As a native English speaker, it sounded like “ the dream” and the nuance to me was exactly what Nick was explaining. We all know that dream where you are late for your flight etc. It’s a classic type of worry dream everyone is familiar with before travelling. So it is in the collective consciousness hence the use of “the”. And the example of “the talk” is exactly that too.
Yeah I'm a native English speaker too and I agree. I think Logan just forgot what he said and is trying to use some logic to figure out what he said haha

Interesting. I'm also a native English speaker (American) and the first time they played it, I was pretty much 100% positive he said "a dream the night before". Only when it was played at slow speed and I intentionally tried to hear it as "the" instead of "a", I could do so, but at normal speed and in context my brain naturally heard "a dream".

英語の授業で「英語は名刺を必ず１つか複数かを考えないとおかしい」とならったけど、本気の英会話速度だと早すぎて「a ][ed][ to]等聞こえないと思ったらアメリカ人も聞こえていない事実。
英語学習初心者です。
the と a の中間の発音でも日常生活には困らないと分かり気が楽になりました。
a theに最初聞こえて、低速聞いたらthe theに聞こえた。
have と dreamの間が少し詰まってる感じがしてtheに聞こえてくるようになってしまった
そういうリサーチがあるらしく、

等速で聞いたらaとtheかと思ったのに、低速だとtheとaに聞こえたw
最初がaで、次がtheに聞こえました。
というより、文脈で考えると、未出の事柄だから最初はaだと判断しました。
また次はthe day beforeというかたまりでしか聞いたことがなかった気がしたからです。
それよりも、ニックとお友達の英文法についての会話がとても役に立ちました。

I’m not a native speaker, but I know what Nick means. But from the very first one, I heard “a dream” and “the night before.” But only when it was really slow, I heard “the dream.”
But I think that’s what the brain does to us when it’s slowed. I have an experience recording my own reading and played it really slow, then I was hearing different things from what I actually said.
I mean, can you guys record your voice and play it really slow?

こういう動画は、面白いなーと思いました。
a day beforeとthe day beforeの違いは日本語でも同じかも。「その日の前に電話してね」と「一日前に電話してね」みたいな意味合いで、前者は具体的にどの日かは明示していないけど、「遊びに行く日」を参照していて、後者は単に一日と言う時間的なスパンを指して電話する時点について伝えているのではないかな。
google翻訳に聞かせたら、I'll have a dream the night before.でした。
新しいタイプの漫才。面白かった
口の形的に"have a"だと思いました。ローガン氏の口はハ"ヴァ"の破裂させる口の動きをしています。一方ニックさんがtheで発音している時は、破裂させた口の動きにはなっていません。ゆっくりの時にtheに聞こえるという点は、「ハ(ッ)ヴァ」と小さいツが存在しているのが、have theと分けて発音しているように捉えてしまっているのではないかと思いました。theと聞こえているところを、v aに捉えて聞いてみたら、普通の速さの時と同じに感じたからです。
また、ローガンさんの表情的にも、theの共通認識表現をするような強調した(you knowな)表情も個人的には感じない点も"have a"と言っているなと思った点です。

個人的な感覚レベルでしかないんだけども、私はthe,aと聞こえて、瞬時に状況を考察して、the,aでした。 a night before は明確な日付け情報がないため前夜と捉えたし、聞いたことがあるので。
the dreamでもおかしくないと思いました、その夢の具体的なイメージについて何故ならわかるよねって意識レベルで互いに共有できる可能性があるから。
多分ご本人が意図してないのももはや気付いてもいないレベルだろうけど。

何回聞いても、 I have the dream a night before に聞こえるんだよなぁ・・・ まぁどちらにせよ、この文脈ならこうでしょ、っていう予測ができるかできないか、よねきっと。
会話をしている時って、脳内では同時に会話では表現できないイメージの世界が広がっていて、その世界と実際に友人と会話をしている世界を瞬間的に行き来しているから、自分のイメージの世界だけでは完結しているから会話の時に瞬間的にtheを使うとかそう言う一瞬の判断が超slightly differentを産んでいるのだろうなぁ、などブツブツ思いながら拝見させていただきました。おもしろかったです。

先ず「発音という音から理解する生物学的な音声感知機能の限界」と、
「a と the が持つ一般言語表象から受け取る意味合いの理解という解釈の限界」の両方が成り立つ良い例。
人が人に伝えるときにはいくつも壁があって、それを超えて疎通しあってるんだから大したもんですよね。
「俺が言ったことは100％相手に伝わっている」なんて傲慢な考えはよそうよという原点に帰れる良い動画。
最初はaとandに聞こえました。「冠詞です」とあったのでaとtheだと思いました。でも「the dream（夢の内容は言わなくてもわかるでしょ）」も確かに、って思いました。

Distinction2000で音源を聞きながら音読の練習をしていると、ニックさんの声が一番はっきりと聞こえます。
aとtheで合ってましたが、スローだと声が低くなるからか濁って聞こえますね。

It sounds like Logan said “the” dream, but I think I would probably say “a” dream in that particular case. Which he said he did, but it somehow ended up sounding like “the”. Either way, any native probably wouldn’t care which word he said, it is still understandable what he meant.

Okay one more thing. With "The dream" versus "A dream". I think if every time you traveled you had a bad dream, or especially if you have the same dream the night before you would say "the dream the night before." If on the other hand you just notice that you seem to dream every night before you travel, you would probably just say "a dream the night before."

I believe the use of `the' that Nick is talking about is similar to Kansai ladies using "あれ" and/or "あの" in their conversations. Without mentioning specific 'things', they still understand each other thanks to the information shared prior to their conversation. Regarding the reply to "do you wanna go running in the morning sometime soon?", it makes sense that Nick said "a day before" as the date is not yet set. On the other hand, using "the" to "go running next Wednesday" seems more appropriate as the date that you are suggesting is very specific, 'next Wednesday'.
I just started out leaning Japanese and listen to Atsu, usually in the background as passive input when I am working on grammar, vocabulary, etc. As a Native American English speaker I think I can add a little bit to help further clarify the use of a/the. Especially in the example given about asking someone to go running with you.
In the example "Do you want to go running with me in the morning." This would imply that it is a day that is known from the previous context of the conversation. For instance if you were making plans to hang out on a Saturday, but you wanting to go running in the morning, you might say "Do you want to go running in the morning." "The" in this case is for a specific day.
If you were making more general future plans you might say "Is there a morning that you want to go running with me?" In this case the morning is unknown and you are going to decide on which is "the" morning that you will go running after they agree to go running some morning.
"Let me know a day before." Sounds like it is for ongoing plans. Say if you make plans to go running in the morning on Mondays each week, you would say "Let me know a day before, if something changes" or really I would probably say, "Gimme a heads-up, if you can't make it." etc
If on the other hand it was a general plan, like with "Is there a morning that you want to go running with me?" the response being something like "Sure, I can whenever. Just let me know the day before." We use "the day before" when you mean specifically one day before you plan to go running. If you said a day before, though most people would understand that you mean one day before, it could actually be taken as any unspecified day as long as it was before "the day" that you plan to run.
To further that idea, consider someone asking "Which day before we plan to run do you want me to let you know if my plans change?" If you answer "Oh, I don't know, just a day before." This could be one day before, or also any day that is before that day. Where the response "Just let me know the day before." Can only mean the (one) day before.
To me, "A night before" sound strange in the context given. It sounds like something out of a cozy mystery story. Some crime, a murder or whatever happened, but the detective doesn't know when it happened. He doesn't know "the" night it happened, just that it happened "a night before" some other clue was found. I can't think of exactly zero times I have used or would have used that specific phrase, it sounds constructed like text book English.
"A day", "a night", and "a morning" are all constructions I would use when I don't know which day, night or morning, specifically was being discussed. With "the" it always means one particular day, night, or morning.

He could have easily said "the dream the night before", and it would have been perfectly sensible as he continues with "where I'm like..." and expounds on the "the dream". Using "the" emphasizes the recurring/common nature of such dreams, whereas saying "a dream" is more neutral. I think the speaker was not reminded of what came before and after when he was directly asked about this sentence, hence concluding that he said "a", but I could be wrong. Personally, I definitely hear "the". It's true that had the sentence stopped after "the night before", the listener would be tempted to question "what dream?" but in this case, such confusion should not arise. They were both relating to each other's stress about missing the flight.
