'll be making checks for excessive poisonous plants, especially healthy trees and gouges that allowed a lot of sap to be released, and excessive rot and fungus so my dm and party will know wether there might be a black, green, or amber dragon in the area (as in the dm might simply decide that there are one of these three lurking about that we should be wary of)

    • @muninrob
      @muninrob 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure to talk to the DM about it in private before you start making the checks a part of your habit - if he's adequate, he'll allow it. If he's OK, he'll actually look up the environmental effects of certain monsters. If he's one of the Great Ones, he's been dropping those hints every time the party passes through the area. (Why are the trees so twisted in "creepy ass forest"? because there's a green dragon lair there.)
